Attackers in Paris, Brussels Were Targeting Euro 2016 Soccer Tournament

New information from Mohamed Abrini, the "man in the hat" who was arrested in Belgium following the attacks in Brussels, suggests that the terror cell was planning on attacking the upcoming Euro 2016 soccer tournament. The tournament is due to be played from June 10 through July 10 in France.

The cell that carried out the Paris and Brussels attacks sought to target the Euro 2016 soccer championships in France, ISIS terror suspect Mohamed Abrini has told interrogators, according to a source close to the investigation.

Investigators are working to verify Abrini's claims, the source told CNN.

Also, a computer used by Brussels attackers Ibrahim and Khalid El Bakraoui and found in a garbage bin outside the group's bomb factory contained a file of research indicating La Defense shopping mall in Paris and a Catholic association were additional potential targets, the source said.

In the November 2015 attacks in Paris, bombs were detonated outside of a soccer arena while a game was taking place.

Obviously, this is very scary. Terrorists will adapt and shift their plans to try to strike by surprise and inflict the most harm. While Abrini may have been caught, there are dozens of others still out there. Thankfully, at least some of their plots have been foiled before someone was hurt or killed.
