Swalwell Takes Issue With Russia Meddling in Our Elections... But Not if Bernie Benefits

President Donald Trump and Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) have been briefed on the fact that Russia is attempting to meddle in the 2020 election and have selected the two men as their chosen candidates. Even though Democrats made an issue about making sure Russia and other foreign countries stay out of our election process, failed presidential candidate Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) made the case that Sanders can't be held accountable for the Kremlin's actions, but President Trump can.

"Do you have any question, any reason to question the reporting that you all were briefed on this as well?" CNN's Kate Bolduan asked.

"Again, I won't go into that as [the House Intelligence Committee] has, consistently for the past year, been looking at what Russia is trying to do in our elections, and we believe that the upcoming elections should be free from interference," Swalwell explained. "The voters voted for that in 2018 when they gave us the midterm election, that they wanted more oversight of the elections."

"Just to put a finer point to what's going on here with Bernie Sanders: You can't hold it against Bernie Sanders that this may be a preference of Russia," he said. "But you can hold it and ask questions about Donald Trump, if he again, is working as an agent of Russia, by seeking not only one: to tweet at Bernie Sanders and try to amplify his campaign to get him his general election opponent, but two: if he is, indeed, firing people on his staff who are telling others about Russia's preferences, again, that's Donald Trump trying to cover up things to help Russia."

Russia shouldn't be interfering in our elections. Neither should any other nation. Period. Every American should agree to that, regardless of the Kremlin's chosen candidate or set of candidates. It's rather contradictory to say Sanders should get a pass on this but Trump shouldn't. For more than two years we continually heard about how Trump colluded with Russia to win the 2016 election. And what happened? Special Counsel Robert Mueller discovered absolutely no collusion took place. Swalwell saying Trump "is working as an agent of Russia" is not only irresponsible, but it's the very reason the president will win re-election come November. The American people chose him as their president in 2016. People inside the Beltway couldn't accept that our nation chose him over crooked Hillary Clinton so they immediately said Trump won because of Russia.

Let's just call this what this is: Democrats' version of Russia 2.0. All we need is billions of wasted taxpayer funds and Democratic members of Congress telling us they have evidence that will prove Trump did something wrong.
