The CDC's New 'Chestfeeding' Guidelines Are Dangerous And Unscientific

As Congress focuses its attention on the annual appropriations process, one federal agency stands out as warranting a funding cut: the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Why? Because it’s become clear over the years that the CDC isn’t as interested in “following the science” as it is in pushing an ideological agenda. First, it was the agency’s handling of COVID-19, where it first said no one needed a mask, then reversed itself and insisted that everyone needed a mask, and then let the teachers’ union rewrite school opening, masking, and vaccine requirements; now the CDC is spending taxpayer dollars to promote the dangerous fallacy that men can, with the help of the right drug, secrete a fluid that allows them to “nurse” a baby. The CDC calls it “chestfeeding.”

This isn’t just ridiculous, it’s dangerous. And it must be stopped, now.

On the CDC’s website, there’s a page entitled, “Health Equity Considerations,” which is a section of the CDC’s “Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies Toolkit.”  About two-thirds of the way down the page, we find this sentence: “Transgender and nonbinary gendered individuals may give birth and breastfeed or feed at the chest (chestfeed).”

The page contains a hyperlink for further information. The hyperlink directs the reader to “ABM Clinical Protocol #33: Lactation Care for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Plus Parents.” When you follow the link and scroll to page 5, you see a drug called “Domperidone.”

Originally created to treat nausea, the drug was found in some cases to stimulate lactation in women – and now is being used to stimulate production of a chest fluid in men.

The problem is, Domperidone has been banned for sale in the United States for almost two decades because it can cause heart arrythmia. Says the Food and Drug Administration: “Domperidone is not currently a legally marketed human drug and is not approved for sale in the U.S. On June 7, 2004, FDA issued a public warning that distributing any Domperidone-containing products is illegal.”

There is no telling what the side effects of this drug might be on the babies forced to suck a drug-induced secretion out of men’s bodies.

Elsewhere on the CDC’s website, there are all sorts of guidance for expectant mothers – don’t drink too much coffee, don’t drink alcohol, work with your doctor on whether you need nutritional supplements if you’re a vegan or a vegetarian, and watch out for certain medications, for example.

But, apparently, if you’re a biological man, to heck with watching out what you consume before allowing a baby to suck secretions out of your body. We want to affirm you no matter the consequences to the child.

At least one member of Congress is moving against the CDC: Senator Roger Marshall, M.D., Republican of Kansas, who spent a career as an obstetrician – and delivered more than 5,000 babies – before coming to Washington, is all over it: “It is evident the CDC has placed politics and its social agenda ahead of science and the health of newborns,” he said last week. “In my opinion, the CDC has lost all credibility and is in direct conflict with the FDA for marketing a non-FDA approved drug. A biological male filled with hormones and a concoction of other drugs that have not been studied that could harm a baby should NEVER be encouraged.”

Marshall is, of course, exactly right. The CDC – the agency that, when COVID-19 arrived, first told us no one needed a mask, then reversed itself and insisted everyone had to wear a mask – is, again, sacrificing science to a social agenda.

Congress must figure out which office of the CDC is promoting this absurd business about “chestfeeding.” That portion of the CDC should be shut down immediately, without another penny being appropriated for it.

Further, the House should hold hearings to investigate: How did the CDC develop this guidance? What studies were used? What studies does the CDC have that show there are no short-, mid-, or long-term effects on the babies who consume the drug-induced secretions from the bodies of biological males?

Finally, Congress should ask who has been fired for this? There must be a thorough housecleaning at CDC, and safeguards must be erected to prevent future politicizations at the CDC.

This is not scientific. This is not logical. This must be stopped.
