Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

"How long do you think it will take for the press to turn on Obama?" a friend asked.

"Eight years, if he's in that long," I told him. "Doesn't matter what happens. Either they'll blame Bush or 'circumstances beyond Obama's control' while writing articles about how heroically Obama handles them." It's already started.

Take President-elect Barack Obama's campaign narrative: a) Bush/McCain deregulation created our problems; b) the policies of President Clinton brought success and shared prosperity, c) President Bush's tax cuts unfairly enriched the rich, d) Obama intends to end posthaste the Iraq war, which "never should have been authorized and never should have been waged," and e) through Gitmo/unlawful wiretaps/illegal interrogation procedures, Bush "shredded" the Constitution.

Let's review.

Ever heard of the Glass-Steagall Act? President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, whose New Deal policies Obama wants to mirror, signed it into law to prevent commercial banks from engaging in investment banking. Investment banking, the kind of work done by Wall Street titans such as Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns, raises money to package and sell securities such as the now-discredited "toxic" mortgage and mortgage-backed derivatives. Clinton, with the backing of many Republicans, allowed the banking/investment wall to fall by signing the 1999 Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, repealing a large part of the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933. This led to the business model of the now-troubled and recently bailed-out Citigroup, a model impossible but for the repeal of Glass-Steagall.

The Clinton administration, during its waning days, published a paper called "The Clinton Presidency: Historic Economic Growth." It listed among its achievements "Modernizing for the New Economy through Technology and Consensus Deregulation."

Clinton denies -- correctly -- that his deregulation policies caused the current financial meltdown. "I don't see that signing that bill had anything to do with the current crisis," he said. "Indeed, one of the things that has helped stabilize the current situation as much as it has is the purchase of Merrill Lynch by Bank of America, which was much smoother than it would have been if I hadn't signed that bill." Blaming deregulation on the financial crisis ignores a whole chain of events, most notably the decline in housing values. But that didn't stop candidate Obama from screaming "deregulation," even though Clinton deregulated the financial sector more than did Bush.

Candidate Obama maligned the Bush tax cuts for benefiting the rich. But President-elect Obama now intends to retain all the tax cuts, keeping the lower rates on the "rich" until they expire in 2011 -- a far cry from his campaign promises.

What about Bush's "stupid" Iraq war?

Obama now wants Bush's secretary of defense, Robert Gates, to stay. Huh? Gates supported the successful surge and the change in counterinsurgent strategy. Sen. Obama opposed the surge, attempted to stop it, and predicted failure. Candidate Obama promised to have combat troops out within a year or 16 months of his administration, but President Bush and the Iraqi government now tentatively agree to have all troops out by 2011, a timetable unfathomable but for Bush's courageous and ultimately successful decision to surge.

What about the Guantanamo Bay detainees, the "evil" interrogation techniques and "unlawful" wiretaps?

Obama -- actually faced with governing -- seems now to understand the complex legal questions Bush grappled with. Gitmo contains some really, really bad people, and Obama's security advisers now appreciate the complex legal and logistical problems. Where to move the detainees? Moving them onto American soil creates a possible target for terror attacks. And what legal rights and procedures apply in moving the detainees to America? As for the Bush surveillance program -- which allegedly "shredded" the Constitution -- Team Obama signals an intention to retain many, if not most, of these "dreaded" policies.

Eric Holder, Obama's choice for attorney general, served as deputy attorney general in the Clinton administration. He agreed with Bush on a very important policy -- one opposed by liberal icons like Al Gore. Holder, in a 2002 interview, agreed that terrorists must be interrogated so we can learn information on their cells or future plans, and that the Geneva Conventions limited the amount of information interrogators could get. Clearly they were not prisoners of war, said Holder, and were, therefore, not covered by the protections of the Geneva Conventions. However, argued Holder, if we want our own prisoners treated well, we should treat the detainees very humanely and in a manner consistent with the Geneva Conventions -- a position that Bush ultimately came to.

So where does this leave us?

Bush wasn't so evil after all. And running for and governing as president are two different things. But don't expect the Obama-loving media to notice or care.

Roman law?
Wouldn't it be wonderful if all politicians would have to answer to all their broken promices. The Romans had something like that only it was with their own piers in the senate.

If Obama would have to answer at the end of the first year why he didn't do what he promised he would, it might make for ome interesting commentary.

Reid,Pelosi,Duffis Barney,Dodd, Maxine Walters and any other person who was in on the Fannie and Freddie mess should be made to testify under oath. Most of all they should be removed from their from office.Pelosi's rant on the floor of Congress, why the Republicans didn't answer the charges she made is beyond my comprehension. I am so sick and tired of hearing about the 8 failed years of the Bush Admistration. The figures supplied by the IRS told a different story.

UNTOUCHABLE OBAMA
BLAME FOR THIS CURRENT ECONOMIC CRISIS IS TO BE SPREAD AROUND AND THE MEDIA WILL KEEP PRES.BUSH NAME IN THE NEWS AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.THE ONLY THING THAT WILL UPSET THE MEDIA IS NO TAXES ON THE TOP 5% OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

Amen, Mr. Elder
Thanks for a great article that is right on the mark!!!!

mountain rose
Is there any hope that the American people will come to their senses and shake off the veil of lies that the Left has so deftly spun over their eyes? One can only hope that this will happen before the radicals make this country unrecognizable.

A GREAT post, mr! I agree with your every word!! May we somehow survive the next four years and become a better nation once the citizens' eyes have been opened...hopefully before it is too late.

Elvis - I think you have this one wrong.
WHO NOMINATED MC CAIN ? THE IDIOT VOTERS OF THE GOP!

The News Media and the Democrat Party saw to it that John McCain won the New Hampshire primary. At that time, he was all but burnt toast...and they brought him back to life with their busloads of Massachusetts liberals voting in New Hampshire!

The "idiot voters of the GOP" all held their/our respective noses and voted for him in opposition to a vote for Obama! Having Sarah Palin on the ticket helped tremendously, but we were disillusioned - we KNEW McCain was not a winning candidate...and so did the media and the Democrats!

Let's see what happens now in this period of 'change' - change back to the Clinton Administration that is! I should imagine Democrats might be questioning their soundness of mind in voting this instrument of 'change' into office. An interesting four years await us.

Media Honeymoon? About Two Weeks
Look, the news media makes money on what they report on, now that the election is over all the "no-brainers" that got interested in the news during the election will go back to watching ET, American Idol, etc. Most viewers are going to get very bored listening to how wonderful the new administration is. And to make money and get the ratings, the main stream news media (which is a dinosaur) is going to have to go back to what they are supposed to be doing. That is criticizing the current Administration, Congress, and Senate. If they don't, FOX News will dominated and they'll fade into the sunset. Besides the right wing press is meaner then a junk yard dog and have always done better on offense then defense. MSNBC, NY Times, LA Times, CBS, ABC, NBC have been on the offense for so long against the Bush Administration, they're going to have to learn how to go back on defense, and FOX News will eat their lunch (which they're already doing).

parenting.
It's kind of like parenting. You always swear that you'd NEVER do what your parents did to you. You would die before you said the things they said or made the same rules or wore those hideous clothes. But when you pop out a few kiddos and suddenly its your turn to be mommy dearest, you say and do ALL the things you swore you would never do. Why? Because you have no clue what it's like to parent, the challenges and pressure you face, until you are a parent. And I bet Obama is feeling many of those emotions right now. His illuminati advisors are shacking him up with seasoned "parenting experts" from previous administrations to teach him that no matter how big you talk, when you're changing the diapers of a screaming country, you're going to want to enforce every last one of your parents' rules.

