The Moral Collapse of "Feminism"

Soledad O'Brien is asking McCain spokesman Nicole Wallace how Sarah Palin can consider herself a supporter of special needs children when she (allegedly) cut budget items related to them.  For O'Brien (who, incidentally has left young children at home in order to come to work), "support" is defined only as allocating taxpayer money to a person or cause.

Gloria Steinem proclaims Palin "the wrong woman."  Why?  She "shares nothing but a chromosome with Hillary Clinton."  Since when are some women of accomplishment "wrong" while others are right?  Keep this in mind: It all comes down to abortion rights for them.  And a woman who cradles her Down syndrome baby on stage -- showing that he's a blessing, not a "punishment" -- is an existential threat to the left-wing feminist movement.

With such overt hypocrisy, do any of the liberal feminists wonder why young woman are deserting their ranks in droves?

A warning:  The right may, today, be confident that America's regular people have concluded that Sarah Palin hit it out of the park last night.  But Governor Palin's adversaries in the media and Democrat ranks are working to re-write what she said, and how she said it -- to cast her as "mean" and "shrill" (thank you, Harry Reid) and "sarcastic."  Remember how, at the end of the Thomas hearings, a majority believed Justice Thomas, but a year after listening to the media, the majority believed Anita Hill?

This is not over.

And on that cheerful note, I'm off to DC to give a talk at the Best Friends Foundation annual summit and tape a TV show, so blogging will be light from me over the next couple days (I have trouble doing it remotely, for some reason).  I'll be checking in from time to time, to keep up with (what does Matt call it?) "the best team not on tv"?
