Yippie Aye Yay: Meet Virginia’s First Rapping Candidate for Sheriff

“Yippie aye yay, yippie ay yo.” A catchy tune from the man hoping to be Fairfax, Virginia’s newest sheriff.

Chris DeCarlo, a 55-year-old husband and father of five, is an Independent candidate for sheriff in Fairfax County. He is also, apparently, a part-time rapper.

In his run for sheriff, DeCarlo recently released a music video called “Democracy Rides Again,” in which he raps about government corruption while riding a horse and winning shootouts with criminals. Here are a few of his killer lines:

“They’re shootin’ up the government every single day, and back alley deals where the dough gets the sway. I’m not gonna play the game the way they arranged it. But once I’m elected, I’ll damn sure change it.”

“We need a jolt to the system like a sheriff that raps. A free thinking guy that won’t fall in the traps. Now I have your attention, your trust is what I need. I’ll put the greater good first every time it’s out of lead.”

But, I know you want to watch the whole thing, so here it is:

The video, unsurprisingly, has almost 91,000 views on YouTube.

Despite the eccentricity of his methods, DeCarlo is a very serious candidate with some experience running political races.

From VeryBestofVirginia.com,

DeCarlo is no stranger to running for office or rapping.

In the past five years, he’s twice campaigned for Congress, the Virginia House of Delegates, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and has also attempted to land a seat on the Fairfax County School Board.

I have to hand it to DeCarlo for his passion about serving the people of Virginia and curbing political corruption, but is rapping about it really the best method? His good ideas are overshadowed by the “yippie aye yays,” awkward dance moves and talking horses.

Tuesday will determine if Virginia voters want him patrolling the streets, or remaining a viral sensation.

In the meantime, check out his website, where there are more rap videos.