THERE HAS BEEN
a change already! Psssst! You missed it?!
AWWW SHUCKS,TOO BAD!

Another Point About Coal
Ron writes:

"Did you hear Obama say that he intends to shut down the coal industry? He presented it as just stopping new coal-fired power plants from being built. There is a lot more to coal than that."

Brilliant post, Ron!

But one point you missed is the fact that without coal to manufacture all those I-beams, re-bars, etc., Obonzo won't have the materials to "rebuild" all the "crumbling infrastructure" he's been moaning and groaning about.

So much for his "2.5 million new jobs." Never mind the obvious fact that his tax and regulatory policies alone are going to destroy three times as many!

EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM COMPETES WITH MEDIA!
Dear Fellow Americans,

Please feel relieved! The hundreds of billions of dollars that the media spends to indoctrinate our children will finally be given to the educational system!

This is great news! Now, our educational system can finally compete with hundreds of billions of dollars in advertising, false news reporting and lousy perverted porn TV!

THEN I WOKE UP!

WAKE UP TOO!

CAN YOU BELIEVE OBAMA?
Obama takes any side and all sides of most issues and makes contradictory statements to different audiences. He seems like a weather vane swinging in the wind--he does not seem to have many core beliefs. In his own video--"WORDS--JUST WORDS"--As Shakespeare said, "All sound and fury--signifying nothing!"
***
The Left Wing Media (not MSM) has flown excellent "air cover" for him during the primary and general elections. They will continue to unabashedly do so for the next 4 or 8 years since they are 90 percent liberal. The LWM was openly supporting him--the All Barack Channel, the New Barack Channel, Continuous Barack Socialist channel, etc. Not to mention the New York Barack-Times and other newspapers.
***
The "SarahCuda" never got honest reporting--and even Hillary Clinton noticed the "Obama Effect" during the primary. No teflon is needed--no heat is ever applied to the Messiah.

Obama's change?????
Congratulations to those that are in love with Barack Husein Obama, who promised a real change and never described what was the change coming. Well, now you got a change and well deserved, so don't complain about it. It's the third administration of Bill Clinton, but with the difference is: Obama is in Bill's seat and maybe Monica Lowinsky will be getting a job at the white House too, so the change is completed! Von Voyage, enjoy the change you were waiting for and promised by Senator Obama in the campaign!

Neal: on socialism
so tell me what you think of Republican Prez Bush's $700 BILLION Bush wall street bailout
with more to come possibly for the u.s. auto industry using u.s. taxpayers money and government overseeing the process.

I would say that if anyone has a SOCIALIST agenda it for sure is the Republicans without a doubt.

Baloney--flawed reality
Americans want a collaborative government. We're tired and bored with the same old crap....and the priorities of both parties.

We want a President who can guide us on a logical path--support that path in the media so we understand--and pressure our reluctant and beholding congress--to do the mandate of the people.

If Obama--or any future President fails to meet those expectations--and they are in deep trouble.

Obama's election is due to a change in the American temperament--and a desire for a truly open Executive Administratin--who consistently ensure the average American is included in "every" deal.

Irish Eyes Do Deceive..
Irish Eyes states:

"the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom -- Lucifer." Or to our Democratic Congressional leaders, he’s just known as Daddy."

You know I have to think the election of Dem Prez elect Barack H. Obama has just about driven
Repubs/Cons absolutely NUTS... what this rightwing lugnut is saying in no uncertain terms is that Democrats and their leaders worship the Devil. without saying this is patently absurd.

Then he goes on to say that
Repub prez George W. Bush is modern day Jesus
Christ in a Armani Suit cowboy hats and boots who was crucifed by democrats as if he is totally unresponsible for his own failings and inept performance while he has served the last eight years...

this is really some very sick rhetoric that comes from unstable minds on the right and it's a good think that anonymous sights like TH are around because a lot of these right wing kooks are probably people you see on a regular basis without knowing what they are actually thinking.

Maggie, IN; John, FL; Go Cavs!, OH
I do not believe that Obama will, himself, immediately run to the “Left” and begin his Socialist agenda. That would alienate a majority of Americans, as well as some of those in his own party. Beyond his projections and deceptions, are the consequences which he plans to avoid? With Socialist policies now part of and in many ways the centerpiece of the Democratic Party disguised as “Political and Economic Justice” and “Investments in our Infrastructure and People”; along with the deaf, dumb, and blind media, Obama will watch as his cronies slowly begin his march to the “Left” and “Socialism”. Some of his supporters, formerly the logical and rational, will be first in line of deceived disappointers expressing remorse. They will awaken from the dream of all the good feelings that attracted them to Obama and face the hard realities of the Socialist agenda they enabled.

Look at what they did
You know I’ve would’ve thought that Bush would have learned from his father’s mistake of trusting the Democrats to “do the right thing” and they’ve gotten the opportunity to use him as a punching bag, and have fallen into step with Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals, but his first quote in the book he pays homage to the first radical in his eyes, the devil. Here is his comments "Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins -- or which is which), the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom -- Lucifer." Or to our Democratic Congressional leaders, he’s just known as Daddy. Lie all you can, but just don’t get caught, if you get caught, deny, deny and deny. If proof is shown claim that it’s tainted and inadequate. It all sounds so familiar, where have I heard this before? Gee, its sounds like the Bill Clinton administration, don’t it?

Step #5, Ridicule. This has been their most useful tool in the daily Bush bashing. Since prior to putting his hand on the bible to take the oath of office, the remarks generated by the democrats in Congress and the left-wing media the insults came out in full force. They showed America or at least conservatives and Republicans they were really bad losers who felt it was their duty to remind us, everyday the mistake we made when we elected George Bush to be our President. They don’t want to give him credit for anything, they’ve blamed him for everything that’s wrong in the world and if they could they would blame him for the crucifixion of Christ. But no one in the media is able to Photoshop his image into the picture of the cructifixation wearing a modern day Armani suit, cowboy hat and boots. Those items came much later

Phylo Says
"Bush has nearly destroyed this country in the eight years he's been in office. Our foreign policy is a failure. We are at an all-time low in popularity around the world. Even our allies hate us"

Who? I am so sick of hearing this line of BS. Tell me which of our allies hate us.

This is what you should recognize as a complete lie. Tell us who Phylo. You've claimed that others say things that would come out of Limbaughs mouth but here you are touting the same old Liberal lies. You won the election so you don't need to lie anymore. And O has apparentley found out, when you get the keys to the White House you learn a lot more than the average citizen does.

Phylo says
"We invaded Iraq because we wanted bases there to deter Iran from attacking Israel, and because we wanted to ensure a steady supply of oil for the oil companies."

Word on the street says we're out of there in 2011. The above quote is what you call a lie phylo. Either you have made this up or your willing to believe anything you might hear. The nature of the war in Iraq has changed while you were sleeping.

True Parrot.
Lets be honest here. The Democrats will be running the country not President Obama. The Dems figured out early on this was their year no matter who ran. They did not want Hillary because if they get Hillary they also get Bill. So the play of the century is a Black super smart, good looking Black. They were right. The media loved it, and the country loved it even more. Obama will be nothing more than a figure head who will dance the dance. Larry has it right. The Dems will blame Bush for anything that happens over the next four to eight years. Yes, I said eight years. No question the Dems will rule for the next eight years. Be prepared for massive spending and stimulus. Deficit? What deficit? Bush created the problem, and we are trying to solve it. The Democrats are wonderful, and the Republicans do not care about the American people. SHOW ME THE MONEY. Good luck.

