Obama Muddying the Moral High Ground

Faced with rising opposition to his health care plan, Barack Obama has apparently turned to a higher power:
In a morning conference call with about 1000 rabbis from across the nation, Obama asked for aid: "I am going to need your help in accomplishing necessary reform," the President told the group... "We are God's partners in matters of life and death."

I hate to burst your unbelievable ego bubble Obama, but we are not "partners" with God when it comes to life and death.  As you have so eloquently noted before, it's "above my pay grade."  As a Christian, I believe that God has sole authority over life and death--and everything else, for that matter--but I wouldn't expect you to understand this since the people you surround yourself with seem so convinced you are a messiah sent from Him.  And when it comes to those "matters of life and death," I wonder how God feels about your unabashed support for abortion, including late-term abortions.  Where's your "partnership" when it comes to unborn babies?

Obama went on speaking to religious coalitions, saying that he wanted to re-frame the health care debate as a "moral obligation,” and implored religious leaders to help him in passing his health care reform:
“I know there’s been a lot of misinformation in this debate, and there are some folks out there who are frankly bearing false witness.”
Oh, no.  He did NOT just drop one of God's Commandments to try and stir up support for his own policy agenda!  Ugh, but it gets worse:
“These are all fabrications that have been put out there in order to discourage people from meeting what I consider to be a core ethical and moral obligation: that is, that we look out for one another; that is, I am my brother’s keeper, I am my sister’s keeper. And in the wealthiest nation in the world right now we are neglecting to live up to that call.”

I'm now thoroughly convinced that this man has ABSOLUTELY NO SHAME.  First of all, in the interest of full disclosure, I am a proud Christian.  Second, I just have to voice how positively offended I am that Obama would claim opponents of his health care plan are lying, and I am disgusted by the fact that he is now playing on peoples' religious convictions to garner support for Obamacare.

I know it's been a while since you last went to church on Sunday, Mr. President, but that's no excuse for your absurd behavior.

According to my beliefs, it is true that each man and woman does have a moral and ethical obligation to care for his/her neighbor.  But being a Christian means that each man, woman and child makes their own decision about whether they will be a moral person or not and what role morality plays in their own lives.  It does NOT mean these responsibilities God has given us may be handed off to a government entity to be fulfilled.

Unbelievable.  First Nancy Pelosi insists we are un-American and now the President of the United States is accusing me (and others just like me) of not upholding my devotion to God and my fellow man.  Furthermore, I find it disgusting that a man claims to fight for the poor, yet donates a tiny percentage of his multi-million dollar income to charity.  I also find it disgusting that a sleezy politician would exploit the poor and underserved to launch his career and preferred policies to the highest levels of American government.

And just because Obama is "technically" not lying, it doesn't mean he's not "bearing false witness."  He says there's no provision in the health care bill that mandates abortion, but fails to mention that unless a provision is added that specifically excludes the practice from coverage, abotion-on-demand will be available at the taxpayers' expense.  Congressional Republicans tried to add this provision and DEMOCRATS VOTED IT DOWN.

Bottom line, it is I and I alone who decide to be a moral person and what role religion and morality play in my life--it's called LIBERTY.  Unfortunately the president doesn't afford us this kind of respect and has just made this political debate incredibly personal.

Some of us take those old Commandments pretty seriously, Mr. President.  I suggest you seriously consult your conscience before you again presume to insert yourself as my own.
