Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

It's in the works, the bill's in the hopper, the rails are greased. As long expected, the Democratic leadership in Congress has introduced its master plan to unionize American workers -- a plan that would do away with the bothersome little detail of having the workers vote on that decision. Vote, shmote. This ain't about democracy. It's about power. And how to seize it.

Ah, yes, the right to vote. Just a minor detail, though it used to be of some importance in a free country. I remember it well. But after this session of Congress, the secret ballot may be only a quaint relic of labor-management relations in this country.

Will the actual vote in Congress be just a formality? Given the Democrats' solid majority in both houses of Congress, is it all over but the shoutin'? Or is the debate just warming up?

Speak up now or forever hold your peace -- because once this new system goes into effect, some precious rights will be lost. The secret ballot would be the first of them, replaced by a card-check system that allows union organizers to browbeat workers into joining up. Those who declined to sign up would have to take a lonely stand in public, risking harassment. The worker's privacy -- his right to be left alone to make his decision -- would be gone.

But that's just for starters. Once the right to vote has been lost, the union installed, and a contract is to be negotiated, both labor and management would lose their right to bargain with each other once an arbitrary deadline had passed -- specifically, 120 days. After that, their differences would have to be submitted to arbitration.

This new, disimproved system would change the whole tempo, tone and substance of the negotiations as one side or the other tried to manipulate the new rules. This would be a new ballgame, and -- after 120 days -- the umpire would become one of the players.

In their native American ingenuity, no doubt both sides would come up with new and clever ways to avoid bargaining with each other freely. Those quaint days would be gone. For the clock would be running on their freedom to negotiate. And one side or the other would be tempted to run the clock out, or use the impending deadline to press the other to accept its terms. Take it or leave it -- to arbitration.

In a free society, neither labor nor management should be subject to such coercion. But this bill, with its 120-day deadline to reach an agreement or else, makes the old Taft-Hartley Act, with its 80-day cooling-off period before a major strike is called, seem almost mild.

The card-check bill was bad enough before, when it just deprived workers of their right to vote. But these additional provisions may be even worse. Pass this bill into law and the principle at the heart of collective bargaining -- the ability to negotiate free of pressure -- would be gone with the secret ballot.

This new system would drastically change the way labor and management relate to one another when it comes to settling their differences. Before, management could continue to negotiate until it had a deal it could live with, and the same went for the labor union. Now government would step in if it didn't think the company and the union were moving fast enough.

If and when this radical change becomes law, and the 120 days are past, it'll be up to government-appointed arbitrators to decide any disagreements between labor and management -- even though the arbitrators won't be the ones who have to live with their decision. That burden would fall on workers and managers. Government would make the decision, all we the people would have to do is abide by it.

In Italy in an earlier decade, this approach to labor-management relations, which gives the state the final say, was part of a larger system. That system had a name: fascism. Somewhere, Benito Mussolini is smiling.

Hey Greenberg
Cry me a River. I know what the Republicans
gave us. High time for a change. You could
have done it better. But enough wasn't enough.
You had to have more, and more, and more.

I hope enough ordinary folks
have the gumption to tell the would be union bosses that while they might have given their nod in a secret ballot, they will never ever sign one of these open cards.

Inquiry.
Funny stuff here, Paul Greenberg. You wrote, regarding government intervention, "The ability to negotiate free of pressure would be gone."

A worker being able to eat and pay his bills, and a firm being able to stay in business, is not pressure?

Pressure, schmessure. I've always expected better, from you, Mr. Greenberg.

No matter. As we are finding, voting by mobs doesn't mean much, anyway. And manipulation is now a high art, way beyond anything thought possible. The "What a piece of work is man..." of Shakespear's day is now almost gone.

The coming of State
The sadness is that this too, shall pass as we continue to move to a full Socialist way of life. The Messiah shall go down in history as the leader who changed our government that robbed us of all our freedoms. He wants his name, Barack HUSSEIN Obama, the son of a Muslim from Kenya, to be recorded 100 years from now to be on the lips of the 97% of the black voters, and their issue to speak with a whispered tone. And, of course, we must not forget all those over 40 white women who had climaxes dreaming of having sex with the ONE. Halaluyah baby.

here's a first hand scenario
I had a friend who was a shop steward in our union. When he stood up at a meeting and opposed something the union wanted in our new contract, he got taken for a ride by 2 dudes with no necks so that they could better 'explain their position".
When they dropped him off at the hall, he was reminded that "they didn't have to do that".
This is what will happen to people if we lose the secret ballot....it will happen all over this country if anyone opposes the "one". Never allow a camel to get his nose under the tent.
Never give up any freedom, no matter what..remember, someone fought for that freedom one way or the other and this bunch in DC is on a mission to destroy this country.

