Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

In 2010, Pennsylvania will have hot races for governor and the U.S. Senate, too. Add the seat left by Republican U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach in the Southeast – a close race that will have tons of money from both parties – and you have Pennsylvania once again at the epicenter of national politics.

Right now, the state’s biggest buzz is the “Joe-mentum” radiating from the declared but unfiled U.S. Senate candidacy of Rep. Joe Sestak, a Delaware County Democrat who is taking on the 28-year incumbent and newly-declared Democrat, Arlen Specter.

When Specter switched parties this spring, he bargained for (and got) the field cleared by President Barack Obama and Gov. Ed Rendell, first with their endorsements and then with their mandates that party members follow suit.

What they did not count on was the tenacity, persistence and appeal of Sestak, who refused to clear a path for Specter, or the tepid response from committee members and party chairs to the long-time Republican Specter.

“Leadership can only make endorsements, and while it is good to know where they stand, that does not mean we have to fall in line,” says Jim Burn, the Democrats’ Allegheny County chairman.

Villanova University’s Lara Brown strongly believes Sestak can beat Specter in the primary: “The only caveat is that he needs to continue raising substantial sums of money, so that he can buy the advertising time.”

That cash also will allow him to do other marketing, such as mail pieces and maybe billboards, to help him become better-known outside of Philly and her suburbs.

Sestak has significant structural advantages that likely were part of his decision-making.

First, Pennsylvania has a closed primary. This is incredibly important, because liberal Republicans (and Republican-leaning independents registered with the GOP) may have been inclined to stick with Specter but cannot vote for him against Sestak – unless they change their party registration.

While some may do so, it is doubtful enough will to change the outcome. Most will want to remain registered Republican, to vote in the party's gubernatorial and Senate primaries.

Unlike last year’s presidential primary, when some party-switching occurred, a few exciting races will be on the GOP side next year, Brown says. Besides, few Republicans will feel that committed to Specter, who abandoned their party and was disloyal on numerous votes before that.

Second, this is a midterm election – incredibly important because of who generally turns out. Those voters are different than ones who turn out in a presidential year; typically, it is smaller, more partisan and more politically engaged electorate.

“This helps Sestak tremendously,” Brown notes. “Essentially, the primary electorate will be made up of loyal Democrats who have most likely voted five times against Specter in general-election contests since 1980. Why in the world would they want to vote for Specter now?”

Specter has a tougher case to make to these folks: It boils down to, "Forget all of our electoral history and vote for me because Rendell and Obama like me."

Sestak's argument is more straightforward and more appealing: "I'm the best Democrat in this primary, so vote for me."

He also is a good fit for the state. He’s a moderate Democrat with a military background. He has a large family that can act as surrogates around the state and help create "personal" connections. And he has a national profile – having served as a national security adviser in Clinton's administration – which will help him raise money in places such as New York and California.

As for his “netroots,” Markos Moulitsas, publisher and editor of the Daily Kos, assures that plenty of money will flow to Sestak once he files.

Should Sestak win both the primary and the general election, he will not owe his seat to the party leadership, allowing him to buck that leadership (if he wants to) on Senate votes.

“That would put him in a great position to be able to craft a legacy that is independent of his party,” notes Brown.

That’s an advantage for Pennsylvanians, enabling him to better represent the state's interests than most senators who make it to Congress.

PA is a blue state now. Santorum lost by 1 million votes. Obama won by 700,000.

Sestak and Specter
If Sestak wins over Specter in the senatorial primary, he will lose to Pat Tommey in November 2010 general election. Democrats will be so unpopular in '10 because of their steadfast adherence to the standard Obama line of bull in addition to high unemployment numbers, the threat of higher taxes and the chicanery attempted by the Dems with their health care ramrod proposal(i.e. reduce Medicare benefits to pay for national health care) in addition to the historical observation of an increase in votes due to the party-out advantage.
The baby-boomers aren't going to be deceived by the something for nothing cha-cha-cha anymore. They still represent the most powerful voting block.
To paraphrase that wise man, "You can't fool all the people all the time"

Medicare Recipients Screwed in ObamaPlan

MEDICARE RECIPIENTS TO LOSE $ 400,000,000,000 IN OBAMA'S HEALTH PLAN

Obama plans to cut Medicare funding by 400 Billion Dollars to subsidize his Health Insurance Plan.

