How Do You Save The “Titanic”?

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

The most recent Gallup poll has Gov. Romney up about six points over Obama in the upcoming election.  He is over 50% and his lead looks to be growing every day.  Ok, so let’s just say that this holds and Romney manages to pull out wins in the crucial swing states.  He is now the President.

When all of the dust settles and he can see a clear picture of what faces him for the next four years, what could he possibly be thinking?  The scenario I am imagining is that it is around 1:00am on April 15th, 1912 and after hitting an iceberg, the “Titanic” is going down.  This is where America is right now.  It has hit the iceberg, but it hasn’t yet sunk.

Captain Barack Obama steered this country onto a course of disaster.  As Mitt Romney stated in debate number 2, unemployment has not been reduced to 5.4% as promised, Medicare and social security are going bankrupt, there is no immigration plan, the borders are porous and the deficit is up to $16 trillion dollars.  Obamacare is a huge anchor around the necks of most Americans and businesses with health care premiums going up $2500 for middle class families, there are 23 million people out of work and 1 out of 6 people living in poverty.  Not to mention a failed foreign policy that deteriorates daily.

Now, if Mitt Romney wins, Obama will step away from the wheel of the “Titanic” and let Romney take the helm.  Unfortunately, we’ve hit the iceberg; we are taking on water at an alarming rate and sinking looks to be inevitable.

How do you right the ship when the forward deck has dipped underwater, the sea is pouring in and the ship is splitting apart?  The only way is to have a plan, a solid plan that slowly but surely stops the sinking.

Romney has that plan.  He has laid it out for the American people.  At least he HAS a plan, which is more than I can say for Captain Obama.  With the main goal of job creation and higher pay for working families, that is a start.  Getting out from under suffocating regulations and letting businesses breathe is another.  Becoming energy independent, approving the Keystone pipeline and streamlining permitting is another.

Lowering taxes and curtailing unfair trade practices would start stimulating growth.  With more growth comes more jobs and more jobs means more tax revenue.  That reduces the deficit.

One of the biggest things that would halt the sinking of the ship will be the repeal of Obamacare.  That is the anchor that is pulling the ship down faster and once it is gone, we can at least right ourselves and make another plan.  One can only hope that a Romney presidency would be able to bring the two parties together to work in a bi-partisan way.  I know that it is probably wishful thinking on my part, but he has done it before and in any case would be more apt to do it than Obama.

With Mitt Romney we at least have a chance of saving this country.  We already know what to expect from Obama, another four years of the same thing and probably worse.

Captain Obama has no plan.  His crew is helplessly scurrying around deck looking for any way to save his sinking ship.  Just like on the “Titanic”, the crew assured the passengers that it would be fine, not to worry, they would take care of it.  Don’t believe that guy that is telling you the ship is sinking-he’s a liar!  Many people believed that and didn’t save themselves.

America this is where we are.  We are at a crossroads and the decision is coming closer by the day.  Are we going to let Mitt Romney take the wheel of the ship and put it back on course or are we going to stick with Captain Obama and go down with him to the bottom of the sea?

Sink or swim, it’s your choice.