We need to rip this congress up by the roots next election to show these bums that they work for us, not the unions, not the recipient class or any other group who worked to elect this commie.
Scare the hell out of them, if they were worth anything they'd have real jobs like the rest of us.

Revolution
Why are these workers dumb enough to fall in line behind crime? Where is the good 'ole American backbone? I hope these union thugs visit my place of work. I have something to show them.

A union would kill
the small company I work for and that would be the end of about 50 jobs. Part of Obama's plan, no doubt - spread the pain.

They recently fired my good buddy, a former GM employee, not because he didn't have skill and knowledge, but because he just didn't take care of his job - late, frequently absent, and slipshod work habits. He would have been protected by a union, BUT the company would be less productive and competitive with him still there. Ironically, he was anti-union like me because he'd spent many years on the production line at GM, watching the union slugs gum up the works.

He and I had begun to form a strategy to intimidate any union thugs who show their faces around here, but I have to recruit someone else now. That may not be easy since we have so many green card holders who always come down on the side of something for nothing. Except the Iraqis I work with, who are really exceptional employees. A lot of the Mexicans, on the other hand are into the goodies for everyone mentality and some of them even look forward to being sent home for infractions like not showing up after not calling in.

Good potential dhimmicrats.

Chaplain at Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton resigns over ban on word 'God'
Ban on word 'God' at meetings has chilling effect, she says
By Howard Goodman | South Florida Sun-Sentinel
March 18, 2009
A chaplain at Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton has resigned, she says, over a ban on use of the words "God" or "Lord" in public settings.

Chaplains still speak freely of the Almighty in private sessions with patients or families but, the Rev. Mirta Signorelli said: "I can't do chaplain's work if I can't say 'God' — if I'm scripted."

Hospice CEO Paula Alderson said the ban on religious references applies only to the inspirational messages that chaplains deliver in staff meetings. The hospice remains fully comfortable with ministers, priests and rabbis offering religious counsel to the dying and grieving.

"I was sensitive to the fact that we don't impose religion on our staff, and that it is not appropriate in the context of a staff meeting to use certain phrases or 'God' or 'Holy Father,' because some of our staff don't believe at all," Alderson said.

Finally
A little light finally shines on Mr. Greenberg.

May he continue to grow in awareness.

Rivenburg
Card check insanity will get a hostile reception in the southwest, get physicaly pushy here & get shot. We are NOT eastern metros. We WILL toast thugs acting thugish.

Card Check Will Lead to Bankruptcy
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to predict the outcome of the new card check system:

1)Labor unions will aggressivley muscle into tens of thousands of small businesses, and make ludicruous wage demands.

2) Labor unions will run out the 120 clock to mandatory and binding government arbitration. They know that the government will be stacked with pro-union arbiters.

3) The government arbitrators will award the unions unsustainable wages and benefits.

4) Tens of thousands of businesses will be forced to shutter their doors and seek bankruptcy protection. Those jobs not lost will be shipped overseas.

5) Job losses will be in the millions, and will bring us unemployment numbers on a par with the depths of the Great Depression. 25% unemployment is not only thinkable, it is plausible.

Unions ruined the newspapers
in the 60s when NYC used to have 16.

They ruined steel, are bankrupting the auto industrty, and have made pub. ed. a joke.

Go to Phila. on the 18th of April for a tea party. Send the Big O a tea ban on April 1.
If you don't do something physical, the leeches in DC will never pay any attention to the *average Am. worker* that they blather about relentlessly.

TARGET
The first target of this will probably not be small companies but will be Walmart. Walmart will not go under but prices will rise to cover the added union costs. Their workforce will also be cut. Poor people will suffer the most. This will be an indirect tax on all people who shop at Walmart. But the dems will blame greedy Walmart.

TS
You are so right. If stores like Walmart become unionized it will certainly hurt the lower and middle class. We must remember the Over $250,000 people will survive. They will give up some of the extras they enjoy but they will still be able to buy food, pay electric bills, buy cars, etc. It is the guys making %50,000 a year that will rally suffer. Unions are not the answer to a better life. People will lose jobs and goods will be more expensive.

