Perhaps some of you remember this song by the fun rock band WAR. I certainly do, and, yes, I am dating myself. This song title came to mind when considering that the US Senate, namely the Judiciary Committee, wants to hold a hearing about ethics this week. If there is one thing I despise it is hypocrisy, and having Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin wanting an ethics hearing targeting Justice Clarence Thomas is rather rich. The progressive socialist leftists have absolutely had it out for Justice Thomas from the very announcement of his nomination. We all remember the confirmation hearing. The Judiciary Committee chairman at that time was Senator Joe Biden.
It appears that the left is upset that Justice Thomas has a friend. Yes, his friend is a Dallas-based billionaire real estate developer named Harlan Crow. The left is upset that Justice Thomas' friend takes him on trips, vacations, on his yacht or plane. It seems that the left does not like it when conservatives have friends . . . Why? In full disclosure, my wife Angela and I were invited to the private home of Mr. and Mrs. Crow a few years back, and Justice Thomas and his wife were in attendance. It was a very nice dinner and conversation. I guess friends cannot have friends over for dinner and must declare that? Perhaps the leftists consider dinner a gift? So, should the American people know every time that a member of the US House or Senate is invited to a dinner by a special interest lobbyist, who may be interested in issues and legislation appearing before their committee, or the body politic as a whole?
Now, I must ask, why have we not had a hearing on the SCOTUS Dobbs case leak? I would think that Dick Durbin would be interested in that violation of the ethics of the Supreme Court, and betrayal of the trust of the American people. Nah, I guess that was perfectly fine since the leak benefitted the leftists who desire to murder unborn babies on demand right up until birth. Or why not have a hearing on leftists who were in violation of US Statute by issuing threats and protesting outside the homes of conservative justices, including an assassination attempt? Nah, nothing wrong, or unethical there.
Why not hold a hearing, or even censure, the current Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer, who issued threats against Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, "I want to tell you, Gorsuch; I want to tell you, Kavanaugh: You have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price. You won't know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions." Imagine a Republican Senator saying those very same words before a raving mob from the steps of the Supreme Court aimed at Justices, Kagan, Sotomayor, or Ketanji Brown-Jackson. Yes, the hypocrisy is rich.
Nah, the Senate Democrats and the leftists want a hearing about Justice Clarence Thomas having a friend.
Speaking of unethical friends, what about the once-upon-a-time Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman, Joe Biden? It appears that he has some very interesting friends, namely the Communist Chinese. The now-released Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) from the US Treasury Department, which were once restricted, tell a very interesting story about large financial gifts to the Biden family. Will there be a hearing by Democrats on that issue in the US Senate? Nope, leftists are allowed to have whomever they want as friends, such as the Clinton's ties with some very interesting characters -- including Russia -- through their Global Initiative.
Yes, the hypocrisy of the Democrat Party is once again on full display, and would be laughable, if not so disconcerting. There are rules for everyone else, but there are no rules for Democrats, progressive socialists, Marxists, statists, or leftists. In any other universe, the consistent harassment of a Black Supreme Court Justice would be deemed racist, but not if you are a conservative Black Supreme Court Justice. Justice Thomas and Harlan Crow, along with their wives, are friends. During the SCOTUS recess, they enjoy each other's company and travel. The ethics rules of the US Supreme Court have not been violated by Justice Thomas, and never have with his lifelong friend. Chief Justice John Roberts has not seen any ethics violation and there have been no specific court case decisions that personally benefited Mr. Harlan Crow.
The same cannot be said of Joe Biden who is completely compromised due to financial dealings not just with China, but also Ukraine.
Why can't Justice Clarence Thomas and Harlan Crow be friends? Because the tyrannical totalitarian left believes they get to decide, just as they get to decide what type of car we drive, oven we have, food we eat, our mortgage fees, and whether we can defend ourselves.
