Take-Two Interactive, the parent company behind Rockstar, the creator of the Grand Theft Auto series, has issued subpoenas to both Microsoft and Discord following numerous leaks of gameplay for the upcoming release. The leaks have caused widespread criticism, and led to Take Two’s stock plummeting by nearly $3 billion.
Take-Two has lost around $2.8 billion in market value following the latest GTA 6 leaks.

The game was supposed to be revealed for the first time on August 27 in a collaboration with streaming-giant Netflix, but, earlier this week, an unidentified individual going by the alias “CyberLeek” published six videos depicting pre-release footage of the game. It is unknown how the individual acquired the copy at the time, and no official statements from Rockstar or Take-Two have been released.
Left with no other leads to stop the leaks as the release date approaches, company officials have resorted to federal court in hopes of identifying the culprit.
"The copyrighted material includes but is not limited to audio visual content, artwork, images, dialogue, or other creative elements," their court filing reads, according to IGN. "Take-Two, through its counsel of record, has submitted a sworn declaration confirming that the purpose for which the DMCA subpoena is sought is to obtain the identity of an alleged infringer or infringers, and that such information will only be used for the purpose of protecting Take-Two’s rights."
Grand Theft Auto VI is considered to be one of the most anticipated pieces of media of the decade. The previous installment of the series has sold more than 230 million copies worldwide and has generated nearly $10 billion in revenue over the course of its lifespan.
