Mexican Flags Fly Around Trump’s Scottish Golf Resort

Scots living around Donald Trump’s golf resort are flying the Mexican flag in opposition to the billionaire’s policies. The residents say they want to “show solidarity” with Mexico in advance of Trump's visit to Scotland later this week.

Trump International Golf Links was opened in 2012 in the face of local opposition, which has left some bitterness towards the presidential hopeful. One of those flying the flag was Michael Forbes who refused to sell his land to the tycoon and has had a poor relationship with him ever since.

Another Mexican flag is being flown by David Milne, who lives in a former coastguard station overlooking the 18 hole course. Mr. Milne is also flying the Saltire, the official flag of Scotland.

Mr. Milne told BBC Scotland: "I am currently flying a Mexican flag along with my usual Saltire just for solidarity along with those worldwide who Trump has decried, insulted and threatened over the years, and will continue to decry, insult and threaten."

The pair say they have no plans to protest when Trump arrives to reopen the course after a refurbishment. Milne claimed Mr. Trump was not “worth the effort.” But he said the Mexican flag he is already flying would be visible from Trump's clubhouse.

"It's just enough to remind him that where he tried to drive us out he failed completely on that front."

The dispute began because locals felt the development was unsympathetic with the existing environment.