Medicare recipients will be faced with rationing and will move from the front of the line to the back.

That 400 Billion Dollars will be used to add over 11 Million Illegal Aliens to the health care rolls.

Most Medicare recipients are unaware of this.

HYPOCRITES & OBAMA'S HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN

AARP is backstabbing those they're suppose to protect by not informing their members of the 400 Billion Dollar Medicare cut.

In fact the liberal AARP is backing Obama's plan to the detriment of their members.

Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida is also going to backstab all those Medicare recipients in Florida that he represents.

Sen. Bill Nelson will vote for the Obama plan & cut in Medicare funds.

For those of you who are members of AARP or residents of Florida, tell AARP or Sen. Nelson that they are Backstabbing Hypocrites.

Also that you are going to resign from AARP or not vote for Sen. Nelson.

Oh what fun...
It was deliciously satisfying to see Specter at the juvenile end of the horseshoe during the Sotofool hearings, senior only to 'laughing boy' Franken, who, in raging on about his playpen period during which he watched Perry Mason, thought he was on the Letterman show.

What an indignity for the former maker and breaker of all SCOTUS appointees! And no Kennedy!

I wonder if he spent this weekend celebrating the 40th anniversary of the murder he got away with.

Arlen Specter is pathetic

Sestak is a nutcase but Specter needs to finish his career in shame.

Pat Toomey Is Tanned,Rested & Ready !

As Of July 12 ,2009 :
Republican Senate candidate Pat Toomey has raised $1.55 million since announcing his candidacy in April, according to campaign finance figures he plans to release today.

Toomey, a former congressman from the Lehigh Valley, has about $1.05 million left in the bank. That compares to $1.8 million Sen. Bob Casey had raised by this point in his 2006 race against Rick Santorum, according to Toomey's campaign.

Just desserts
I wish him to lose, but just who is this guy who may run against him? Could it be possible he is even more far left than Specter? I would not miss seeing his ugly face on camera ever again however.

LENIN
COULD BE RUNNING AGAINST ARLEN AND I WOULD VOTE FOR HIM. GOOD RIDDANCE.

The Defeat of Arlen Sphincter
Will be just desserts and sweet revenge. Let's hope the same thing happens to Olympic Snowjob and Snoozin' Collins who still wishes Bill Clinton would give her the ol cigar.

I'm not sure
why as conservatives, we care what Democrat scumbag wins in PA. But, since I lived in PA for 16 years and voted against Specter every time he was running, I would love to see him lose this one!

Go Toomey!

Specter always was a Democrat
If anyone thinks that the ObaMarxist and the small time hood from Searchlight are going to keep their promises to Specter, they are smoking something that Barry is probably still toking. Specter was the consummate "useful idiot" to those guys, and now they are done with him. Specter is just too stupid to get it! While they may pretend to back him, and perhaps even do one tepid fundraiser, the Greek behind the curtain has his REAL money going to Septic Sestak. It is important that Specter lose. It is past time to purge the party of the RINO virus that has been disabling the conservative movement. We must support Toomey. If it is meant to be, Toomey will get the nod. If not, at least the other RINOs, including the simpering, whimpering Maine sisters will get the message.

"What is it about D.C. that turns these people into cowardly, ranting liers after more than two terms?"

Screw the People!!!
That's the mantra of Nutter, Slestak, Rendell AND Specter. The PEOPLE of PA voted for and fought for CCW permits on the FL model and GOT THEM!!

NOW, just because the street scum in Philly is making the pols load their pants the HONEST people for fought for CCW are being told "Too bad, we're going to take it away again."

Soli Deo Gloria!!!

Sestack
Sestack will be beholding to Kos, moveon and the left wing. He'll watch out for Pennsylvanians as long as the left agrees. He won his congressional seat because Curt Weldon got into legal trouble before the election (how convenient). Spector doesn't have a chance to beat him unless the Republicans switch to Democrat to vote. They then can vote against Spector in the general election.

Hopefully Sestack loses and a Republican can will the Senate seat and the Congressional seat.

