OPINION

Liberals Were Wrong and We Were Right—Again

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Here’s the secret that liberals don’t want you to know: They hate Barack Obama. They hate him almost as much as the rest of us do.

Why?

Well, I supposed it’s like the case of the divorced spouse who sees too much of herself the kid, and too much of him too.

Obama’s a reflection of the faults, foibles and character of liberal thought today.

And that kind of facepalm with reality has a way of setting off the unbalanced, which of course is just another way of describing liberal-progressive wing of the country ----also now known as the Democrat Party.

The Unbalanced got a little jolt on the victory lap that Obama has been taking about the economic recovery, as he usually does in his January State of the Onion.

First the Bureau of Economic Analysis came out with a report that credited the GOP with creating 1.8 million jobs by halting unemployment benefits.

Specifically as reported on Forbes and elsewhere, the BEA writes:

We find that a 1% drop in benefit duration leads to a statistically significant increase of employment by 0.0161 log points. In levels, 1.8 million additional jobs were created in 2014 due to the benefit cut. Almost 1 million of these jobs were filled by workers from out of the labor force who would not have participated in the labor market had benefit extensions been reauthorized.

That’s a pretty strong endorsement of the settled science of unemployment benefits and its deleterious effects on employment. It has liberal media explaining that OF COURSE! the data is wrong; it doesn’t mean what you think it does.

And of course, had the data gone the other way we would had Nobel Prize winners with elbow patches that cost more than a Chevy Volt screaming “Settled Science!”

Then on cue the economy posted a pedestrian 2.6 percent growth rate for the 4th quarter, which means that the media is already dusting off the snow-warn excuse of winter weather to explain the disappointment that will be the 1st quarter.

Yes, a Northeast Blizzard Can Slow U.S. Economic Growth, explains the Wall Street Journal in an article that cites a Federal Reserve paper and ONE economist to support the idea that it can’t possibly be the fault of liberal economics that leads to such poor results.

The Settled Science theme was implied as it always is when liberal writer a headline starting with the word “Yes”.

Like this: Yes, Republicans Want Big Time Cuts in Social Security.

Or this: Yes, Republican Obamacare Plan Will Kill People.

Or this: Yes, global warming is real: 2014 was the world's hottest year on record.

More important however is the general judgment shared by the rest of the country that whatever improvement is happening is happening despite the Unbalanced holding sway in DC.

The one bright spot, and perhaps not bright enough to offset a country off balance are lower energy prices, which even liberals have to concede that if they had their way, oil prices would be very much higher. Lower energy prices are adding as much money to consumer wallets as a big pay increase or a tax cut—a tax cut we can permanent by following an energy policy that is directly opposite of that pursued by Obama.

Because we are right and he is wrong.

And liberals just can’t forgive him for proving them wrong on so much besides.
