Senator Tillis Rips a Page from Speaker Pelosi's Book

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi ripped up a copy of Trump's State of the Union address on Tuesday night. And on Wednesday, following President Trump's acquittal by the Senate, GOP Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina decided to rip a page of his own right out of the Speaker's playbook.

"Two can play this game," Sen. Tillis addressed Speaker Pelosi in a tweet. The tweet includes a video of the senator tearing up the articles of impeachment that President Trump was acquitted of in the Senate earlier on Wednesday.

"Glad to finally put impeachment in the rearview mirror so we can get back to work for the people of North Carolina," Sen. Tillis added in his tweet. The North Carolina senator has previously said the people in his state wanted to see members of Congress working on the problems of American farmers, workers, and business owners, not wasted trying to impeach a president who faces re-election later in the year.

"The voters are going to have an opportunity to vote on the president in November," the Senator remarked in another tweet. "I think [the Democrats] should set their sights on that and we should get back to work."

In response to Trump's State of the Union address on Tuesday, Sen. Tillis praised the president's speech, stating that it "laid the foundation for answering one of our most important questions: are you better off now than you were four years ago? The answer: a resounding YES."
