Success and Failure in Iraq

Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

-- During the Anbar Awakening, from 50,000 to 100,000 foot soldiers not only left the enemy, but also joined our side, contributing knowledge of the insurgency's inner workings.

-- Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, elected with support from Shiite extremists, went south to take on Iranian-backed militias in Basra -- establishing himself as a national, not just Shiite, leader.

-- And Iraq's Sunnis fully joined the political process, which now absorbs much of the energy that might otherwise spill into the streets.

None of these achievements is perfect or permanent. But foreign policy success is judged by comparative, not absolute, standards. The comparison here is to an American withdrawal two years ago -- which would have been Vietnam II, and worse. AQI would have controlled whole regions of Iraq -- it had already established a provisional government in Anbar -- gaining a base of operations against friends in the Middle East, against allies in Europe and against the United States. With Iran's help, Iraq's Shiites would have fought a bloody civil war against al-Qaeda. Sunni neighbors would have been tempted to intervene, leading to a regional war played out on Iraqi soil. Iraqi citizens might have been subjected to genocidal violence. And America would have failed -- not on a distant Asian battlefield like Vietnam -- but in the Middle East, a center of our global interests since World War II.

So what has been accomplished by all the sacrifice, patience and resources that Iraq has consumed? If Iraq succeeds -- if it can bear the weight of its own sovereignty -- it will be a historic advance. Jeffersonian democracy was never assumed or promised. But an Iraqi accommodation in which Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds find common purposes through democratic processes would be an example to the region, which is seeking new models of progress. And the development of a stable American ally in the Middle East that fights terrorism would be a tremendous geopolitical achievement. In spite of past debates, Obama should view this prospect not as a chore, but as an opportunity.

Even if Iraq falls back to the level of political mediocrity that surrounds it, the situation has changed from two years ago. If America had retreated then, it would have been a failure of our will and a failure of our military. But we did not fail. Our military adapted. Our leaders and country persevered. We have given the Iraqis what we owed them -- a decent chance at success, the only gift a liberator can give. Now, a failure would be sad and challenging -- but it would be their own.

The Past Is Prologue But - 2
In other words Obama is ruining the U.S. and us in anarchy, chaos and as a third world, despotic, evil dictator. He is destroying systematically the U.S. that he hates. Come on he ran as a racist, black supremacist on “hope for change” in the U.S. he hates because he hates himself due to his “exotic background.” Those are the words he used on p. 120 in an attempt to explain away his entire life up to time of publication of the Audacity of Hope. That title was taken from a “G-D America” Wright rant in the church that honors W.E.B. DuBois and Louis Farrakhan, who dubbed Obama the Messiah. Then Obama had the audacity to tell us when throwing Wright under the bus that he never heard any such thing while sitting in the church apparently deaf, blind and dumb, part of that time with Michelle and their precious, little girls.
If you have not read Obama’s bio books and the Obama/Biden Priority Plan at whitehouse.org you need to apologize again for your ignorance going to stupidity. You owe another apology since I know none of you can name and defend one thing, just one thing Obama has done good for the U.S. or us, you too, before, on or since 1/20/09.
While you are reading if you do please click on my name and read a more complete analysis of Obama, why we must get him out of the office to which he is a pretender and how we might be best able to do it.
Just for grins or something, like maybe revulsion, vomiting or nightmares, I suggest you Google Madeline Albright and look at “Image results for madeline albright” – the centerfold-type pic – most appropriate for Playboy or Penthouse - the Geriatric Set Editions or Weightlifters Monthly. After all she did brag she could leg press her own weight with those tree trunk, thunder thighs and NFL inside lineman calves of hers.

The Past Is Prologue But
Why is anyone here fretting over Powell as Bush’s SecState and Madeline Albright, Clinton’s SecState? Looks like you can’t break away from the past, put aside “childish things” as Obama asked all to do near the time of his inauguration.
Let’s keep it real and current. Let’s look to the future. Let’s do what Obama asked, “come together in bipartisan ways and help [him] lead [this great nation of ours forward in this 21st Century, unfortunately in this present Error of Obamanation.
Let’s talk about Obama and his SecState, Hillary, the one that is failing with him in international relations, diplomacy and warfare around the world – Afghanistan, Canada, China, Communist Cuba, Honduras, Israel, Iraq, Mexico, North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, Venezuela, Somalia, elsewhere in Africa, Asia, Central and South America, Great Britain, Europe and the Middle East. If I left out any country or region where Obama and Hillary have failed I apologize. If I need to write here with the character limitation on Townhall.com posts the details of his failures overseas and domestically you need to apologize for your ignorance going to stupidity.
Hillary’s “failures” are not so much hers as Obama’s. He has isolated her at Foggy Bottom like he has exiled Bill to ambassador to Haiti to shut him up. He did so by threats and use of special envoys even before he was elected and continues to do so.
This is in similar fashion to his appointment of more czars than in Russia, the Soviet Union or anywhere else in the world ever in history. Furthermore in yet another violation of the Constitution that he has trashed totally the czars report only to Obama. They may not be compelled even to appear before Congress, our elected, once representatives. (cont.)
