Conservative Latinas Take on La Raza Ethnic Studies
Emily Jerne, a student at the University of Arizona, grew up in Mexico and is taking on the racist ethnic studies program being taught in the Tucson Unified School District. This program encourages the overthrow of the United States government and the reconquering of what groups like La Raza call Mexico's land. Gabby Saucedo Mercer, a naturalized citizen and active tea party member, is joining her in the fight. Both women have been intimidated by members of La Raza and other open border groups like Derechos Humanos for their stance against the program. Mercer had a rock thrown through the back window of her car after showing support for Arizona Governor Jan Brewer just before the November 2010 elections.
