Matching Media Memorandum – VARIOUS OUTLETS

  • The intolerance seen in political fashion.

When the field director of ICE, Greg Bovino, was recently photographed wearing a long uniform overcoat when out in the field, many on social media likened it to an oppressive SS decision. This is to be expected from the shotglass-shallow thinkers online, but for the press to undertake this line of thinking is another matter.

At The New York Times, Vanessa Friedman, the site’s political image correspondent (seriously with this?!) took on Bovino’s fashion choice and weighed in on what it all means:

Known as a greatcoat, the long, double-breasted Army-green coat with wide lapels, big metallic buttons, epaulets and insignia on the arms stands out amid the sea of bomber jackets and tactical vests worn by the ICE agents around Mr. Bovino. It is impossible to ignore. It is closely associated with the German military under Hitler. And thus it did not take long for Mr. Bovino’s coat to become, for many viewers, a sign not just of militarization but also of tyranny.

Sure, Vanessa. She takes this tack while having to admit that this type of covering was worn by numerous officers, from various nations, across multiple armed conflicts, but ALSO it was worn by the Nazis, so it perfectly fits the narrative!

Joining in the hysterics was New York Magazine, sounding like hyperactive teens when mewling over the “links drawn between ICE and Nazis.” And Politico turned to a fashion expert who was more modulated, acknowledging that multiple militaries had these coats in use, but THAT became the problem. ICE was likening itself to a military force, and its image would lead to conflict. There you go — the violence seen in the streets of Minneapolis is due to Bovino wearing a trench coat in snowy conditions.

Pre-Written Field Reports – CBS NEWS

  • It’s like Maggie does not read the news before each of her programs.

It was time for another round of Margaret Brennan being taken to school by a Republican who delivers the facts. On Face the Nation, Steve Scalise was brought on to discuss the Minneapolis conflict, and Brennan began with the canard that ICE has been detaining 5-year-olds. Once disabused of that, she turned to the latest media tactic, which is supposedly supporting Second Amendment rights, and trying to throw that in the face of politicians.

Scalise, a victim of gun violence (reminder, Maggie), informed her that the right to carry does not grant you permission to commit a crime, nor to assault law enforcement.

DNC PR Firm – NBC NEWS

  • Does Kristen pay royalties to the National Committee for these talking points?

Kristin Welker, on Meet the Press, spoke with Todd Blanche about the policies used in Minnesota, and if it had been Adam Schiff or Chris Murphy asking the questions, we doubt there would have been much of a difference:

KRISTEN WELKER: But let me ask, just big picture, Mr. Blanche, is the death of U.S. citizens a price the Trump administration is willing to pay to carry out its immigration policies?

TODD BLANCHE: What does that have to do with whether it was a U.S. citizen or not? Any death is wrong.

WELKER: Well, two of the deaths were U.S. citizens --

BLANCHE: Any death should not happen in law enforcement.

WELKER: But two of the people killed were U.S. citizens. President Trump said his goal was to deport the “worst of the worst” people. My question for you is, is this part of the collateral damage, something that the administration is willing to accept as a part of its crackdown on people who are here illegally?

BLANCHE: It shouldn’t be. It should not be. And you don’t see it anywhere in this country. I’m very confused about why the conversation’s about what you’re talking about instead of focusing on what really matters, which is why, in one city, in one place, do we have these problems. We deport ten times the number of illegal aliens out of Texas than we do out of Minneapolis. Why do we hear nothing out of Texas about any of the same problems that we have in Minneapolis? I’ll tell you why. Because in Texas we have the cooperation and support of local law enforcement so that we can do these operations safely, keeping U.S. citizens and others protected and safe.

Both Kinds of Standards – SLATE

  • Make these comments about a liberal figure and the feminist meltdowns would be legion.

What is it about leftist journos who feel it is completely reasonable to trash conservative women in a fashion that they have spent generations bleating is intolerant sexism?! Heather Schwedel (who previously made hateful reports on the appearance of Casey DeSantis) comes out with a completely hate-filled rant about Second Lady Usha Vance becoming pregnant, and this wizard of a journalist does not even grasp her own contradictions.

The premise of her piece is that there had been rumors of an affair between JD Vance and Erika Kirk, a dose of gossip she describes as, “always more darkly entertaining than plausible.” But then Schwedel uses this sophomoric insult as justification. First, she states that the desperate wishcasting on social media a few months ago that the Second Couple may get divorced, she says it was not a surprise. But now a new wrinkle has developed: Supposedly, the Vances have decided to have another child to combat those rumors that Schwedel initially did not give credence to in the first place.

So…it was not believable, and now they are faking a strong family unit because that rumor was factual, and they need to keep up appearances. Just some galaxy-brain fantasy weaving going on here.

Dos Equis-pert Opinion – NEW YORK POST

  • So, snowshoes are the more practical option?

With the massive winter storm affecting much of the country, hype and hysteria must take place in the press. The New York Post delivers a dire warning for readers that something they are predisposed to do can lead to severe adverse results. There is a deep risk associated with donning a dangerous snow accessory.

They deliver the inherent danger of…snow boots.

We could not even delve into the risks associated with this footwear, coming from the vaunted expert opinion of a podiatrist.