To the Maine Sillynannies
I hope Spector's situation is a bit of a warning to Snowe and Collins that the Democrats aren't going to be any more forgiving. They've already used up their freebie(s) for the next 6 years by voting for 800 billion of porkulus.

Honor the Carnea
Has anyone noticed Arlen Spector looks like one of the Ephors from 300?

Those Career Polititians
Why don't we just ask ourselves what kind of people do we have from all parties that are running our government and ruining our nation. The Repubs and the Demos are both total liers, cheats and thieves. I keep coming up with solutions to this but it is way to violent.

I believe it would be a true americanism if come November 2010 not ONE INCUMBENT was re-elected. What is it about D.C. that turns these people into cowardly, ranting liers after more than two terms?

It is almost biblical in the stupifying ignorance of a nation of non-christians.

Specter Deserves to Lose
Specter cast in his lot with Democrats and their disastrous policies, so he deserves to lose along with them.

Yesterday's News Crankboy !

Obama and Fast Eddie are already backing Specter and it's causing fractures among Pennsylvania Democrats.

Pat Toomey is building his War Chest and Name Recognition ,as his only potential serious opponent Jim Gerlach is running for Governor.

SPECTER
WHOEVER ARLEN SPECTER VOTES FOR, THE PEOPLE OF PA SHOULD VOTE FOR THE OTHER CANDIDATE

Who will win Pennsylvania?

Whoever President Obama wants to win Pennsylvania.

If Specter votes yes, he's in.

Just for you Donald...
I had never thought about it, but this is what Dictionary.com had to say on the matter:

***From is more common today in introducing a phrase, but than is also used: New York speech is different from (or than) that of Chicago.***

Specter & Sestak
Well! An intelligent voice on a reply (Donald). I am neither "R nor D" but "L" (Libertarian). I would like to see a Libertarian senator but a good conservative would be acceptable. Specter did not fit the mold.

Different....
"By the way, it is a minor matter and perhaps I am behind the times, but doesn't "different" call for a following "from" rather than a "than." I note that more and more speakers and writers do that. And all of those who do it are supposed to be educated.
Donald W. Bales "

Donald, you are following the same pattern of speech that I learned when I was in public school, and I am confident that you understand the usage of the English language for communication far better than most people whose writings appear in public these days. There are, once in a great while, instances in which "different than" is appropriate, but such are few and far between. I have the idea that you know how to diagram sentences.

Specter
I never liked him as a Republican. He was a RINO. I would like to see a Republican win the Senatorial election in Pennsylvania. We need some counterbalance to Obama and the liberal Democrats.
By the way, it is a minor matter and perhaps I am behind the times, but doesn't "different" call for a following "from" rather than a "than." I note that more and more speakers and writers do that. And all of those who do it are supposed to be educated.
Donald W. Bales

Hasta La Vista Specter
I hope Specter loses in the primary, but I also hope Sestak loses to Pat Toomey in the general election. Toomey will fight for all families in Pa who are against the tremendous amount of govt. spending. I will be campaigning for Toomey, soon. Good Luck Pat Toomey.

Crumpled Arlen
Now that Arlen Specter has proved his disloyalty to the Republicans [even though he was already a RINO] , he is officially a Democrat. His other Democrat-like assets? They appear to be uncompromising Liberalism, blind hubris, and jockeying for the votes he thinks he'll get. Most Republicans will not vote for him, nor will numerous Democrats who aren't sure exactly who or what he is. Hey! That's easy. He's a failed politician doing everything he can think of to get re-elected. He continues to be a rather wrinkled and crumbling poster boy for term limits. His existence provides more ammo for the idea that two terms is enough. Besides, when you're over 70, you should retire like normal people.
And Sestak seems to be another growing sleazeball who fits easily into the Democrat Party. I think 'Republican' may be the result for this Senate Race.

Either way, the Dems . . .
. . . will have the seat unless a Republican wins.

Given that Pennsylvania voted against itself by electing Barack Obama, why should anyone expect the state to come to its senses now?

Maybe, though, turncoat and loose-cannon-on-the-deck Arlen Specter will find out the price for his self-serving change of parties. Couldn't happen to a more deserving legiislator.

