Incoming Trump Chief Of Staff: We're Not Going To Have A Muslim Registry, But I Can't Rule That Out

I think what incoming White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus said on Meet The Press yesterday isn’t necessarily controversial, but the Left is bound to get riled up over the notion of a Muslim registry. Jason touched upon this last week, but Priebus said that while no registry was being considered, he wouldn’t rule it out. He added that a registry should be established to prevent those who live in countries with terror ties from entering our borders until a vetting system is established. That’s Trump said on the campaign trail—and not necessarily extreme (via NBC News):

Look I'm not going to rule out anything," Priebus said. "We're not going to have a registry based on a religion. But what I think what we're trying to do is say that there are some people, certainly not all people... there are some people that are radicalized. And there are some people that have to be prevented from coming into this country. And Donald Trump's position, President Trump's position is consistent with bills in the House and the Senate that say the following: If you want to come from a place or an area around the world that harbors and trains terrorists, we have to temporarily suspend that operation until a better vetting system is put in place."

Priebus further maintained that tougher screening was needed before the incoming administration could consider immigration.

It’s the Syrian refugee crisis again. It also shouldn’t shock us if the Left reverts to the same mockery and scorn for the GOP over their remarks about national security with this issue; something that even liberal blogger Kevin Drum of Mother Jones noted made his side look out of touch. This isn’t a controversial policy. It’s in the same vein as the incoming Trump administration’s priority to deport criminal illegal aliens. Who’s against that? Who is against having vetting systems to weed out those with possible terror ties? Well, it’s Democrats. Rust Belt voters are likely to support this measure, as would many other Americans. After all, who is comfortable allowing folks from areas of the world that hate us, to enter without proper screening? Heaven forbid we talk about a policy remedy that protects national security. The horror!
