Lots Of Children, But No Fathers Or Mothers

France plans to ban the words “mother” and “father” in legal language concerning marriage in that country.

The goal is to further communicate the message that “marriage is a union of two people, of different or the same gender.” But the result is certain to be more children without mothers or without fathers in the home.

And here’s the question—how long will it be before someone attempts to duplicate this proposed ban in America

It is, after all, exactly where many are headed in seeking to live their lives their own way, without any interference from church or state, from family members or neighbors, from friends or co-workers. And while they say they want others to live their lives this way as well, what they really mean is that they want others to live as directed—as columnist George Will recently made clear when he highlighted how this type of “tolerance” leads to tyranny.

For those who say, “Nope—that’ll never happen here,” just think of how many things that would “never happen here” have happened here in the last few years.

For example, your grandparents probably thought a parade celebrating homosexual behavior, with service men and women in uniform participating, never would have happened here. But it did happen in San Diego.

Or perhaps you thought that private psychologists offering strictly voluntary therapy to those who desire to overcome same-sex attraction would not be banned. Yet they have been banned in California, on grounds that prescribing therapy for such an attraction is “junk science.”

Many people never believed tax dollars would be used to enact campus speech codes, which outlaw scriptural teaching on both topics. But it has been done. And if you think preventing it was hard, try reversing it.

And most obviously, who would have ever imagined forcing Christian photographers and T-shirt printers to use their artistic skills to promote messages contrary to their faith? Who would have ever thought that our government would utterly ignore and violate the religious freedom guarantees of the U.S. Constitution and compel faith-based organizations, such as Bible publishers and religious universities, to pay for abortion drug coverage?

These things cast the news coming out of France in a whole new light and leave us wondering whether the philosophy underlying the current attacks on the family there might add to the attacks already happening on our shores, changing our culture as did the philosophy of the French Revolution so many centuries ago?

This is not that far-fetched when you consider that French legislators are simply taking the next logical step in making over language to conform to a new era they wish to usher in.

If these legislators get their way, mothers and fathers will no longer be a legal part of reality in France.
