In a memo to Department of Justice employees dated September 31, just hours before the government shutdown occurred, Attorney General Eric Holder reassured workers the Obama administration is willing to work with Congress to find a solution.
"The Administration continues to strongly believe that a lapse in funding should not occur and is committed to working with Congress to find a solution," Holder wrote.
Over the weekend, the Department of Justice broke it's own contingency protocol by taking down the AMBER Alert website, citing the shutdown. The website has now been restored.
The government has been shut down for one week and President Obama has repeatedly told House Speaker John Boehner he will not negotiate over the funding of the government. The House of Representatives has voted more than a dozen times to reopen the government, but those efforts have been stalled in the Senate by majority leader Harry Reid.
