The Pro-life Democrat the Media is Ignoring

Meet Democratic representative Katrina Jackson, an outspoken pro-life advocate in the state of Louisiana. You may not have heard of her, for she’s no Wendy Davis.

Jackson, an African-American Democrat, isn’t afraid to call abortion what it is:

“The No. 1 genocide in the African-American community, and why we’re becoming a minority of minorities, is because most of our babies are dying in the womb from abortions."

But, she doesn’t just condemn abortion with her rhetoric. In May, Jackson helped pass HB 388, a bill requiring abortionists to obtain admitting privileges within 30 miles of their facility. The tally was impressive:

With no debate Wednesday, the House voted 88-5 to send House Bill 388 by state Rep. Katrina Jackson to the desk of Gov. Bobby Jindal. The Republican governor supports the proposal and intends to sign it into law.

Jackson, a Democrat from Monroe, described the measure as “one of the pieces of legislation that will be most impactful to this state regarding the pro-life movement.”

As Tom Blumer from Newsbusters points out, the media was all too eager to give coverage to Texas Senator Wendy Davis and her pink shoes when she filibustered against a late-term abortion ban, while Jackson and her pro-life efforts have been met with silence.

With successful legislation like this and Democratic politicians recognizing the right to life, Louisiana has earned its reputation as the most pro-life state in the nation.

The media can try and hide from headlines like these, but they can’t ignore the fact that there are strong pro-lifers in both political parties.
