Here's a startling new Reuters/Ipsos poll that was released today: about one-fifth of registered Republicans want Donald Trump to drop out of the race, a figure which grows to 44 percent when all registered voters are included.
Nearly one-fifth of registered Republicans want Donald Trump to drop out of the race for the White House, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Wednesday, reflecting the turmoil his candidacy has sown within his party.
Some 19 percent think the New York real estate magnate should drop out, 70 percent think he should stay in and 10 percent say they "don't know," according to the Aug. 5-8 poll of 396 registered Republicans. The poll has a confidence interval of six percentage points.
Among all registered voters, some 44 percent want Trump to drop out. That is based on a survey of 1,162 registered voters, with a confidence interval of 3 percentage points. That is 9 points higher than his support for the presidency in the latest Reuters/Ipsos tracking poll registered on Monday.
Well, this is a huge issue. If one out of five Republicans aren't willing to support the candidate to the point where they say they wish he'd drop out, the party is in serious trouble come November. It's a given that most Democrats probably won't entertain voting for the GOP nominee, but when a not-small percentage of actual Republicans say this? They're doomed.
It looks as though Trump is going to have to tread very carefully in the coming weeks to attempt to rebuild his image if he even wants to entertain the thought of winning this election. Never mind targeting independents and moderates--he has to market himself properly to the party.
