Low Octane Gas Lighting – THE MIAMI HERALD
Another case of weather killing the planet.
In the Tropics, hurricane season has officially begun. One of the first systems developed in the Gulf of Mexico, and currently it is moving across the state of Florida. This weather system is delivering copious amounts of rain. Currently, we in the southern portion of the peninsula are experiencing the third day of heavy rains.
All of this is very obvious and expected, something Floridians are familiar with as a common occurrence, but I feel the need to go through the basics for the benefit of Florida Democrats and the newspaper The Miami Herald. These folks are looking at this not-at-all strange meteorological reality and wanting to desperately lay the blame for it on climate change, with a sprinkling of Governor Ron DeSantis being responsible for the weather due to his policies.

News Avoidance Syndrome – CNN
Recommended
To be clear, we are not concerned what this represents for the network and how it reflects on journalistic integrity, is that right?
We all remember how it was covered when Fox News and Newsmax were served with defamation lawsuits, correct? After all, we were all told how this was a sign of the lax standards at those outlets and stood as proof that the networks present false narratives, is that not right?
We ask these things because there is a defamation lawsuit brought against CNN, and the network lost the appeal to have the case dismissed so it will move forward through the courts. Surprisingly, we are not seeing much in the way of tsk-tsk-style of reports about what this represents for the network.

Prose & Contradiction – THE ATLANTIC
Is it obliviousness? Deflection? Desperation? All three?
At The Atlantic, Brian Klaas brings up some things Donald Trump recently said that should have everyone concerned. It seems that he will say things that do not make complete sense, and this reality of a prospective leader who says curious comments is something of a concern for Klaas. He points at recent statements Trump made about sharks off the state of Florida, and some concern with boats, large batteries, and the like. He asks readers to consider what would happen if Joe Biden were to say anything so daft.
Well, we really do not need to consider those reactions – we saw them, very recently, when Biden was wandering well off-topic and made mention of an uncle whose plane had crashed and he was then eaten by cannibals. Klaas has us imagining what it would be like if Biden said “ludicrous” things on the regular, except we do not need to imagine – we can just turn on C-SPAN any given day.
Trump’s bizarre rant about sharks is another example of a ludicrous statement that some think can be ignored because they’re so routine, @brianklaas writes. But Trump may soon be president. Imagine the response if Joe Biden had made the same remarks. https://t.co/s5LR18MoW0

DNC PR Firm – WASHINGTON POST
The term “In-Kind Donation” comes to mind, for some reason.
Heather Long, writing at WaPo, continues in the tradition of reporters trying to recast inflation as not so bad because it was recently worse. According to Long, it has “cooled” to “just” 3.3% last month.
JUST IN: Good news on inflation. It cooled to 3.3% (y/y) in May. The gas price decline really helped. May also saw the lowest monthly inflation in more than a year (see chart)

“Core inflation” decline to 3.4% (y/y) in May —> the lowest since April 2021.

Of course — as needs to be noted all the time — this is cumulative, so that is over three percent higher for already inflated prices. This is like looking at firefighters reaching a point where a blaze is coming under control so we will pretend that the house has not been mostly burned down.
Yet, according to your own paper... https://t.co/RMYM06pPUF pic.twitter.com/izB8kBrwFl

Artisanally-Crafted Narratives – THE NEW YORK TIMES
They really wish he said those things they hate him for...not saying…
Earlier this week, we covered the alleged scandal of SCOTUS Justice Samuel Alito being caught on audio tape saying things. His supposed controversial comments were either rather mundane or completely fabricated by the critics. Now, we have The Times weighing in and it joins in with the creative interpretations, but the outlet goes so far to provide a quote from the man with something he never uttered. That’s…convenient for the ranting piece.
The Times has a problem with "godliness"; I have one with "news analysis." https://t.co/WCXs8JNMCo

Gilded Reframe – THE NEW YORK TIMES
Ibram X. Kendi has been held in high regard as an authority on race relations for years despite the fact he displays rather shallow thinking on the subject. In a recent profile, he was described as going through his own reckoning, and the details in the piece raise more questions that delivers reason to listen to him. Then came the correction.
The Times had to adjust details, such as the fact that his documentary was not actually nominated for an Academy Award, and his Anti Racism Center saw a loss in donations that was significantly lower than even the low figure originally reported.
The @NYTimes tried to run a puff piece on Ibram X. Kendi, despite details showing him with diminshed import.

First Amendment Strike Force – CNN
We are watching Ollie slowly lose his grip on sanity.
Look, we get it – politics are divisive. But it gets revealing when we see those who claim to trend toward being objective revealing how unspooled they are becoming in real time. Oliver Darcy has a history of lobbying to have certain voices silenced. This is already an odd position for anyone in journalism, but for the self-styled media analyst, you would expect a glimmer of realization how self-defeating this can be.
Oliver possesses no such insight. The man who previously worked to get InfoWars de-platformed, and has pushed cable companies to drop Fox News, now has his sights set on Tucker Carlson – even after Carlson has been removed from the reviled network. Tucker is planning a live tour, and is working with vendors and venues for his appearances. This has set off Ollie, and in his newsletter, he shows just how untethered he is becoming.
In discussing Tucker and his proposed right-wing extremist guests, Darcy describes the tour and Tucker with “dangerous and hateful rhetoric; fellow conspiracy theorists; the fringes of American politics; promoted dangerous disinformation; damaging conspiracy theories; lied about the Covid-19 vaccines; sinister forces; corrosive lies; favored by White supremacists' repugnant promotion of such lies,” and more.
Then, Oliver showed his tendencies by reaching out to several businesses, attempting to badger them about the partnerships with Carlson in his impotent effort to have Tucker canceled:
Asked for comment this week, [were] representatives for the Live Nation subsidiary chose not to respond. We also posed questions to the venues hosting Carlson, which include the Honda Center, T-Mobile Center, Delta Center, Dickies Arena, Intrust Bank Arena, and others.
For all of his hectoring, the number of companies responding to his efforts has amounted to exactly – zero.
