McCain’s not selling out the base here again. We wrote two days ago that Hillary’s not beating but crushing the competition in Ohio. And what’s that saying, again?
Sen. John McCain bets that if an election were today, Hillary Clinton would become president of the United States.
“I would bet, my friend, as much as I hate to admit it, that right now — this is why we have campaigns — but right now, if the election were tomorrow, Hillary Clinton would most likely be the president of the United States,” McCain told CNN’s Piers Morgan on Thursday night.
This isn’t to say that Hillary will win. Heck, she’s not even a candidate…yet. But the Maverick’s right: the safe bet is that if the election were held today, she’d probably win. Now, of course, before Bridgegate Gov. Christie (R-NJ) was almost certainly the most competitive Republican challenger in hypothetical head-to-head matchups. But those days are long gone, or so it seems. So who are we left with? None of the presumed GOP presidential candidates poll particularly well against her, either. At least not yet.
Parting thought: Time to take a second look at...former Rep. Allen West (R-FL)? Apparently he's not completely opposed to the idea.
