Obama Still Denies Holder Authorized Operation Fast and Furious

Today during a press conference, President Obama was asked about Operation Fast and Furious, the weapons trafficking program authorized by officials working in his Justice Department. This is what he had to say:

"As you know my Attorney General has made clear he certainly would not have ordered gun running to be able to pass through into Mexico."

"The investigation is still pending and I'm not going to comment on a pending investigation"

"It wouldn't be appropriate for me to comment on the investigation if it is not completed."

ATF Director Kenneth Melson, who has been resisting pressure to resign over the operation, will testify in front of Congress next month and is expected to come forward with information and names of other high ranking officials within the Justice Department who were involved.

The head of the embattled federal agency that combats gun trafficking has agreed to talk with Senate investigators, a potentially important breakthrough as Congress tries to determine whether higher-ups in the Obama administration knew about a controversial sting that let assault weapons flow across the border into Mexico’s drug wars.

Congressman Darrell Issa issued a response to the Presiden't remarks:

"President Obama's remarks today on Operation Fast and Furious were disappointing.  There was no sign of urgency to provide answers or explain why no one at the Justice Department has accepted responsibility for authorizing an illegal gunwalking operation six months after Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry's murder.  The American people expect more from the President than unsubstantiated assertions that the Attorney General didn't know about this reckless program and no explanation about who authorized it."
