Ayaan Hirsi Ali on Her New Book Heretic: Islam Needs Reformation, Now

We can't talk about Islam critically without being called Islamophobic. We can't criticize Islam through the press without being threatened with lawsuits or death. We can't discuss violent Islam without being forced to draw a false moral equivalence.

According to Al Qaeda hit list target, New York Times Best Selling Author and Harvard Kennedy School of Government Fellow Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a woman who fled Islam after being mutilated and nearly forced into a marriage, all of that has to stop. Islam needs a Reformation and it needs one now.

"When a Muslim sees you reading this book and says, 'I am offended, my feelings are hurt,' your reply should be: 'What matters more? Your sacred text? Or the life of this book's author? Your sacred text? Or the rule of law? Human life, human freedom, human dignity -- they all matter more than any sacred text.' Christians have been through this, Jews have been through it. In that sense I passionately believe in the world-changing power of blasphemy," Hirsi Ali writes in her new book Heretic, which is in book stores today. "The dawn of a Muslim Reformation is the right moment to remind ourselves that the right to think, to speak, and to write in freedom and without fear is ultimately a more sacred thing than any religion."

Hirsi Ali was on Fox News' The Kelly File last night to discuss her new book and reminded the audience that those speaking out against Islam are "literally putting their lives on the line."
