Israel experienced another string of violence, as tension with their Palestinian neighbors appears to be holding firm. Between Nov. 6-8, there were six separate attacks on Israeli citizens, with one of the perpetrators being a 72-year-old Palestinian widow (via YNetNews):
Six Israelis were wounded in three separate terror attacks in the West Bank on Sunday, all happening within the span of a few hours.Four pedestrians were wounded in a morning vehicular attack at the Tapuah Junction. Two people in their 20s were wounded moderately and seriously while a pregnant woman was lightly hurt. Another woman suffered light-to-moderate wounds.
The terrorist drove rapidly towards a group of Israelis standing at a hitchhiking station before running them over. Two Border Police officers permanently stationed at the junction shot at the assailant, who ran into a concrete barrier, and killed him. He was identified at Sulemain Shaheen, 22, of Ramallah.
Less than two hours later, one person was lightly wounded in a stabbing attack at the entrance to the settlement of Beitar Illit in Gush Etzion. The attacker was shot and wounded.
Less than two hours after the Beitar Illit attack, a 48-year-old man was stabbed and severely wounded in the town of Nabi Ilyas, near the settlement Alfei Menashe.
The Jerusalem Post reported that the man who was stabbed near Beitar Illit was able to drive himself to the nearest checkpoint to seek medical attention. YNet also added that two Israeli teenagers, aged 16 and 18, were shot at the entrance of the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron. One of them is critically wounded. The Times of Israel added that IDF forces have been deployed to find the attackers. They also reported that a short time after the Cave shootings, a 19-year-old IDF soldier was shot in the chest at the Beit Anun junction, which is north of Hebron. To add more fuel to the fire, Israel launched an airstrike into Gaza after Hamas reportedly shot a rocket into Israel on Sunday.
The wave of violence, which began in October, have seen children witnessing their parents' murder, a family being attacked with firebombs, and explosive devices being left in trash cans in Tel Aviv. Luckily, the bomb was inactive. Over the past three weeks, Hebron has been a hotbed of activity when three Palestinian women tried to attack, or had planned to attack, innocent Israelis at the Cave of the Patriarchs. One of them was shot and killed by security forces, while the other two were arrested after knives were found among their belongings in two separate instances. On October 27 an Israeli policeman noticed two Palestinian teenagers acting oddly in Jerusalem and discovered they were armed with an axe and knife. Three more Israelis were wounded in Hebron at the beginning of the month after they were intentionally run over. On November 3, there were three separate knife attacks in Tel Aviv and the West Bank.
As for anything the U.S. can do regarding this crisis, which is centered on negotiating a peace deal between the two sides, the Palestinians have a huge lack of confidence in President Obama–75 percent don't trust him on that front.
