More Government = More Potential for Government Abuse

Pastor Rick Warren and Richard Lane -- two of the  most influential evangelical Christians in the country -- are standing in solidarity with the Catholic Church's

strenuous opposition to the ObamaCare regs that would require Catholic institutions to make abortifacients available to their employees.

It's not surprising, but it's nonetheless news that should send chills down the spines of swing-state Democrats -- many of whom are trying to distance themselves from the regulations.

It's an issue that's not likely to go away soon.  The abortion lobby will NEVER permit the Obama administration to stand down on the issue nor would the President want to; abortion rights seem to be his one non-negotiable principle.

Certainly, Republicans should point to it as evidence of two points:

First, every vote for a Democrat -- even one who claims to be pro-life -- makes it more likely this kind of disaster will happen.  Look at ObamaCare supporters Bart Stupak and Kathy Dahlkamper (who now says she wouldn't have voted for ObamaCare had she known about this regulation).  Every Democrat one elects -- however (supposedly) moderate himself -- will empower the left wing of the party and the abortion rights groups that have it in a death grip (pun intended).

Second, the more power one gives to government, the more likely it is that the power can -- and will -- be abused.  The reason the Obama administration was in a position to threaten Catholic institutions with this regulation is because ObamaCare has given it almost complete control over healthcare in America.

If you don't like it, don't trust the Democrats now scurrying to distance themselves from unpopular measures during an election year.  When their seats are safe, they will return to the fold.  They are Democrats -- the party of bigger government.  And that's how they will vote when the chips are down.  (Just ask Stupak and Dahlkemper).
