Sheldon Whitehouse Thinks the Department of Justice Should Silence Climate Change Skeptics

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse thinks that if you don't believe that man-made global warming exists, you should be sued by the Department of Justice.

The senator was speaking to the League of Conservation Voters when said this, via Grabien:

“But, this vast denial apparatus that propagates the false doubt, that props up the phony science, that gets these yahoos who can’t survive peer-reviewed scrutiny onto Fox News, onto the cable shows, saying that their scientists, they create an artificial conflict about this and that’s why I think there’s doubt. A lot of people haven’t seen through the scam that’s being perpetrated. So that’s one of the reasons I hope that we get another lawsuit out of the Department of Justice, like the one they brought against the tobacco industry that showed that that whole fraudulent scam was a racketeering enterprise, held them accountable for it.”

Yes senator, those of us who do not believe that climate change is man-made are running a very elaborate, complex scam funded by those evil oil companies. We are no different than the tobacco industry. You've caught us, senator.

But actually, Senator Whitehouse has it completely backwards. See, it is actually those perpetuating the man-made global warming myth who are ignoring science and running an elaborate scam.

For starters, it is a common misconception that higher CO2 leads to higher temperatures. But, as Dr. Willie Soon from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center of Astrophysicists and Dr. David Legates of the University of Delaware explain, it's actually the other way around- higher temperatures lead to higher levels of CO2:

As Legates explains, 99.9% of the energy that goes into the Earth's climate is caused by the sun. So it's a completely natural phenomenon.

In addition, carbon dioxide's effect on the atmosphere is minimal, at best. Just look at the fact that we have been in an 18-year pause in global warming.

And common sense would dictate that this is so. After all, we humans exhale carbon dioxide a lot on a daily basis, and plants rely on carbon dioxide for energy. As Mark Levin likes to say, without greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, we would be Mars.

The reason why a lot of people don't know this about global warming is that they have been fed a hoax all these years. Remember the ClimateGate scandal, where emails were leaked showing that scientists at Britain's Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia hid the decline in temperatures since 1995?

The director of the CRU, Phil Jones, had to resign because he supposedly lost data that showed warming since 1995. Jones was also a key figure in producing Michael Mann's phony hockey stick graph as well as being in charge of two sets of data that were crucial to the IPCC's report on climate change.

The CRU is not the only organization that hid the decline of temperature:

The numbers matter. Under pressure in 2007, NASA recalculated its data and found that 1934, not 1998, was the hottest year in its records for the contiguous 48 states. NASA later changed that data again, and now 1998 and 2006 are tied for first, with 1934 slightly cooler.

Well that would certainly put a dent in the argument that the Earth has been warming, which is why NASA tried to hide it. And the recent claim that 2014 was the hottest year on record: likely not true.

Oh, and Al Gore, a hero to the environmental left, is not allowed to show his movie "The Inconvenient Truth" in the U.K. without acknowledging 11 inaccuracies in the film.

The left will also bring up the notion that 97% of scientists believe in man-made climate change, which is also a myth.

So given all these lies and cover-ups involving man-made climate change, it's no wonder why someone like Sheldon Whitehouse would want to silence those of us who are skeptics. With the hoax exposed, the calls for cap-and-trade, a carbon tax, coal regulations, etc. won't gain as much traction.

It has been the proponents of man-made climate change believers like Sen. Whitehouse who are using the tobacco-style tactics, not those who don't believe in man-made climate change.