Obama's Ego
Someone above commented on our President-elect's ego. Did you happen to catch the headliner in People magazine where Obama says "I think I'm a pretty cool dad". Not, 'My daughters think I'm a pretty cool dad'. This guy has really absorbed the self-esteem movement to his core

If he swings hard left
they'll keep up the fan-fare,if he stays moderate they'll burn his butt.

KEEP THE CHANGE...EXCELLENT !
YOUR COMMENTS FIT PERFECTLY!
And what about Barney Frank running a whore
house for homosexuals in his residence !?
But did the GOP bam him big time? NO! They casually whispered it.. mumble, mumble, etc.
But when that flaky Senator from Idaho played silly dilly in the mens room ,boy, the media
was explosive ! And when that goofy GOP congressman from Fla.(?) communicated his gay stuff to young men the media went bonkers!
the real enemy is the Media and many of the
GOP !

CaptainSpaulding...

You claim you have read Obama’s books and think he is a pragmatist. However, I too have read his books; however, I do not think he is a pragmatist. Pragmatism is a philosophical movement that includes those who claim that an ideology or proposition is true if it works satisfactorily, that the meaning of a proposition is to be found in the practical consequences of accepting it, and that unpractical ideas are to be rejected.

Pragmatism may be presented as a way of clarifying (and in some cases dissolving) intractable metaphysical and epistemological disputes. According to the down-to-earth pragmatist, bickering metaphysicians should get in the habit of posing the following question: “What concrete practical difference would it make if my theory were true and its rival(s) false?” Where there is no such difference, there is no genuine (that is, non-verbal) disagreement, and hence no genuine problem. Yet, with me, Obama has a major problem; I do not know exactly what his beliefs are…what are his values…beliefs founded on, other than Socialism/Marxism.

For the most part, pragmatists have thought of themselves as reforming the tradition of empiricism—though some have gone further and recommended that tradition’s abolition. As this difference of opinion suggests, pragmatists do not vote en bloc. There is no such thing as the pragmatist party-line: not only have pragmatists taken different views on major issues (for example, truth, realism, skepticism, perception, justification, realism, conceptual schemes, the function of philosophy, etc.), they have also disagreed about what the major issues are. While such diversity may seem commendably in keeping with pragmatism’s professed commitment to pluralism, detractors have urged it only goes to show that pragmatism stands for little or nothing in particular. This gives rise to a question as awkward as it is unavoidable—namely, how useful is the term “pragmatism”? That question is wide open.

THAT, was excellent. It sort of sums up what the lefties that come here are just NOT hearing.

ALL politicians in the US House and Senate are to blame for the current crisis. Social engineering goes against human nature but it is, at the heart of their ideology.

Both Presidents Bush and Sen McCain have really let us down. We have been honest in our criticism of them. Conservatism has really only been dabbled with and discussed. It has never really been implemented.

It is that good vs evil that you described that is the constant struggle. We think that we are good and, usually, try to refrain from calling the left evil. Then, obviously good men and women like GW and McCain and Palin are seen as, and called, evil by every left wing hack put up by the dinosaur MSM all day every day and we overreact in response sometimes. Meanwhile, the truly evil Barney Frank is given a pass after really arranging the meltdown. It is much like how the MSM treated our fighting forces during Vietnam. An American tragedy and a total disgrace. It is infuriating.

LT. Spauling
You seemed to have missed my point entirely. My favorite book is Inside American Education by Thomas Sowell. It describes accurately how people like you and your Messiah emerge from government schools believing in Utopia while guys like Dr Sowell came from Harlem in rough times and rough neighborhoods to understand reality and free markets.

If we polled how many books (especially non fiction) are read by conservatives vs. liberals, It would be 2-1 or better I am sure. Why else woould lefty store managers put every right wing book in the cooking section and kids sections? Childish behavior is what best describes those still believing in Utopia. Be a grown up for crying out loud. The YouTube, if you went and looked shows Charlie and Tommy the Commie agreeing that they have NO IDEA which books your savior reads. THAT was my point. Do you know which books HE reads, by chance?

I'll agree that the current situation has forced him to be more pragmatic than we thought that he would be. For now at least. Hell, he is more conservative than GW at first glance. If he keeps it up, I will be proud of him and support him. I just think that the con is continuing and the Utopian vision will re-ermerge if the economy can rebound. And the market is NOT responding well to his election. look at the drop since the election. Biggest post election drop EVER. Don't look at a weeks worth of incomplete data please.

Captain S
We already learned awhile back that Obama's did not write his own books. Have you been asleep?......your Kool-aid is spiked!

Obama had his big mouth open while the Stocks were dropping 40%. In fact his mouth runs much faster than his brain.

Al(internet)Gore, along with Obama,Barney and Dodd and his Greeners got the gas price up for political reasons.....and here we are...they aren't worth a bottle of cold p%%s.

Books and Keep the Change
It's ironic that I ask if you read books, and you respond by pointing me to YouTube. I meant actual books...with pages.
I don't know what books anybody has read, but if you are implying that Obama didn't write his own books, then you are either disingenuous or deliberately obtuse. No one has ever suggested that Dreams from my Father was written by anyone other than Obama. He was a few years out of law school when it was written and hardly in a position to pay a ghostwriter (unlike most political memoirs).
So back to my original point. Instead of running around terrified that the sky is falling, just take a deep breath. The man is a pragmatist, and has repeatedly quoted Abraham Lincoln as his inspiration. Some radical!
Most thinking conservatives recognize this. And every time he opens his mouth, please note that the financial markets go UP.

BOYCOTT
Boycott ABC.....do it TODAY.

Refuse to watch ANY program on ABC & maybe get fair treatment from others...if not shut them off.
It is time for us to tell them to shape up or we will take the microphone & cameras from them.

Phylo out…

Can we be so blinded by a tunnel-vision ideology, that we are trapped in each his’ or her’ entrenched positions, too proud to admit our weaknesses, too closed in our minds to appraise the evidence and make sound, unbiased and just decisions? Politics often resonates in polarities, but today the polarities are infused with fanatical loathing that distorts everything, enabling ethical preening. Hatred becomes the handmaiden of illogical argument and impairs both judgment and the pursuit of creative solutions. It clouds our humanity. The interplay of good and evil isn't always as clear as it could be and is often clouded by an intellectual arrogance that keeps otherwise intelligent men and women from seeing what's right and what’s wrong.

In reality…hatred and corruption has been and seems like it will always be with us. The struggle of GOOD verse EVIL will exist until hatred has given way to a universal understanding of why people want to be free and respect for all living things.

There is a God and he wants us to evolve, but endure what living is about. The evolutionary process is not easy and unbearably slow. Though the wisdom of God; we have been given two choices “good and evil” to “enjoy and endure”. From the “original sin”, throughout the generations to the present day, “good and evil” have been a continuous struggle with neither one completely conquering the other. When the day does come, that one shall overcome the other, will be the beginning and the end. If “GOOD” triumphs; the beginning of “Heaven on Earth” and the end to hatred and all wars. If “EVIL” triumphs; the beginning of the bedlam we all fear and the end of truth, justice, and liberty; and quite possibly life as we know it.

As a veteran of Vietnam I assure you I understand WAR…the cruse of mankind. In wars, everybody is a loser.

I am not a big fan of today’s politicians, no matter what flavor they claim to be…as per the above.

I liked your response to Captain Spaulding. I enjoy reading the insults hurled by these dim-witted Liberals. They are the ones who are incapable of reading and understanding books, yet they believe themselves to be 'elite.' Isn't this a joke!

