The first is that "bipartisanship" requires more than simple politeness and civility to one's opponents. There needs to be action behind the rhetoric.

Seems obvious, doesn't it -- but it's not something that a man who's come of age only in left-wing hothouses, from The Harvard Law Review to Illinois state politics, would necessarily realize.
