CRNC Launches 'Say Yes to the Dress' Themed Ad Campaign, Critics Call it 'Sexist'

CRNC Launches 'Say Yes to the Dress' Themed Ad Campaign, Critics Call it 'Sexist'

For those unfamiliar with the show “Say Yes to the Dress,” the concept is pretty simple: A bride-to-be considers her wedding dress options, deliberating on the look and feel and, most importantly, the price. When she finds the perfect fit, she says “yes.” The College Republican National Committee employed this idea in its new ad campaign for Republican gubernatorial candidates across the country, entitled “Say Yes to the Candidate.”

The ads feature gubernatorial candidates Asa Hutchinson in Arkansas, Bob Beauprez in Colorado, Bruce Rauner in Illinois, Rick Snyder in Michigan, Tom Corbett in Pennsylvania and Rick Scott in Florida.

Check out the one-minute Asa Hutchinson spot, which describes the Asa Hutchinson dress as such, “Asa Hutchinson is becoming a trusted brand. He has new ideas that don’t break your budget.”

Harmless, right? Not according to some politically correct and incessantly outraged feminists. Over at Time, Charlotte Alter breathlessly claims that this ad is the most “sexist Republican ad of the year.”

I think Alter needs to get a new hobby – or pinpoint the apparent sexism in the Democratic party.

The CRNC’s latest campaign may be corny, but it’s not sexist. As Red Alert Politics points out, it is a breath of fresh air in light of Democratic ads like “brosurance,” which suggested women were only interested in obtaining birth control. Or how about that Lena Dunham ad in which she proclaimed voting for Obama was her “first time?” Liberal ads like this suggest young women are only interested in sex, not the country’s larger issues. Yet, Republicans are the sexist ones for saying women like to wear dresses?
