The Democrats Impeachment Conundrum

It never ceases to amaze me how bad Congressional Democrats are at politics and policy.

After months of internal debates about impeaching President Trump, they finally pulled the trigger. Now, we have wall-to-wall, 24/7 impeachment-palooza being cheered on by the left-wing media.

But make no mistake, this decision to impeach had nothing to do with “high crimes and misdemeanors”, and everything to do with attempting to position themselves better for the 2020 election.

Once again, though, they have overreached and miscalculated.

Pundits, across the political spectrum, have warned Speaker Pelosi that, similar to the 1998 impeachment of President Clinton, it would backfire and cost them seats in the next election. Polling by the Marquette University Law School in Wisconsin validates that.

However, Pelosi ultimately refused to heed the warning, went along with the growing chorus of her leftist members and proceeded with the charade nonetheless. Now, they are past the point of no return.

Speaker Pelosi is a master politician and vote counter. She thinks this time is different. And, it is, but for completely different reasons.

The 1998 impeachment backfired against Speaker Newt Gingrich because, no matter what one thought of the validity of the Clinton impeachment charges, he was generally “likable”, whether you liked his politics or not. Voters were willing to look past the charges and punish those who would impeach a “likable” person.

Pelosi’s political calculation this time is largely based on President Trump not being “likable”. She believes if Congressional Democrats put his “unlikability” on center stage, then, it will resonate with voters, especially in swing states.

Sorry, Madame Speaker. You are as wrong as the pollsters who predicted a Hillary Clinton landslide for dismissing the “silent majority”.

What Pelosi, Congressional Democrats, and the liberal media fail to realize is that we voted for this President because we knew we weren’t voting for someone we wanted to “like”.

We voted for someone who doesn’t care about being liked. We voted for someone to shake up the swamp in Washington, D.C. We voted for someone that would tear down the corruption and rock the political establishment to its core.

And let’s be honest, that’s what he is doing.

Despite what Democrats and the “lamestream media” want Americans to believe, the numbers don’t lie. President Trump’s policies have added more than 6.9 million jobs since he was elected. Wages for American workers have continued rising, and the national unemployment rate remains at or below 4 percent for the 20th consecutive month.

As a businessman, the President has rolled back unnecessary job-killing regulations at a historic pace— 8 and a half regulations for every new rule—slashing nearly $50 billion in regulatory costs and saving taxpayers $220 billion once actions are implemented.

Also, while Democrats continue wasting America’s time on impeachment, President Trump is propelling middle-class families forward with higher median income levels, and standing up to bad actors like China and their unfair trade practices.

Beyond our booming economy, President Trump and his administration have taken unprecedented steps to secure our nation by closing asylum loopholes, beginning the building of a wall, and successfully forging an agreement with Mexico to aid the crisis at the border.

Moreover, this President has allocated almost $1.5 trillion dollars to rebuild and grow our military, and he has secured billions in funding for much-needed transparency and accountability for our veterans.

You don’t get these results by being the “nice guy”. You get these results by taking on the status quo head-on, and not caring what your detractors say. That’s how you get a level of prosperity not seen in decades. That’s how you “Make America Great Again”.

Do you think “nice guy” President Mitt Romney would have achieved even a tenth of these successes? Of course not.

Wake up, Democrats. All you are doing is reinforcing the reasons why he was elected in the first place. And for that, I thank you.
