Reporting on the Mirror – NBC NEWS

  • She did not even last as long as Don Lemon.

The mental health issues at NBC News have been on full display the past few days, as we have seen a parade of on-air hosts delivering therapy session monologues about how tragic it was that former RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel had been hired as a commentator. Well, the children got their wish, it seems. Dylan Beyers is reporting that the brass at NBC buckled under the pressure of tantrums and have decided to let McDaniel go, before she has even appeared under her new agreement.

It remains to be seen what she will be compensated with from the reportedly $300,000 contract she signed.

Low-Octane Gaslighting – POLITICO

Jack Schafer was covering the McDaniel affair and declared that Chuck Todd’s emotional rendering on Sunday’s “Meet to the Press” somehow mattered. Just the very fact that a former political operative was complaining about the hiring of a former political operative should have explained it does not matter, at all, but then there was this passage where Todd invalidated himself in the process:

I have no idea whether any answer she gave to you was because she didn’t want to mess up her contract.

Well, Chuck, if her credibility is questioned because you are unsure if she is saying something just to appease NBC News bosses, what does it say about your credibility, since those same bosses are cutting your check?

Matching Media Memorandum – MSNBC

  • The tough talk after banishment is rather weak tea.

Among the litany of MSNBC personalities melting down yesterday, the clear winner was Nicolle Wallace, as she mourned the despicable incursion McDaniel posed to their “sacred airwaves.” But it feels like a special honor should also be paid to Lawrence O’Donnell. He, too, gave a lengthy monologue of the dire threat posed by McDaniel, but he could not seem to keep things straight, all while talking tough with no promise of needing to deliver on his posturing words.

He stated he had questions for Ronna, and then declared he had no reason to ask her questions as a political operative. Then he went ahead and delivered those questions anyway, although he noted that MSNBC pledged to not bring her on the air, and he then mentioned having her on his program anyway. This, in response to the news of her hiring, which he clearly opposed as she is considered an invalid figure.

Larry seemed very confused in his declarative peacocking, and delivered a distinctive feel of someone grateful to not have to get into a conflict, while shouting, “You’re just lucky my chick’s here, man!”

Both Kinds of Standards – ROLLING STONE

The flailing outlet has delivered a brilliant dose of conflicting accusations in this “report” on the elections process. Just recall that for years, it has been the fourth rail topic for anyone to declare the 2020 election was stolen, but somehow, it is acceptable for the Biden campaign to set up an infrastructure plan — ominously called a “Superstructure” to prevent Trump from stealing the upcoming election. Also, it has been decried as a conspiracy to say 2020 was stolen, but it is regarded as sound reasoning for Biden to say that the Trump campaign “has been working for years to pre-rig the 2024 election.” (What happened to the most secure election claims we were sold when Biden won?)

This is the same logic that says Trump needs to be blocked from ballots in authoritative fashion because he is an authoritarian threat, and that preventing voters from having a valid choice in the voting booth is done in order to preserve our democracy.

Just to clarify this two-sided approach to election strategies, in December, the same two writers — Asawin Suebsaeng and Adam Rawnsley — looked into Trump making very similar kinds of preparations, with legal teams and other people being put into place, but then, of course, this was declared to be Trump’s effort to “steal” the election.

Glossary Over Things – BUSTLE

There are all manner of social ills we can ascribe to TikTok. One of those we here at RFTH find intolerable is the need to “discover” new things that are, in fact, items everyone has been aware of for generations. (One of the all-time favorites was the revolutionary “Time Blocking,” which most of us know as scheduling in a weekly planner.)

The latest example is that sense of remorse you sometimes will experience when it is nice outside but you are just in a lazy mood and prefer to lounge about. Well, this has nowadays been reclassified as “Sunshine Guilt.” The solution is simple — get your lazy ass outside! Oh, wait: The outlet even spoke with a number of psychologists about this supposedly new emotional phenomenon, with more clinical advice on how to deal with this crippling disorder.