Liberals are stupid enough to vote for someone who has, at best, a checkered past; someone who would be unable to pass a background check to be employed as a baggage handler at an airport. They voted for a guy they know absolutely nothing about, someone who has absolutely no experience at doing anything except, perhaps, fist bumps with his snarling wife or smoking dope. They voted for a man who is contemptuous of this nation, its citizens, and members of the military. They voted for a man who wants to create a 'security force' comprised of inner city thugs with the financing, strength, and the size of the military to provide 'homeland security.' Can you say Adolph Hitler? Sure you can. No one is even certain that Obama is a natural-born American citizen because he has been busy having his birth records sealed. The news media will never tell the truth about him because they are congenital liars; besides that, he is a media creation.

This nation has some incredibly stupid people; thank God the rest of us are armed and we are smarter than they are.

Yes, we read books. That is why we are worried. If you YouTube the Charlie Rose and Tom Brokaw (paid political NBC hack) video about what they do not know about BO, because they never looked into it, you will know why we are worried. Even the lame PBS, MSLSD, and MSM and you hack followers have no idea the books that HE has read. Except for the ones he claims to have written. Those are enough for us. He is a commie and so are you.

Tune MSM Out
.

Obama will fall
Despite the media's best effort at electing Obama the public will finally get fed up with a megalomaniac who has to relie on 3,000 advisors and never takes responsibility or blame for anything.

Obama's ego is way over the top. That fake seal he created earlier and this one with "office of president elect" is disgraceful and evidence that this elitist is fawing over himself. Eventually the average American will come to the conclusion that they don't need a know-nothing president on an ego trip.

One final note on Teflon
Reagan was called the Teflon President because none of the bs the liberal media threw at him stuck. Obama doesn't need teflon because the only thing the media is throwing at him is hugs and kisses.

Glass-Steagall is the key
Dear Larry:

Your article was right in all respects except for the impact of Grahm-Leach-Bliley. The Glass-Steagall Act had safe guarded our banking system for 65 years. It is no coincidence that the banking system melted down nine years after Glass-Steagall was repealed.

Of course Clinton is going to deny a relationship between his actions to repeal Glass-Steagall and the meltdown. But, Bank of America would not have had to buy Merrill Lynch were it not for Clinton's actions to begin with.

In 1999, Clinton Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin quipped that Citi Group CEO Sandy Weill had bought our government, after Weill had spread around enough cash to get Glass-Steagall repealed.

Rubin then left Treasury and joined Weill in Citi's new Investment Banking operation, as its managing partner. Rubin's group then helped Enron with fraudulent loans that hastened the bankruptcy of that company. Citi would not have been allowed to make the fraudulent loans under Glass-Steagall. Citi was fined $330 million for its role in the Enron fiasco.

But Enron was only the beginning of Big Bank greed that systematically began engaging in risky financial transactions that proved lucrative in an up economy, but posed enormous threats in a down economy.

As we have now learned, allowing banks to engage in the types of practices that Glass-Steagall had previously prohibited has been a disaster of epic proportions. We are within a hair's breadth of another Great Depression.

Excusing Clinton for his role in this meltdown is not helpful. Nor is denying the truth. Unless we re-enact banking safeguards, we are just throwing tax payer money down a rat hole with the banking bailout.

There is good reason to make sure our banks operate in a financially stable and prudent
manner. One would think that is painfully obvious now.

You Silly Right Wingers
It's quite a chuckle to hear the political right running in circles like their hair was on fire...
Half of you convinced that the sky is falling because BHO is going to have terrorists sleeping in the Lincoln bedroom, and the other half warning that he's not going to change anything because he's hiring old Clintonistas.
Here's a suggestion: why not wait and see what he actually does. Anyone who's read his books would know that the guy is a pragmatist.
You do read books, don't you?

Question: How do you get someone who is ignorant of the truth to learn the truth?

Here's how it works.
I heard a woman call a radio show on Wednesday. The market, she said, has gone up 1000 points since Obama was elected. But first it went down 4000 points the host said. That was a hangover from Bush she explained. If a non-professional can do it that well I am sure professional B*llsh... I mean Newscasters can do it better.

Not teflon, silicone
Yes, the stuff that looks like a boob, feels like a boob, bounces like a boob. The silicone president. Is something a result of Obama's doing? Easy to tell. Is it a good thing? Then it is because of Obama. Bad thing? Because of Bush. Or in spite of Obama. Pretty simple. Now you try it.

Spin, spin, spin

Yes, the historical revisionists are already at it: reframing everything to make the Lefties look like brilliant statesmen (persons?) and Republicans to look like bumbling idiots.

They are not content with winning. They fear the charisma of Sarah Palin so much, they continue to bash her by attributing the bad impersonations of Tina Friggin' Fey to our wonderful Sarah.

But this is nothing new: it started 8 years ago with the out-and-out lie that President Bush stole the election from Gore the Bore. Then, after 9/11, they were so distraught at the unprecidented approval ratings that the new President enjoyed, they immediately set out in a massive conspiracy of false talking points to ruin his reputation and insure that they would regain power.

Is there any hope that the American people will come to their senses and shake off the veil of lies that the Left has so deftly spun over their eyes? One can only hope that this will happen before the radicals make this country unrecognizable.

press will be loath to turn on Obama
The MSM will not want to turn on Obama because he is liberal like they... they only turned on Slick Willie because he let Little Bill out to play with Monica and then got caught in huge lies to America, but they turned only because they were forced to... the media will slay their young for ratings. They would have relished turning on Presidente Jorge for such transgressions.

Close Our Borders and Protect U.S.
India's under attack and so are Americans, Jews and Britons today. Recently, I was walking out of a mall in Orange County and I was shocked to see three people about 6' tall wearing all black from head to toe and I could only see their eyes. It was shocking and frightening and they were 100% unidentifable and my mind immediately flashed back to the terrorist Islamic radical videos of those dressed in the same manner who are suicide bombers holding swords about to behead American citizens and I immediately thought they were going to blow up themselves and the mall.
It is mind boggling after the cowardly murderous attacks against Americans and Britons and Jews in India that our borders are wide open and illegals welcomed even by Obama who intends to give them drivers licenses knowing that the 911 terrorists had tons of illegal drivers licenses while living in the U.S.
How many more Americans and other citizens must die before our government closes our borders and makes it more difficult to get into our country with stricter immigration laws and background checks after radical Islamics declared war on us at 911, not just Mexico, because Mexicans just want to work, but by those who take on Spanish surnames and walk across the borders with fake IDs to do us harm?

When federal entitlements fail,
and centralized government, as well as Wall Street greed deflates other pensions and savings, millions of desperate oldsters with dwindling Social Security and Medicare funds will descend on their over taxed kids like a gray tidal wave. Won't that be a couple of P.O.'d voting blocs?
When the New York Times editorial board's parents plead their way into their spare bedrooms, who will get the blame? Won't be Bush!

I agree but...
Larry, I agree with your points but I have to take issue on interrogation. Where are there any US prisioners of war in the Middle East. There have been captures that is true, but all taken have been executed in the most barbaric ways possible. Please, I have no concerns about what is done to terrorists. I am very happy for interrogators to do what they have to get the information that will save the lives of other people. Please don't peddle the line to me that they deserve humane treatment or that this wil affect the way US solddiers are treated. It is a nonsense argument.

