Trump Has a Message For NFL Players Who Refuse to Honor National Anthem

Since it was a somber 15th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks on Sunday, many football fans hoped that NFL players would not continue to follow Colin Kaepernick's lead and neglect the national anthem. That, unfortunately, was not the case. Players from the Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs knelt and/or raised their fists when the "Star Spangled Banner" began to play this weekend.

Republican nominee Donald Trump is having none of it.

“I think it’s a lack of respect for our country,” Trump said on Fox & Friends. “It’s a lack of appreciation for our country and it’s a very sad thing. I have never seen anything quite like it. You’re talking about a major sport, maybe the major sport. When you see that, it leads to a lot of other things. I think it’s lack of respect and appreciation of our country.”

The good news is most of the NFL teams did it right on Sunday. American flags covered the field at New Jersey's MetLife stadium, and a bald eagle even flew over the M&T Bank stadium before the Baltimore Ravens/Buffalo Bills game.

A special shoutout goes to the few players who went the extra mile and donned cleats that had the American flag painted on them, as well as the message "Never Forget," despite the risk of being fined by the league.
