'Courageous' has solid sixth weekend
ALBANY, Ga. (BP) -- The church-made film "Courageous" dropped out of the 10 again but nonetheless still had a strong weekend, losing only 16.2 percent and inching close to the $30 million mark in total gross.

Courageous' $1.5 million placed it at No. 12 in total gross for its sixth weekend, but its impressive 16.2 percent loss from its previous weekend was better than all but one Top 10 holdover. By comparison, the eight holdover movies in the Top 10 lost an average of 30 percent.

It is the second time Courageous has dropped out of the Top 10. It fell out of it after its fourth weekend before climbing back into it at No. 10 during its fifth weekend.

Courageous has made a total of $29,951,296 and appears to be closing in on the $33.4 million that Fireproof made in 2008. Both films were made by Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Ga.

Courageous opened in about 150 new theaters over the weekend, helping boost its totals.

The movie follows the story of five men -- four of them police officers -- as they seek to become better fathers.

It showed in 1,161 theaters on opening weekend and is still playing in 1,138.