Ron
So, what is your point? Committed lefty crazies like Obummer don't care about industry. Besides, you are not supposed to examine the end results. Just their noble, ridiculously naive intentions.

coal

Did you hear Obama say that he intends to shut down the coal industry? He presented it as just stopping new coal-fired power plants from being built. There is a lot more to coal than that. This move will shut down the iron and steel industries and every industry that uses iron and steel.
Coal is used to make iron ore into iron the metal.
Coal is used to heat pig iron to form it.
Coal is roasted to make it into coke.
Coke is used to convert iron the metal into steel the metal.
Coal is used to form steel ingots into shapes like I-beams.
Steel is made into parts like nuts and bolts and angles, rebars, etc.
Reinforcing bars are needed for reinforced concrete.
Steel parts are made into machines such as lathes, harvesters, etc.
Shutting down coal would put us into the status from before fire was discovered. Fire causes carbon.
When these industries go out of business, they will no longer pay the many taxes they now pay, nor the employees’ income taxes, nor the new taxes that put them out of business.

More to the point, welcome to the bush 3rd term. More of the same and it won't be good. Wait until you see tourism in MN if that hack (your mistress) steals 150 more votes.

a shoe in...
Yes, I'm afraid I have to agree, even when he was hanging out with Bill Scares and Rev. Wrong
it didn't seem to make any difference.

Larry, You're Facts Are Accurate
If the American people didn't care that a man who refused to produce a birth certificate as proof of citizenship in a court of law and had it sealed and ignores the cries of millions of Americans to produce and lawyers, then why should he or the liberals care what anyone thinks about leaving the borders open or passing out driver's licenses to millions of illegal aliens even knowing that the terrorists involved in 911 had tons of illegal driver's licenses while they lived in the United States and attended our schools and enjoyed the freedom of our country? The liberals and the media don't care if he's possibly a illegal alien at the steering wheel and hasn't much experience in international military operations and opposed Bush's policies that protected us, but only blames him for the costs to protect us and keep the blood on their soil rather than our soil. Millions of Americans don't even get it when they're told that radicals just attacked Westerners and India and killed them and took them hostage and they are threatening to do the same in the U.S. They don't get it that the Islamic radicals have set up charitable groups according to the smaller news outlets and are strategizing and building up their funds to take over this great country like they did in the UK and the Netherlands and Africa where the people are now tortured, enslaved, and have little freedom if any and live in fear. Thank you President Bush for standing up for the welfare and safety of the American people even though so many turned on you because they don't understand that war was declared upon the U.S. on 911 and that we are at war but have kept it on their soil, so far.

Several thoughts:
(1) To worship: To regard with ardent or adoring esteem or devotion. The MSM won't ever blame their deity, Obama, for anything.

(2) Today, I'm very thankful for Ronald Reagan. Watch his great speech, "A Time For Choosing," here:

(3) I hope to be able to be thankful next year that Congressional RINOs started standing for Reagan Conservative values:

Tacky
Is it just me, or doesn't anyone else find tacky the podium P.E. Obama is using? Glad we only have one president at a time...how come the news reported his comments to the Idian people and not President Bush's? The media will always love this gentleman, and there isn't anything we can do, except educate our kids on how to discover the truth.

Don't notice and don't care
Where was the MSM in covering Obama's character and judgement. No where and no how. Did the NYT and LAT send armies of reporters to Chicago to investigate Obama's ties to Ayers, Wright, Phleger, Rezko etal. That is reserved for Alaska and Phalin. Did you know Sarah has an unmarried daughter who is pregnant? Stop the presses!!!!!

When Obama changes course the MSM suffers from major whiplash with more than their noses up his backside.

Chris Matthews would not know a member of a hate based church if he saw him but he might get a thrill up his leg just the same.

Where were the SNL skits showing Obama asleep in the pews of Trinity UCC while Rev Wrong goes on one of his God D@@m the USofKKK rants. Or Obama putting his fingers in his ears screaming "I can't hear you" as Billy Ayers says he didn't kill enough back in the day with his terror bombs.

The next sixteen years will have the big brother media telling all that our dear leaders Barack and Michelle can do no wrong. We are in for the ride of our lives.

Sure....just like the great"Teflon-Don",no major
"faux-pas" will stick to Obamessiah(at the beginning of his reign while protected by MIC-media industrial complex) but EVERY-dog has his day, just like the Don, who went down in flames in prison(no one expected that)& so will "O".
Unfortunately, it will exact "heavy casualties,

.......you have been warned........

Hail To The Chief
Pres-elect Obama will soon learn that being President is not an easy job (three letter word)
I would not want to be in his shoes. Read My Lips (four letter word) The Press will turn on him as soon as possible. After all, they have to stay in bussiness, and who else is better to talk about than the Pres. I am a Republican,I did not vote for him,but I feel that when the honeymoon is over,Obama will be the first to know.

a key part of the Messiah's agenda
The election is over-- what now?

Amnesty John McCain and Hussein Obama were on the same page about ILLEGAL aliens (a path to citizenship), so it did not really become an issue with a distinction. [The Faustian strategy to try to appeal to Hispanic voters sure worked for Amnesty John, huh? Hispanics tend to be poor, so they WILL vote with the left.] But 70%+ of Americans prefer enforcement of EXISTING LAWS and gradual attritive repatriation versus a path to citizenship.

If we made citizens of 12-20 million poor, they would morph into 60-100 million of the same within 20 years per the Heritage foundation, and America would ineluctably PERMANENTLY become a big government welfare state third world country. Especially with an economic crisis and rising unemployment among those entitled to be here, NOW is NOT THE TIME to fathom embracing welfare cases in waiting.

http://www.heritage.org/Research/Immigration/wm1076.cfm

The left won this election because CINOS had governed like the left with feckless, profligate big spending, and prosecuted a pointless war against the wrong bad Islamics! The Messiah knows that if the Left can make voters of ILLEGALS, the permanent hegemony of the Left is assured.

Keep the pressure on ALL politicians at ALL levels of government to insist that our laws be enforced. You can reach all members of Congress free and easily right here-- rattle their cages! Tell them that you support the SAVE Act calling for better enforcement, and oppose any steps to scamnesty.

Media Non-criticism
The main stream media will never say anything against Obama. They will never criticize a black liberal. Never have, never will. They will rip Clearance Thomas and Condoleezza Rice apart but never a liberal---NEVER

Jan 21, 2009

Since there will be a newspaper printed on Jan 21, and they need to fill the pages, that's it.

And since TV and radio stations will be on the air, they will be telling that ObamBam forgot to tie his shoe laces, on it goes. The Hate America Radio Network will blame it on the shoe store.

The only good thing will be, MSDNC will have no hate to spew about the man who is president, they will be out of business.

Seawolf
"I fear we will rue that day we ever heard his name no less elected such an empty suit."

That's the truly scary part, Seawolf. People who, three years prior, had never heard the name were conditioned by that media to vote for him without questioning his credentials or qualifications.

How anyone thinks that same media will somehow find their souls and question him is beyond me.
We are not ruled by our elected representatives; we are ruled by an unelected elite who control the form and content of what we know and what we are to believe about that information.

acolytes & MSM propaganda
Phylo Se Fiser is an example of the folks who will praise the Obama Administration no matter what it does.

The Obama propaganda machine has a horde of acolytes and the MSM. The combination is toxic. There will never be any criticism of Obama except in the blogs.

The MSM will neer turn
Obama is the darling of the MSM. He will have their support even after he leaves office. They cannot admit they made a mistake.

The propaganda mill will work overtime to protect him during his administration.

