Pro-Life Movement Still Has A Long Way To Go Before Completely Defunding Planned Parenthood

Reagan reported Monday that Planned Parenthood opted out of Title X federal funding, because if they continued to accept taxpayer dollars from this fund then they would have to stop referring women for abortions. Despite claiming abortion isn't their main focus, the organization was willing to forgo $60 million so they could continue business as usual. Perhaps another reason for their decision is that this money is merely a drop in the bucket compared to where they actually get most of their cash.

As stated by the Heritage Foundation, in 2018 Government Accountability Office noted that "[o]ver a three-year period, Planned Parenthood and its affiliates spent $288 million in federal funds. They also received $1.2 billion in funding from Medicaid, which combines federal and state funds." This is more than $1.5 billion worth of federally provided tax money.

Likewise, much of this money was used to steer young women away from pro-life measures and towards killing their babies. According to Heritage's Monica Burke, "Planned Parenthood performed 83 abortions for every one adoption referral."

LiveAction's founder and president Lila Rose sent a statement to Townhall today, saying this is all the more reason the pro-life movement must keep going to ensure that Planned Parenthood receives zero dollars from taxpayers so long as they continue to abortion services.

"Most of Planned Parenthood’s federal funding comes in the form of Medicaid reimbursements rather than through Title X. Planned Parenthood will still continue to receive taxpayer-funded reimbursements all while running a business that takes the lives of 900 preborn children every day, has been accused of Medicaid fraud, discriminating against pregnant employees, aiding sexual abusers, giving women medical misinformation, demonstrating a willingness to aid sex traffickers, demonstrating a willingness to commit sex-selective abortions, and more," Rose said in a press release. "It’s time we fully remove our tax dollars from this abortion giant and redirect it towards entities that truly care for women and children."

Rose also remarked, "What a week for Planned Parenthood. First, they were ordered to pay $3M in damages to a whistleblower that exposed their illegal and dangerous conduct and now they have chosen to leave behind $60 million a year rather than financially separate its abortion business. "

As reported yesterday, Mayra Rodriguez was awarded $3 million by a jury after being wrongfully fired by Planned Parenthood after working there for more than 17 years. All Rodriguez did was report the truth about the organization's practices and exposed the harm Planned Parenthood does towards women.

"Planned Parenthood continues to prioritize profit off of the killing of preborn children rather than listen to the American people and our government and disentangle taxpayer funds from this grave human rights abuse," Rose said. "The Protect Life Rule lines up with polling that shows a majority of Americans oppose any taxpayer funding of abortion."

"Let’s not stop here," Rose added in her press release.
