Democrats Giveth, Democrats Taketh Away

It’s not normal for a presidential field to grow over time, especially as filing deadlines have passed and voting is only a few months away. Yet that’s where Democrats find themselves – mired with a weak field featuring a frontrunner who doesn’t seem to know where he is half the time. This reality makes it appealing for bench-sitters who see an opening to try their luck because why not? But the real problem Democrats face isn’t their weak roster, it’s the issues their candidates have chosen to run on.

The only difference between the 87 candidates running for the nomination is the degree to which they promise to play Santa Claus for the American people. The variance between their views is as wide as the variety of music played at Bob’s Country Bunker in The Blues Brothers, “We got both kinds, we got country and western.”

Some candidates are embracing full-blown socialism, while others are only embracing socialism – something for everyone!

That’s really what Democrats are trying to sell: a government that provides everything, except for the things they want to take away.

“Free” college and student loan “forgiveness” are now standard fare on the left. Abortion on demand and taxpayer funded. Health insurance for everyone, public housing, subsidized everything, all billed as a “human right.”

But as the saying goes, “A government big enough to give you everything you want, is a government big enough to take away everything that you have.”

If “rights” are granted by government, there is no logical reason government can’t take away your rights. After all, they’re theirs to do with what they please. And Democrats not only want to do just that, they want to take away a lot more.

Like your current health insurance? Tough. For the “collective good,” it has to go. Barack Obama lied about 5 million Americans being able to keep their plan and their doctors, so at least they’re being honest about it this time.

Like your car? Unless you plug it in, it has to go. Like the knowledge that when you turn on a light switch the light will come on? That’ll change to be dependent upon wind blowing and sun shining. Like being able to keep more of what you earn after the tax cuts in 2017? Forget it. All this “free” stuff has to be paid for somehow.

Democrats are the guy who steals your wallet and thinks he’s a hero for buying you lunch after.

And if you like being able to defend yourself and your family, forget about it. The Second Amendment will not be repealed, but it will be circumvented to the point that it won’t matter anymore. Gun ownership and ammunition will be taxed to the point that only the wealthy will be able to afford it. Not that it will matter much, manufacturers will be sued out of existence as Democrats will move to make them responsible for the illegal use of a legal product. When that happens, there won’t be anything stopping victims of drunk drivers from suing auto companies, etc. You don’t get to just knock over one domino.

There isn’t a dime’s worth of difference between any of them, only shades of gray…and the trillions of dollars in debt to pay for it all.

Democrats are offering all sorts of “goodies,” all it’ll cost you is everything. And liberty ceded to government is rarely reclaimed, and never done so easily.

The saddest part of all this isn’t what Democrats are promising, it’s that there are so many of our fellow Americans who are open to the idea, and eagerly so. Because the one thing Democrats have taken from people, the most damaging thing, is personal responsibility.

There are tens of millions of Americans who allow the government to feed their kids, pay for their cell phones, their Internet, their housing, their lives. And there are millions more who think that’s a good idea, that that’s how things should be.

So it doesn’t matter how similar the Democratic field is, how many billionaires enter the race, or how confused Joe Biden gets in debates or on the stump. What matters, whoever ends up winning their nomination, is that they lose. If they don’t, we all do.