A sign of the times...
saw my first "Don't Blame Me, I Voted for McCain" sticker on a car yesterday. That lyin' b@st@rd BHO will never be my president. He disrespected me and every other veteran out there when he claimed our troops were "air raiding villages and killing civilians". Support the resistance, on Jan 20, start flying the Culpeper Flag and fly the American flag at half staff.

Teflon President-Elect
"If you're a good enough organizer, panderer, and BS artist, you can get elected against a truth teller. No one wants to believe reality when they can look forward to 'hope' and 'change' especially 'change' that will energize 'hope' and 'hope' that'll bring about 'change.' Wow! I feel like dancing amongst the daffodils, don't you?" --comedian Dave Weinbaum

The "yes, we can" slogan repeated a trillion times and my favorite on the derisive laugh scale, "I promise to deliver" will come back to haunt him, sooner rather than later. And the liberal dupes bought it!

Even with B.O.'s propaganda machine (MSM included) he will stumble big time and disgrace himself. Hopefully, the country doesn't suffer irreversible losses.

The democrats specialize in capturing the uninformed, easily duped voters. That's one more reason illegal immigration is a looming danger to the country. The dems will give them amnesty and citizenship in exchange for their vote for the next three generations. And with that demographics’ minimum of four kids per family, the dems can rest easy.

November 5th, 2008 an incredibly unqualified and undeserving empty suit got elected. The stature of the presidency has been seriously and permanently compromised. The sacred symbol of the White House has now lost most of its luster. Let’s hope that in the next two years, the same will not be reflected in the Nation overall but I’m hugely skeptical!

And the "real world" intrudes
All right, it seems most of us agree that the country bought into the 'big con' of Obama. But now comes the real world, and its with guns blazing. Mumbai took place yesterday, maybe still going on for all I know, but it's no problem because "Obama has expressed sympathy", sort of like the "I feel your pain" of Clinton. Quite obviously he realizes he doesn't know his butt from 3rd base re defense, thats why he kept Gates on so maybe we will be OK. But I wonder if maybe Bush just may go out with a bang (literally) by using up a couple tomahawks on selected sites..tose were US and UK citizens targeted.
In regard to Mr. Elders article, which we seem to have gotten away from, Obama's stated "review of every item in the budget" will have about as much effect as urinating in the Atlantic. Without a 'line item veto' he can look all he wants to and make pretty lines on the bills all he wants and the Senate and Congress will just ignore him, and I'm just unsure enogh that he has enough real supporters in his own party that if they combine with Repubs his oversimplification of things wont harm too much.

They Are What They Are
That the MSM will always take up for Obama and obstruct any information or opinions that could hurt him - or simply tell the truth - has long been a known absolute. To even ask how long the press would cover for him is naive. I don't think the majority of those in the press even care that Obama's doing some things that are more simpatico with Bush policies then leftist ones. They're more concerned with social issues, and the big picture task of working socialism into place.

They got their guy in. The congress is controlled by the Democrats. It's praise the sky fairy (if you must) and pass the champagne. Or, the doobie.

Peace Out.

Fido de Fizzer
You're still defending CLINTON??

Uh, Fizzer, you have a new idiot taking over the WH in January 2009. Better get your duckies in order and start "defending" his socialist policies now.

BTW, Clinton demanded and Reno coerced the lenders to make bad mortages. That's a fact. That and the CRA are the seminal events for the credit crises. Clinton is indefensible; don't waste your valuable time making excuses for the bumpkin.

Yes, I listen to Rush Limbaugh too. The difference is that I know that he is a dishonest man with zero integrity who has no interest in reporting the truth, and you think he always tells the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

It's normal for presidential candidates to not show up for votes. McCain showed up for fewer votes than Obama. Didn't know that, did you? Know why? Cause Limbugh would never tell you that.

Think about this: The gist of the story is that Obama is going to eliminate wasteful spending in a bill. And Limbaugh has convinced you that this is somehow evidence that Obama is a rotten, lying scoundrel.

Don't you see how he is messing with your mind?

Don't you?

Limbaugh also told you that Obama can;t speak without a teleprompter. Remember that? Did you see the debates? Obama crushed McCain in every one. Have you seen his press conferences? He is a thousand times more eloquent and knowledgeable than Bush on every single question and topic he is asked about. And he actually speaks proper English!

Limbaugh is making you stupid and loco, loco.

Elder should be happy
Larry Elder should be happy. With O

You are what they call a useful idiot. Do you know why the Islamists hate us? It's because we have been manipulating their politics and exploiting their oil resources. The start date is more like 1953 when the CIA engineered the overthrow of the popularly elected leader of Iran and installed the Shah of Iran.

How would you like it if the Chinese invaded us and installed a brutal dictator. Would you feel any compulsion to attack the Chinese? I suspect you would. So now you understand why some in the Middle East would want to attack us.

We are the ones who are trying to dominate the world militarily. We are the ones who have military bases in nearly every country in the world. We are the aggressors.

We invaded Iraq because we wanted bases there to deter Iran from attacking Israel, and because we wanted to ensure a steady supply of oil for the oil companies.

So get a clue Ronald. There isn't a snowballs chance in hell that a bunch of cave-dwellers with box-cutters are never going to take over this country, or any other Western country. Only an insane person could possibly believe that.

Obama says he is going to make among other places in the budget, cuts in the farm subsidies to save money for all his proposed spending. When the farm bill was passed last year raising even more the amount of subsidies, he, of course, was not present. He sent a note saying it was not a perfect bill but accused Bush and the republicans of being mean and heartless in denying funds to the hungry. Bush vetoed the bill but was overridden.

From CNN White House Correspondent Kelly Wallace

September 27, 2000
Web posted at: 4:51 p.m. EDT (2051 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Clinton announced Wednesday that the federal budget surplus for fiscal year 2000 amounted to at least $230 billion, making it the largest in U.S. history and topping last year's record surplus of $122.7 billion.

Of course, these are just "facts", so they'll probably have no effect on your opinions.

Rhetoric v Action
The press will cover for Obama's obvious stalling but at some point, the disparity between his rhetoric and his actions will be exposed. With a filibuster proof Senate and a clear majority in the House, Obama will not be able to blame his inaction on Congress. Further, as he adopts more and more of Bush's policies, "it’s all Bush's fault" will be a non-starter as well.

The real lesson Mr. Obama is about to learn however is that in spite of the assembly of a huge cadre of advisors, "he" will be the one in the spotlight for the decisions he makes regardless of who told him to make them. He is having a good time right now as the "shadow" president. He should enjoy his time in the shadows; the spotlight of reality will put the heat on him immediately.

Education
After meeting with people who actually work in our government has Mr. Obama at last accepted knowledge as to what is going on in our country both in domestic and foreign relations--and realized that he had been misled my his own past associates?

Phylo Parrot
Phylo you are a pathetic little parrot of Lib Dem Obamaniacs lies about and distortions of truth, reality and real history. You have no clue.
Let's take only one example to destroy you and your silly posts forevermore:
The war brought to the world by Islamic jihadists in their current resurgence has been on since the 1970s, 30 or so years, through 7 Presidencies.
Bush is the only one who has done anything effective about beating back the jihadists as they have been beaten back before in pursuit of their aims since the founding of Islam by an illiterate, pedophile, self-proclaimed prophet 1400 years ago.
Their aims are to take over the world for Allah, a worldwide caliphate with Shar'ia law and to convert, subjugate or kill all infidels -unbelievers in Islam.
If you have not heard that before and do not accept it as truth you are living further under a rock than I can imagine.

loco
Amazing. You are saying, word for word, what Rush Limbaugh said the other day. Do think it makes you sound intelligent or something? Ever tried thinking for yourself? I actually heard the whole interchange between Obama and the reporter on NPR. (They played it without commentary by the way.) And it was much longer than the snippet played by Limbaugh. And he didn't stammer. That's Limbaugh's interpretation. I remember thinking at the time: there are people out there, who only listen to Limbaugh, who are going to think that Obama was testy and stammering because that's what Limbaugh said, and then they are going to wonder why the "liberal media" is covering for Obama. How sad that I was right. The grip that Limbaugh has on some of you people is disheartening, if not downright frightening. I expect more out of people.