Blalock?
I can't help but see Arlen Specter as the sinister character "Blalock" from the episoce "The Coromite Maneuver" in the original Star Trek Series. Specter has a sinister personality to match.

Don't believe me!

Go to: http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Original-Corbomite-Maneuve r/dp/6300213072

The Real Deal
Pat Toomey was my Congressman here in the PA 15th and I can tell you that he is the real deal. He is intelligent, articulate, and a true conservative. He will be more than a match for whoever the Democrates nominate after their very bloody primary battle. If all goes well we can get a twofer - Pat in the Senate and Fast Eddie Spendell out of the Governor's Mansion

Arlen Specter
It dosent matter who runs against Specter. It could be joe palloka and he would win. Its not the money or advertising, Specter is viewed as a trator on both sides. He is a old Over the hill has been. Forget what the politicians say, That's in the past. This ousting of incumbents will happen across the USA. People are ANGRY and when angered all reason goes out the window. Watching the results should be fun. Pass the popcorn.

Wrat rangler,
you asked a great question. I left the Keystone State in 2000, so I'm not up on who these people really are. With the exception of Specter and Murtha. Oh! I don't want to forget Santorum.

He seems OK except that I think I heard that he campaigned for Specter, and Specter is a world class creep. From some of the posters, who obviously know more about Sestak than I do, it sounds like he is a bad choice too.

Frankly, I'm glad that I left PA. Democrats control the state and I have absolutely no use for today's Democrats. Rendell is a disaster as far as the Second Amendment is concerned. For that reason alone I am glad to be away from the state.

Arlen's seat
It's past time for Arlen and every other 3 or 4 term Senator to leave and find a real job.

Pa.
It is time for all of Pa. voters to think: let us stop the socialist pacifist Dems on the national scene. Electing Joe or Arlen does not help that cause. Sure Pat is not the usual wussy Pub that Pa. has running. He actually stands for something. It is time for those Pa. Dems and Indies who are not pro-abortion, not pro-socialist healthcare or Cap and Trade to finally root out the liberal leaning(and whether Joe is a military guy or not, he will kow tow to the Leftist Senate leadership when voting) reps who have not served the nation or Pa. well . Getting rid of Arlen, and other lefty reps. like Murtha would be a service to the entire nation.

Rick Santorum

Rick Santorum was very popular with Taxpayers in Pennsylvania.

If Santorum ran against Arlen Specter, He would beat Specter easily.

Many Democrats voted for Bob Casey because they thought they were voting for the former Governor who was also popular with the Taxpayers.

Joe Sestak
I knew that son of a bich when he was an ensign in the Navy. We served together aboard USS Richard E. Byrd (DDG-23). He was roundly hated by his enlisted men and was not well liked by his brother officers. He was regarded as a self serving batard who would step on anyone in his drive to advance his career. He carried that trait all through his career. He met his career demise when he finally had superior officers who had honor and integrity. He got fired and resigned pretty much in disgrace.
He is still stepping on people. He has had most of his staffers quit due to his demand that they work 7 days a week, 14 hours a day. He has an F rating from the NRA but an A rating from NARAL.
We need to make sure that Pat Toomey has the money he needs to finish Sestak for good.

Who cares about Sestak?
The intent should be on supporting Pat Toomey, not the coming contest between a traitorous RINO and his Pit Bull challenger. This article fairly ignores the Republican challenger as though the lock of a Democrat win in PA is given, why bother.

The people are watching as the current administration commandeers our Gross Domestic Product, forces them into health care solutions they don't want, "rules" the economic sector and is poised to destroy our energy infrastructure. When you include the slavish Democrat Congress and their determination to end representative government, Republican candidates may fare as they did in 1994.

Political pundits who meld with the beltway mentality when writing their articles would do well to keep this in mind.

Fallen RINO - I can only hope!!!
Spector was the worst of the RINO lot - He has been a doormat for the RINO wing of a once proud Republican Party which has been almost destroyed by Bush and his elitist ilk. Bush sold out the Party and almost every core Republican belief during his eight year "Reign of the RINO's." The filty rich feel guilty so they make sure that the middle class pays for it; and the middle class gets gutted as a result. By the way America; Wall Street has just pulled off one of the greatest financial crimes in recorded history; started under Bush and now perpetuated by Obama. Both these political parties are now fundamentally corrupt. Until jobs come back the economy is DOA; all this other stuff going on is mindless desperation hoping to delay an economic collapse. Seeing a RINO like Spector go down may not help this; but it sure would feel good!

