President Trump Announces a Target Date for Opening America

Speaking during an interview with Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer in the Rose Garden Tuesday afternoon, President Trump said he'd like to see the United States open for business by Easter. That's April 12.

"I would love to have the country opened up and just raring to go by Easter," Trump said. "I think it's possible. Why isn't it? We've never close the country before. I think it's absolutely possible. People will have to practice all the social distancing and don't shake hands and wash your hands and all the things that we are doing now. But we have to get our country back to work. Our country wants to be back at work."

"In my opinion, more people are going to die if we allow this to continue. We have to go back to work," he continued.

The country is currently on day nine of a 15 day "stop the spread" program suggested by the federal government to combat the spread of Wuhan coronavirus. A number of governors have already cancelled school for the rest of year and shut down businesses for the next 30 days.

Over the past two days, President Trump indicated a more comprehensive approach will be taken in order to balance economic consequences with decisions being made by medical experts.

"America will again and soon be open for business. Very soon, a lot sooner than three or four months as someone was suggesting. We're not going to let the cure be worse than the problem itself. We're not going to let the cure be worse than the problem," Trump said Monday night during the daily Wuhan coronavirus task force briefing. "This was a medical problem, we are not going to let it turn into a long lasting financial problem."

"Our country wasn't built to be shut down," he continued. "If you had a viable business in January we are committed to ensuring the same is true in the coming weeks, in fact we want to make it better than before."
