The White House has lent it's hand to the Democratic campaign efforts in those states, but White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs says the White House isn't paying attention:
I don't think, looking at the two gubernatorial races, you can draw with any great insight what's going to happen a year from now.
Whether or not these elections are bellweathers is the subject of heated debate, especially with the NY-23 results.