Pat Toomey's War Chest Is Growing !

The NRSC officially endorsed Toomey in a statement, touting his principled conservative stands and his past success representing a competitive Lehigh Valley House district.

“Through hard work and self-reliance, Pat Toomey has successfully represented a Democrat-leaning district and accomplished much in his private sector endeavors,” NRSC chairman John Cornyn said in a statement. “Congressman Toomey is a vigorous and determined advocate for the people of Pennsylvania, and he is clearly guided by principles instead of political opportunism.”

Skip, why trade
a Sphincter for a Sleestak?

It would truly be
satisfying if the voters of PA vote for Sestak. Specter is a disgrace to public office. He has demonstrated clearly that he is loyal to himself only. Pennsylvania really needs to dump this creep.

It took a Herculean effort
to unseat Santorum. They DRAINED their resources going after him. In a truly just world Santorum would become governor and Twoomey goes to the Senate. Fast Eddy and Michael Nutter can BOTH rot and burn in HELL!!!!

Just what the...
country needs right now is a Democrat that does not "owe" anything to the party in power. I'm an Independent from a predominantly Dem. state and I vote my conscience, which usually means my wallet. Unfortunately living in a welfare and tax driven state like NJ my conserative voice is a whisper in the wind, but still I stay true to my ideals. But when Specter jumped party lines and showing no loyalty, it was only too obvious what his intentions were (win an election and stay in power) and by kissing Obamas and Rendells collective butts just made me sick. I hope that Sestak buries him in the primary and lays to rest the "specter" of Specter.

Lonny
Santorum's defeat wasn't bad enough, you had to lie about it? You libs can't even tell the truth when it's in your favor.

The USA is no more...
gran ................... Location: PA

... Joe Sestak and the liberal wing of the democrat party are selling us out. Pretty soon we won't recognize this country if we don't stop them now.
===================================

Nice post gran, but it is not "pretty soon" for me...

The day in which I can no longer recognize the USA I spent the last 66 years growing up in, has long since arrived.

In most part due to the oldest, and most corrupt political party in America (the DumboCraphead Party), being helped out by a handful of RINO's like Specter.

LC

"I hope you get the word out to EVERY Pennsy voter!"

LC, believe me, I have no love for spector, but if sestak wins the dimwit primary, I WILL be in contact with the Toomey camp. I helped out with Kurt Weldon's campaign when sestak ran against him for the congressional seat and had lots of interesting stories. Unfortunately, the libturds were destined to win that year.

joe sestak is pure evil and I will put forth every ounce of effort in my body to stop this man.

Arlen only loyal to himself!
Arlen liked what the Republicans were doing (even under both Bushes) yet when the Chicago messiah comes along he thinks the Republicans are wrong. Arlen's only concern is for Arlen, not Pa or the USA just Arlen. He knew he had no chance to win the Republican Primary so his only choice was to change to Dem.--If he truely had principals, he could have followed Lieberman and run as an Independant-- but Spector knew that would not work in the Primary process, so he will do anything to keep himself in power--so sad-- but he made his decision's in the past to go against the people of Pa and the USA and now he has no party to call home--he is just renting it until a better offer comes along.

Ignominy
There could be no more fitting an end to the worthless career of this insipid politician than to switch parties to save his skin only to be tossed out on his åss in a primary.

He could end up his days as one of Rachel Maddow's biyatches, spewing brief opinions as a talking head while she grinds her figurative high heels into his throat. Or maybe we could just see or noear from him again.

Whatever.

Corndog PA.
I hope you get the word out to EVERY Pennsy voter!

I did not know that he was forced to resign. He is to the Navy what Wesley Clark is to the Army (Air Force?)...,an embarrassment.