Be Honest MSM
For now,we have a new President-elect.In the spirit of reaching across the aisle. We owe it to the MSM to show their President the exact same kind of respect and loyalty that they have shown our recent Republican President.

So many!
Phylo Se Fiser is apparently in the same corral as jax33--yet another sad case of the blind trying to lead those with sight.

Right you are!
Good response Mr. Elder. Clinton's honeymoon with the mainstream media and Hollywood lasted eight years too.

As for jax33, it is your paranoia that is showing. The way Shakespeare put it was, "The lady [read jax33] doth protest too much, methinks." Of course, today PROJECT might be properly substituted for "protest." It is apodictic that ultra liberals are completely blinded to their own thinking and actions; that is the only way most of them [recognize yourself?] manage to hold onto their completely fallacious opinions and positions. Poor little jax33, you use too severe, and too many, derogatory adjectives and phrases; they reveal the projection of your own "lying," "propaganist" motives, lack of "merit," non-"factual(ly) based" rantings, "paranoid conspiracy theories," "fantasies," and self-"superiority."

Bravo, Larry! Keep it up.

Phylo
Clinton never had a budget surplus. The deficit increased every year under Clinton. I will give you one thing during the first 6 years of Bush, with a Republican congress, the debt grew even more. However, the Republicans were kicked out in 2006 and this year's deficit will be more than a $1 trillion with a Democratic congress. What programs did they try to cut out of Bush's budget. All I remember was them saying that is was DOA and they increased the budget over what Bush asked for.

Chameleon
I've never witnessed, in my lifetime of 60 years, a president-elect running for center as fast as this one has. But, since he says things and then does things completely different, is there anything to trust in what the man says or does? I think not. This must be terribly disconcerting to all those Daily Kos and MoveOn folks. What they thought they were electing is not what they're getting.

The Peterson Principle
I hope that we are not witnessing the Peterson Principle at work in that those who mostly chose to be uninformed and beguiled have elected a man seemingly so ill-favored for the presidency. Has he reached the level of his incompetence? I think many people here on TH are worried that Obama's incompetence will be our loss as a nation. We had better stay vigilant in the needful quest to stand up for what we believe to be right and to ask God to give us discernment when our elected officials so often speak with forked tongues. Case in point; I have stopped watching the mainstream media circus and propaganda shows that helped to cover up important issues about O before the election. Just don't watch them anymore! Simple. Garbage in, Garbage out!!!

MSM will cover for Obama
"Larry Elder is a lying propagandist. Nothing he says has any merit. It's not factually based. It's based on paranoid conspiracy theories about the "liberal media", and fantasies of inherent Republican superiority."

HA HA HA HA That's it, resort to slandering if someone doesn't agree with "the One"...

Great article Larry Elder.

Obama will stop the questions
he doesn't like just as he did in his most recent press conference in which he introduced more of his appointees.A reporter dared to ask a question he didn't like, and he tried to cut him off saying the questioned introducd wasn't about the reason for the press conference. He, of course, stuttered and stammered in his reply and didn't mask his anger. And as for that reporter, he can be sure he won't be called on in the future.

jax33
Why?

So you can read this nonsense without anyone pointing out how wrong it is? So you can remain comfortable in your delusional view of reality?

Sorry. Not gonna do that.

Larry Elder is a lying propagandist. Nothing he says has any merit. It's not factually based. It's based on paranoid conspiracy theories about the "liberal media", and fantasies of inherent Republican superiority.

Bush has nearly destroyed this country in the eight years he's been in office. Our foreign policy is a failure. We are at an all-time low in popularity around the world. Even our allies hate us. (I know, I know, you far right nuts think that's a good thing; means we're doin somethin right.)

We also went from a three trillion dollar debt and a budget surplus to 11 trillion in debt and a trillion dollar budget deficit in eight years! We have fought a war that cost 2 trillion dollars and 4500 soldiers and 100,000 dead Iraqis, millions more displaced from their homes, and we get NOTHING for our efforts.

And yet all you can do is find criticism of Carter, Clinton and Obama?

Do you have any idea how backwards your view of reality is? Do you realize that 90% of this country feels like we're on the wrong track under Bush? You must be one of those 10%ers out there.

I used to think that one man couldn't do much to bring this country down. Bush has succeeded spectacularly in proving me wrong.

Has it ever occurred to you that you might be the one who is fooled by far right propaganda?

What has Obama done so far to convince you that he is the radical leftist that right wing fanatics have been saying he is?

I take it you're surprised that he didn't name Bill Ayers to Homeland Security so he could finally fulfill his dream of destroying the Pentagon, right?

Get a clue.

What a dishonest column!
Gee, I wonder why Larry Elder, Michael Steele and Thomas Sowell seem to relish bashing Obama.

This column is so dishonest, it makes me wonder about Elders motives.

a) Bush/McCain deregulation created our problems

Elder blames it on Clinton, failing to mention that it was Republican Phill Graham who pushed the bill through. And Obama, like every other sane person in the world, wants to implement smarter regulations.

b) the policies of President Clinton brought success and shared prosperity,

notice Elder doesn't argue this point

c) President Bush's tax cuts unfairly enriched the rich,

They did. And not only that, giving these people their tax cuts did not result in a better economy. And does anyone honestly believe that raising the top marginal tax rate by 3.5% would alter anyone's behavior. Is anyone going to say "Whoa, it's just not worth earning money anymore?

d) Obama intends to end posthaste the Iraq war, which "never should have been authorized and never should have been waged,"

He always said he would be as careful getting out as we were careless going in.

e) through Gitmo/unlawful wiretaps/illegal interrogation procedures, Bush "shredded" the Constitution.

Bush did shred the Constitution. The illegal wiretaps violated the fourth amendment and he violated the separation of powers by ignoring a law passed by congress. And Obama is talking about carrying on parts of the new legislation that was recently passed by congress. Apples and Oranges, Elder.

I want to know how long it will take before far right ideologues like Larry Elder admit that Obama is a thousand times smarter, more capable and more competent than Bush.

Phylo out

Media reform
Should be the new undertaking of a
misled nation.

Not that they see it...but at least
half do.

The MSM got Obama in and it was all
emotion.

The question is how to get the current
media out!

No. 1 -- don't watch network news
products, that includes View, Oprah,
20/20, 60 Minutes, and the national
30 minute garbage every night by Gibson,
Williams, Couric.

What has happened to the Republic?
Yes, he is faced with actually governing.
A real job, which he has never had.

He proved successful at campainging;
emotionally swaying the igorant majority
into voting for him.

Isn't that what the Founding Fathers referred
to as 'mobocracy'?

TEFLON MAN
What could more can we expect from a Community Organizer and a Senator who spent 13 months in the Senate? Ready to lead, No? Obama is sophmoric. His On Job Training will be dangerous for this country and others. However, all his sh**t will float to the top and it can't be covered up forever by his smooth handlers.

