Last year, hospital and nursing home healthcare professionals and staff were lauded as heroes for treating COVID patients before we knew much about the virus. This year, there are some healthcare professionals who do not want the vaccine mandated. It seems that elected officials and the public are turning a deaf ear to these healthcare professionals and are jumping at the chance to mandate vaccines. (Witness Gavin Newsom in California, or Kate Brown in Oregon, or Joe Biden, who recently mused about whether or not he had the authority to order masks for school children.) Instead of mandating that all healthcare professionals or people who work in nursing homes must be vaccinated, why aren’t these elected officials listening to what these heroes are saying?

Since when does the president of the United States (or a state’s governor, for that matter) have the authority to encroach on our individual rights as an American citizen to require us, as a condition of being citizens in good standing, to violate our own beliefs to allow doctors to stick needles in our arms to inject a drug we don’t want to have injected into our bodies?

In America, we believe in individual liberty. In fact, we believe liberty is a right granted to us by our Creator, and we believe that right is unalienable – that is, it cannot be taken away. Further, we believe the purpose of government is to secure that right (along with the rights to life and the pursuit of happiness). It says so right in our founding document, the Declaration of Independence, which was originally offered as an explanation to the world for what our forbears were doing when they decided to break away from England, and which has bound every succeeding generation since.

So let’s be clear about this: According to our founding document, the authority of the president of the United States – the senior-most elected official in the federal government – is nevertheless subservient to the rights granted us by our Creator, rights that we believe cannot be taken away.

Yet President Biden recently said that while he did not think he had the authority to order a nationwide mask mandate for school children– “I don’t believe I do [have that power], thus far. We’re checking,” he said – he nevertheless had the gall to say out loud that his lawyers were trying to confirm that.

Given that it was Joe Biden making the statement, of course, it’s actually far more likely that his lawyers weren’t looking to confirm that he does not have that authority; they were looking to discover (read: create) novel interpretations of law that would allow them to assert for Biden a heretofore-undiscovered authority to do exactly that.

Despite the wishes of the radical left and its allies in the Biden administration, the federal government does not and should not have the authority to impose mask or vaccine mandates on individual American citizens who do not work for the federal government. And under no circumstances should the federal government have the authority to require private businesses to impose mask or vaccine mandates on either their employees or their customers.

So many of our fellow citizens agree with this common-sense proposition that we’re seeing a level of activity among the grassroots that we haven’t seen since the original Tea Party protests of 2009-10. All over the country, grassroots leaders and activists are rousing themselves once more, getting out the poster board, and the magic markers, and the bull horns, and updating their email and phone lists, to once again take action to make their voices heard and their beliefs known.

On Saturday, August 28, all over the country, Tea Party Patriots Action will be working with local grassroots leaders and activists to host events of all sizes. The message to fellow citizens, elected officials, and private businesses is “No.” There is no legitimate authority that exists to force someone to inject something into his or her body, or to force kids to breathe through dirty masks all day, or to close your small business down or be labeled “nonessential,” and we are saying “No” to all COVID-related authoritarianism. We are saying “Yes” to freedom.

With more than 60 events across the country already planned, and the number growing daily, the likelihood is good that there’s an event near you. To learn more, you can simply visit www.StopMedicalMandates.org to find out where is the nearest anti-mandate event. And if there’s not an event near enough to you to allow you to attend conveniently, you can download a How-To guide there that will explain to you how you can easily and simply host your own event.

First we were told it would be 15 days to “slow the spread.” Then we were told it would be another 30 days to “flatten the curve.” That was more than 500 days ago, and those engaging in the COVID fear spectacle show no signs of letting up. Push back. Let them know you’re aware of your rights, and you’re willing to stand up for them. Join us. Grab some friends, and come out on Saturday. You’ll be glad you did.
