NRA Reiterates Stance Terrorists Should Not Have The Ability to Purchase or Possess Firearms

The National Rifle Association has concluded a meeting with GOP presumptive nominee Donald Trump, who the group endorsed last month, about keeping terrorists from having access to firearms.

"We are happy to meet with Donald Trump.  The NRA's position on this issue has not changed.  The NRA believes that terrorists should not be allowed to purchase or possess firearms, period.  Anyone on a terror watch list who tries to buy a gun should be thoroughly investigated by the FBI and the sale delayed while the investigation is ongoing," NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris Cox released in a statement. "If an investigation uncovers evidence of terrorist activity or involvement, the government should be allowed to immediately go to court, block the sale, and arrest the terrorist.  At the same time, due process protections should be put in place that allow law-abiding Americans who are wrongly put on a watch list to be removed.  That has been the position of Sen. John Cornyn (R.-Tex.) and a majority of the U.S. Senate.  Sadly, President Obama and his allies would prefer to play politics with this issue."

Both the terror watch list and terror no-fly list, two separate databases, are full of Americans who have no ties to terror at all. Once someone is placed on either list, it is nearly impossible to get off and currently, there is no due process. The terror no-fly list holds approximately 60,000 names. The terror watch list is made up of one million names, including journalists and even American politicians.
