AP reporter Andrew Taylor begins his story "Palin's pork requests confound reformer image" with the lede: "John McCain touts Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as a force in the his battle against earmarks and entrenched power brokers, but under her leadership the state this year asked for almost $300 per person in requests for pet projects from one of McCain's top adversaries: indicted Sen. Ted Stevens."
CBS News anchor Wyatt Andrews picked up on Taylor's talking points. "The facts are under Governor Palin, Alaska applied for $197 million earmarks for the 2009 fiscal year," he reported on the air today.

Shortly after Taylor's story come out, another AP piece came off the wire tying Palin to Stevens. AP writer Matt Apuzzo wrote:
WASHINGTON (AP) GOP vice presidential pick Sarah Palin
accepted at least $4,500 in campaign contributions in the same
fundraising scheme at the center of a public corruption scandal
that led to the indictment of Sen. Ted Stevens.
His story goes on to say that the contributions "were not illegal for her accept" but "show how Palin, a self-proclaimed champion for clean government, has been a part of an Alaskan political system that is now under a cloud of an ongoing FBI investigation."
Yes, Apuzzo. She's from Alaska. We just need more Sarah Palins up there and fewer Ted Stevens.
