Maine's 'Most Dangerous City' is Actually One of the Safest In the Country

Ah, context.

The small city of Bangor, ME (population 33,000) has the unenviable distinction of being the named the "most dangerous" in the entire state. But to put that "title" in perspective, the FBI has some good news for the residents of Bangor: on a national scale, the greater Bangor metropolitan area is actually one of the safest cities in the entire country.

From WJBQ:

It’s Maine’s Queen City of the East! A true gem in our woodland crown of amazingness, and according to various sources, supposedly Maine’s most dangerous city.

According to a new study by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bangor ranks among the nation’s safest cities.

Scratching your head yet?

We are too. If Maine’s most dangerous city is one of America’s safest, that says a LOT about this country of ours, and our home state of Maine.

It should be noted that Maine, despite having some of the loosest gun laws in the country, has one of the lowest violent crime rates as well.