Power
Paul is correct. It is about power, raw power over others. Forced conscription into unions and union monopolies (hey, weren't business monopolies found to be bad a century ago? What aboiut union monopolies?)are simply methods for Democrats to create a one-party America. We are in the Second Civil War. Don't doubt it. And conservatives, those of us who believe in free enterprise, business, achievement, merit are losing. Losing our country.

This is another indication
of how corrupt our own government has become.

Any place where there is power to be had, you can find two groups at work. Organized crime and government. They are opposite sides of the same coin.

Good Article Mr. Greenburg!
But there is far more to this than just the unions forcing a vote. We are in the final stages of complete Socialist/Communist take over.

The individual vote of the American citizen means nothing now. Just look at all the voter fraud that took place during the presidential election. It's not only still going on, it's getting worse and much bolder! It's gotten to the point that the government does not even want to hear from the "People." They don't care what you think!

And now they they've installed Acorn to handle the census taking for Ovomit.

And those of you who think you still have a voice and will just vote the scum out. Had better take a closer look at Big Picture of what's going on around you. The Communist/Socialists have taken power and are not about to let the Constitution or the American citizen stand in their way of keeping that power!

The only way they will be driven out of power is just that. They will have to be "Driven" out by armed force if necessary!

A reminder and a quote by Joseph Stalin as he spoke of Communist take over of America.

"Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything."

Now, look what's happening to the corrupt vote count! It will come out "their way" No matter what you do or how you scream!

FIGHT THE TONY SOPRANO LAW
If you like what the unions have done to Detroit (UAW) or the public schools (teachers unions) or the airline industry, just wait till they get their slimy little hands on the thousands of small businesses that make this country work. They should change the name of this bill to the Tony Soprano law.

word to Ovomit and the democraps. if the single most pro-union and liberal politician of our times, George McGovern, says this bill is illegal and un-American, how are you going to get southern & western democrats to vote for it?

FDR, OBAMA & AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM
Excerpt from FDR and Barack Obama: American Exceptionalism Verses the United States of Mankind

"Obamanomics is the New Deal without FDR, as Reaganomics was FDR without the New Deal. And the New Deal minus FDR = political failure. Obama is no FDR, he lacks FDR's optimistic temperament, irresistible charms, political skills and genius for war. Obama’s rhetorical powers are miniscule compared to FDR’s. FDR was adroit at raising public morale and sustaining it through difficult times. He projected the image of a father figure, a great benevolent parent, and made you feel that he loved you, cared for you, would provide for your needs and lead you out of danger. FDR didn’t just feel your pain like an empathetic Bill Clinton, he took it away as if he were an opiate.

Power!!
Reading into this whole situation tells me that members of unions don't even like being in them due to the dues that they have to pay, with no benefits received.

Unions, due to tremendous growth economically in the country, have continued to dwindle in popularity and have been marginalized for years.

Hell, union members don't even support this bill.

If Card Check Passes...
and secret ballots are ended, any ancillary provisions like government intervention in contract negotiations will be absolutely irrelevant. With union thugs in charge of "encouraging" card certification, everything else will be moot because capitalism will be severely undermined. Remember the phrase, "Workers of the world unite."

This is another element in the BHO program to undermine and destabilize the American economy so as to permit his socialist-communist power grab. Some people are too dense to connnect the dots.

WAKE UP, AMERICA, OR DIE IN YOUR SLEEP!!

Do As We Say, Not As We Do

The Service Employees International Union, considered the most influential union in the nation, has notified the union that represents about 220 of its national field staff and organizers that 75 of them are being laid off. In return, the workers’ union, which goes by the somewhat postmodern name of the Union of Union Representatives, has filed unfair labor practices charges against SEIU with the National Labor Relations Board. The staff union’s leaders say that SEIU is engaging in the same kind of practices that some businesses use — laying off workers without proper notice, contracting out work to temp firms, banning union activities and reclassifying workers to reduce union numbers.

This reminds me of ACORN’s 1995 lawsuit to exempt them from paying minimum wage, while working on a ballot initiative to raise the minimum wage.

In 1995, ACORN sued the state of California, claiming that it should be exempted from the state minimum wage. The group realized the simple economic fact facing all employers: being forced to pay higher wages means that you must employ fewer workers. A legal brief filed by ACORN during the appeal of its lawsuit admits:

As acknowledged both by the trial court and California, the more that ACORN must pay each individual outreach worker—either because of minimum or overtime requirements—the fewer outreach workers it will be able to hire.
