Obama's Big, Historic, Movie Speech

Here we go. I was told this is going to be history in the making about a gazillion times over the past six months by the commentators so I'd better pay attention.

10:12 pm: He's thanking all the women in his life, daughters, wife, grandmother, etc. "Tonight is for her," he says of his grandmother. (Yes, the one he "threw under the bus."). His history-making, barrier-breaking, nomination-clinching line is "Tonight we mark the end of one historic journey with the beginning of another." I really hope he has a better one line coming.

10:15 pm: "Tonight I stand before you and say that I will be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States."

10:24 pm: Sorry got caught up in a phone call. Now Obama is bashing McCain. Same old. Bush third term attacks.

10:27pm: For what is supposed to be a ground-breaking speech Obama sure is repeating a lot of standard stump speech lines. He's talking about "change."

10:29pm: Like Clinton, he has a little story about some person who needs universal health care he met on the campaign trail.

10:33pm: He's promising not to use religion as a wedge. Or patriotism as a bludgeon. I can understand. The conversations about Rev. Wright and his flag pin didn't go too well during the primaries.

10:35: The craziness is being unleashed. He wants to be your Savior. Verbatim, emphasis mine. I'm somewhat terrified. "If we are willing to work for it, and fight for it, and believe in it, then I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth."

Help us if that's the big line going down in the history books. It sounds more like the beginning of the Apocalypse not a new administration.
