Former WH Counsel: Dems Have 'Manufactured' Excuses Against Kavanaugh

Some Senate Democrats are refusing to give President Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh the time of day. They have no legitimate reason for the obstruction, according to former White House counsel C. Boyden Gray, who served President George H. W. Bush from 1989 to 1993. In an op-ed for The Hill, Gray excoriated these politicians for "manufacturing" excuses to ignore Kavanaugh, like their sudden need to see all of his old White House documents.

Senate Democrats have no excuse for refusing to meet with President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, so they have manufactured one. Democrats say they need even more documents than the White House has offered from Kavanaugh’s days in the executive branch. That is absurd.

The White House has already provided plenty of documents related to Kavanaugh's experience working in the Bush administration, including over 200,000 pages of emails, Gray explained. What more do they want??

A lot more, actually. Before they even consider voting for Kavanaugh, Democrats are now asking for all the emails Kavanaugh sent or received during his tenure as White House Staff Secretary.

"Subjecting all of these deliberative documents to public scrutiny would chill communications between future presidents and their staff, which could be disastrous for the country," Gray argued.

Not to mention, their request is "ludicrous" because the documents they want "would reveal nothing about Judge Kavanaugh’s legal views or judicial aptitude."

Some Democratic senators like Joe Manchin (D-WV) have met with Kavanaugh, but Manchin is being criticized for immediately heading to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's office as soon as he finished speaking with the nominee. He rushed to Schumer's office despite already telling the minority leader to "kiss his you know what" over this Supreme Court vote. The decision would have nothing to do with Schumer, he suggested.

We all know how Schumer feels about the nominee, having already pledged to stop Kavanaugh with "everything he's got."