What's the difference?
Sestak is as bad as Arlen. He's out for himself and totally tows the party line. Pat Toomey or Rick Santorum need to step up to the plate and give us a reason to go to the polls. Sestak voted for this horrendous health insurance bill this week. People: you need to know what this guy is about. Please read his voting record - educate yourself. Joe Sestak and the liberal wing of the democrat party are selling us out. Pretty soon we won't recognize this country if we don't stop them now.

Not libturd enough I guess?
Interesting...

Arlen was far too un-American to remain a Republican, but it now appears he may not be un-American enough to be a DemWitOCraphead??

Well what exactly are you Arlen?

For all us real Americans, our kids, and our grandkids see you as one of the three RINO POS who sold out their country.

Good riddance to bad rubbish!!

Birdman II, your math is off

"If I could speak to Arlan, I would say 2 words - bye bye."

According to joe biden, that's three word.

No one likes or respects a turncoat
Who will believe Arlan what ever he says? Getting voted into office by Republicans only to turn to the radiance of "The One" is no different than BHO promising anything to get elected and then breaking his promises. Thaat is to say, a liar by any party affiliation is still a liar.

If I could speak to Arlan, I would say 2 words - bye bye.

Invaluable real life input..
Thanks for the insight. I was confused by the navy background and your comment helped me understand the stituation.

Joe Sestak is a
self-serving egomaniac. Not only that, he is militarily incompetent and (as we used to refer to people like him in the navy) a "Screamer". Hopefully his opponent will be smart enough to ask old joe, "Why was he relieved of command as a three star admiral and forced to resign?" The man is a certifiable lunatic, which probably explains why he is a lib.

How do I know this to be true?
I worked for the idiot for a year while in the navy.

Since the economy will still be tanked a
The economy will still be tanked. The little o and all his little d's can't resist taxing taxing taxing taxing taxing taxing taxing taxing.
Citizens awareness of the goofiness of this congress is increasing everyday and the little o isn't going to help. Soon it's goodbye majority for the dims.

Sestak
What is the difference?

A retired Navy Admiral who a few years ago opened his offices to CAIR so they could have a place to hold a meeting. UGH!

As a congressman Sestak held the party line and mantra of "Bush lied, soldiers died".

Wow! What a stellar opponent for Spector.

Sestak is a career military man who is either clueless about Islamofascism,or puts himself and party before country.Watching Sestak as a talking head...,wherever he can get face time,I would say that..., it is the latter.

He is Pelosi's buddy in the Congress. He'll be Reid's buddy in the Senate.

Arlen would actually be better.

No matter who wins in PA
is most likely won't be republican.

John Kerry moment.

As a registered Democrat, First I will vote for Arlen Specter before I vote against him.

Democrats Are Tanking !

Republican candidates continue to lead on the latest edition of the Generic Congressional Ballot as Democrats fall to their lowest level of support among voters in recent years.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 40% would vote for their district’s Republican congressional candidate while 37% would choose the Democratic candidate.

Lonny
The real trick for the left will be keeping majorities in 2010. Watch the polls, they are already dropping and then wait until everyone realizes all their taxes are going through the roof. Can you say voters and hissy fit! Acorn cannot steal an election unless its close.

Toomey will be like Santorum
who lost by ONE MILLION VOTES. ONE MILLION, count 'em.

So, we get another Dem in PA, and you GOP types get to whine. Can the Dems get to 70 Senators, thanks to you who think Palin is the second coming of Reagan, who wouldn't not have hired Palin to sort his socks.

Benefits
of being a lifelong Republican are sometimes far and few between, however getting to watch this turncoat jacka@@ get eaten by his 'own' side is hilarious.

Pat Toomey Watches The Girls Fight !

“Congressman Sestak is a flagrant hypocrite in challenging my being a real Democrat when he did not register as a Democrat until 2006 just in time to run for Congress,” Mr. Specter said in a statement. “His lame excuse for avoiding party affiliation, because he was in the service, is undercut by his documented disinterest in the political process,” he said, citing records that show Mr. Sestak voted in just 12 out of 35 elections from 1971-2005.

“Arlen has decided to start running his ‘GOP negative style campaign’ against us!” Mr. Sestak said. He was a registered Independent during his 35-year naval career, he said, “because, like Generals Colin Powell and Wesley Clark - who were also registered as Independents, I believe it is important that military officers should be nonpartisan.”
