Hillary Clinton: I'm Like Paul Revere On This Russia Stuff, You Know

Hillary Clinton: I'm Like Paul Revere On This Russia Stuff, You Know

Total loser Hillary Clinton decided to grace the Tonight Show with Stephen Colbert. It was very fitting. We had two die-hard liberals just engaging in mutually mental stimulation about the 2016 election, Clinton’s future, and the Russians. Hillary’s book, What Happened, has hit the bookshelves. It’s a tale of a woman who thought she had the 2016 election in the bag, only for Donald Trump to blow up her spot. While she takes responsibility for her role in the election defeat, she also jabs Joe Biden, Barack Obama, the FBI, James Comey, sexism, misogyny, and the Russians.  It’s here that things get a bit weird, with the former first lady saying she sees herself as Paul Revere, warning the country about the Russians.

Yeah, it’s not like we never knew that Russia was a rival to the U.S, or anything. Oh, and it’s not like Mitt Romney didn’t warn us about Russia, which the Left laughed off as a Cold War anachronism. Then, Hillary lost in 2016, and people needed to be blamed because she was just the perfect candidate. Of course, I’m being sarcastic.

Now, with the Democratic Party in ruins, the Left has gone from ambivalence towards Russia to borderline Russophobia after Hillary’s defeat. Clinton told Colbert she feels Russia messed with our election, but was very careful to avoid peddling the collusion theory (via Mediaite) [emphasis mine]:

“Do you think they succeeded in messing with our democracy?” Colbert asked.

“Yes, I do,” Clinton responded. “I don’t know what the congressional investigation and I don’t know what the special counsel investigation are going to find. I’m going to wait for that. But I don’t think anybody can with a straight face say that the Russians did not set out to influence our election, and they did so. This latest revelation about the way they bought ads on Facebook and targeted them, we’re going to find out a lot more, Stephen.”

She then invoked historic American figure Paul Revere who famously warned Samuel Adams and John Hancock that “the British are coming” in the American Revolution.

“And I am saying as clearly as I can — I feel like I’m a bit of a, you know, ‘Paula Revere,'” she joked. “I’m trying to sound the alarm about this.”

The ironic part is that in June, Hillary Clinton said she felt that Americans helped the Russians weaponize the information that was published on Wikileaks during the election, an allegation for which there is zero evidence. Even MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell had to call her out for pushing a conspiracy theory. As for the influencing aspect, it’s troubling, but not in the least unusual. The United States has tried to influence various elections from the around the world, 81 times between 1946-2000. The latest attempt apparently being an effort to unseat Benjamin Netanyahu in the most recent election, in which his coalition government held onto power.

At this point, the Russians apparently bought some ads on Facebook, though we don’t know what information was on the ads, what accounts purchased the ads, what they looked like, and how many Americans interacted with them. So, for now, as with anything Hillary Clinton whines about concerning her 2016 loss, it’s an absolute fact that Russia messed with our democracy because she lost. I agree that Russia tried to influence our election, though I think there were more compelling reasons why Clinton lost the election that were not related to this Democratic crutch. The Russians didn’t tell her to avoid the Rust Belt like the plague. There’s also not much to the whole notion that Trump officials may have colluded with the Russians to tilt the election. There’s still no solid evidence on that front either, and overall voters don’t care.

Obviously, as a nuclear and economic power, we need to keep an eye on Russia, but this whole Russians are coming/Paula Revere nonsense is a bit out of step. Also, it’s not like what was published on Wikileaks was false. Many of the nuggets, like the DNC actively thinking of ways to sabotage Sanders, were simply the Democratic dirty laundry being aired. I think the one thing Hillary is overlooking is that she was just a terrible candidate. That’s what happened.
