Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

It costs $2600.00 to build one of these amazing little houses.

I am on a mission to honor Denise by trying to get at least ten of these houses built for her.

The way I see it, if “Food for the Poor” can be kind enough to build one house, I can reach out to my listeners and readers and try and repay their graciousness ten-fold.

If you would like to help me, please go to www.mikeonline.com and click on the “Food for the Poor” banner. If calling them directly would be more convenient, operators are ready at 1-866-433-HOPE. Any sized donation will help me fulfill my mission. My fantasy is that a number of churches or business leaders or even individuals who have been blessed in life will want to have an entire house built and donate the full amount for a residence.

But I know that’s probably being greedy.

If you can give 10, 50, 100 dollars, it will matter. Together, we can do this. And one day, I hope to know that my precious wife led to at least ten families -- maybe many more -- who are sheltered from the storms and live in warmth and safety in their own houses.

That would make her very, very happy.

Thank you.

Very sorry for your loss
I am very sorry for your loss.

I am also sorry to say I won't be making a donation for use in Jamaica or any other country except the U.S.A. The economy is terrible here, maybe you've noticed, and there is a tremendous amount of homelessness right here in our country.

There already is a lot of need here, and somehow I don't think the rest of the world is going to rush to provide aid to us the way we rushed to the sites of the tsunami and hurricanes all over.

Dr Douglas
Conservative voting record is explained by the fact that we don't think people are helped by setting them up to be lazy and dependent their whole lives. We choose candidates that recognize that government does just that, to the detriment of everyone who receives aid or has their income reduced through forced taxation.

Have you ever studied how much of our tax dollars that are designated for charity ever makes it to actual people? I have. Good example is the Literacy Council of my town. Government-grant of 200,000 yearly. The exec director is paid $50,000. The assistant is paid $35,000. The office staff is $25,000. Add another $25,000 for benefits. The building costs $20,000 a year, mortgage and utilities. $155,000 goes for staff and the building. That leaves $45,000 to educate people. They estimate they help 50 people a year using volunteer teachers at a cost of about $50 per class to the students.

My church has been doing the same thing for 60 years. We teach about 50 people a year (our best year was 80, but that was pre-Lit Council) completely free of charge and completely with volunteers, except for those times when our pastor steps in to sub and his salary comes from something else.

If my tax rates our lowered because the government no longer provides the services of the Lit Council, I will give more to my church and my church will spend that to help more people -- completely free of charge.

That's why we object to candidates that want to spend money on "charity". Not because we don't care, but because we recognize that government wastes money while truly non-profit organizations (as in volunteer) do not. Lower taxes means more people get helped.