Great commentary Larry!

When you watch the You Tube video sighted in your comments defending your lib friends. Did you miss the part where President Bush mentions "QUALIFIED HOMEOWNERS"? You must have missed the part where he states "WITH MORTGAGE RATES THAT ADJUST DOWN OVER TIME". If you know anything about these subprime mortgages there is no verbage written into the documents mandating the interest rate going down! The rate is tied to LIBOR and 10 Year Treasury which, if you haven't noticed, have gone up! The LIBOR was at all-time lows which lenders knew would not hold in the long run! Again, Democrats have to blame the current President Bush for their problems.

What have we done...
What have we done? Do we realize that we just enabled a far left Liberal/Socialist agenda upon ourselves? Our forefathers must be turning over in their graves. Mr. “HOPE AND CHANGE” with a total lack of grit will, both at home and aboard; be tested early and often. What if he fails these tests? Then WHAT…? Can we afford his failures?

We again, for the third time in my life-time, have chosen an intelligent, eloquent but untested conman as our leader of the “Free World” (Jimmy Carter was the first, Bill Clinton the second). “The obvious apprehension is that the anointed one is a stranger—a deeply engaging, elegant, brilliant but flawed stranger with whom we had a sweltering affair. Once we wake up, we will see the ring and wonder who exactly we married last night.” If President Obama is able to parley Congress to get what he has promised (taking from Peter and giving it to Paul; you will always get Paul’s vote), this wake-up-call may come to late to save America. We made the mistake of giving him the ring on November 4th. We were so disposed in doing so, only time will tell if we will live to regret it. Nov. 4th, 2008 will become known as “Judgment Day”.

The collective judgment displayed by the majority of the voters on Nov. 4th, 2008 is very disturbing. Obama reminds me of others throughout history, with their ability to so quietly and enchantingly say one thing, mean and do another; and people will shake their heads in approval of the very things they oppose. What is amazing is they believe they have agreed with him. The results of this election provide proof that people can be hypnotized to the degree that they not know what they are doing. What is very scary is that history has also proven repeatedly; that those willing to agree without questioning become hypnotized and are the first to die by the millions.

Bush not the Man any mo'.
It ia all Bush's fault, and will be for however long the Dems have absolute power. He hasn't even been swotn in as yet, he is assuming the title, presence, duties, position, lectern that is the privlidges of a sitting president. The liberal biased media will give this guy a free ride forever. Give the guy the hook until Jan. 20th. Did I say it is all Bush's fault?

"My observation is, being a politician means never having to say you are sorry and it means you are rarely held accountable".

What a great observation and how true. Someone famous said "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutly".

545 people are resposible for the current state of mess this economy is in. Everyone of them have a shared interest in the corruption that goes on daily in the Capitol.

There are those who will deny any part of this, its the other guy, not me. How do you know when a politician is lying? Living in a state of
denial.

IMPEACH OBAMA !!!
.

How long will it take
for the terrorists to "test" the ONE after Jan 20th?
They are already planning an attack on the rail lines in the Eastern corridor, the NYC subways, Penn station etc...will they attack now or wait?
The unanswerable question is this; would they be doing so if McCain had won?

I posit that they would not, just as our hostages were released when Reagan was sworn in, the election of a proven warrior would certainly give pause to anyone foolish enough to attack us.

The stupid, the greedy and the MSM got this fool elected, let's see just how slick his coating is when it hits the fan shortly after he is sworn in.

I fear we will rue that day we ever heard his name no less elected such an empty suit.

eight years!
That's quite a long time to assume there will be people fawning over Obama. The liberal illuminati has done a great job of doing just that- blaming Bush and not taking much action. Let's hope that sometime before then, Obama will have to make his own decisions- ones he can't weasel out of accepting blame for making.

Who is BHO?
It is amazing that when people are asked questions about facts concerning Obama don't know what they are talking about. Who is William Ayers? A. Don't know him. Who said they will bankrupt the coal companies and coal fired power plants? A. Probably Sarah Palin. Who had all their opponents kicked off the ballot to win an election? A. Probably John McCain.
People voted for a rock star who could do no wrong, not one qualified to be president of the USA. BHO bought this election with $685 million in questionable funds, after another of his outright lies to accept federal finance and donation limits.
The media "one" darling can do no wrong, I doubt they will ever admit their mistakes.

God Bless and Protect - American Warrior
The American Warrior is someone who is walking the hero's path. Someone who can walk into the heart of darkness for Duty, Honor and Country.

The American Warrior is someone who frightens many people because they live in denial of reality, the American Warrior reminds those people that violence exists in the world.

The American Warrior has the capacity for violence towards those who threaten America and the American way of life.

The American Warrior is a constant reminder that there are terrorists in the land and those that wish to destroy America are already here on American soil.

The American Warrior on September 11, 2001, rushed towards the danger instead of fleeing from it, intent on defending and helping those American citizens in danger. Many American Warriors gave their lives that day and many more were willing to give the ultimate sacrifice for America and its citizens.

Most Americans are glad that they were not on the planes that crashed into the WTC and the Pentagon - the American Warrior wished they had been on those planes because they might have made a difference.

American Warriors were on United Airlines Flight 93 and defended unto death America and its citizens with the cry "lets roll".

The American Warrior waits for the day that they have lived for and trained for their entire life - to defend until death, America and its citizens.

"There is no safety for honest men except by believing all possible evil of evil men." - Edmund Burke

This Thanksgiving, I salute the American Warrior, both living and dead. Men and women who serve in the Armed Forces, Police Forces, Fire Departments and ordinary civilians who rush forward to our defense instead of running from danger.

The American Warrior - God Bless and Protect You!

The Dem. laws set up the credit wall
Whether Bush wanted more people to own housing (a good idea) is irrelevant to the fact that Dem. legislation and directed ec. measures created by Dems. for 60 years (and ALL still in place and STILL in force) created the current mess:
Freddie Mac (1938, FDR)
Fannie Mae (1968, Johnson)
CRAs (1977, Carter; 1992, Clinton)

Doubtless, Greenspan's helping near 0 inflation and interest boosted the numbers of people taking mortgages and doubtless Bush liked to brag 70% owned their own homes--ACTUALLY, nearly 70% will remain owning their own (single)homes, as tens of 1000s of the housing in default or foreclosure are 1) 2nd-3rd homes/vacation homes, 2) *investment* homes, owners intended to *flip* before the bottom fell out.

But it was the law of making financials lend money to bad risks and outright crooks that killed the housing market, and those laws and mandates are still on the books, and Dem. idiots in Cong. are already demanding any banks receiving *bailouts* MUST keep lending that money and not *hoarding* it.

Truth is banks/financials sometimes *hoard* money because having cash is what makes them successful or not. There is BANK in bankruptcy for a reason.

Gorge(d) on lies
Everything Elder says says is true. Have you forgotten that Obama, Dodd, Land deal Reid and others benefited from this non-existent crisis? Deregulation didn't cause this and Clinton left Bush 43 with a recession.

The dotcom boom had nothing to do with the policies of Clinton unless you really believe that Algore invented the internet. Another handy lie is the "surplus"...There was only a debt shift, not debt reduction...and to boot, no true "surplus" since 1960.

The Reagan and Bush (43) tax cuts were proportional, across the board not for the rich, in case you fell for the lie that it was just the rich who benefited.

Ignorance is bliss for you people isn't it?

Subject: growth
The only "historic growth" during the Clinton administration was the growth of the National Debt.

Well that and the rise in the oval office.

LMFAO hic! (not used with blubberbutt the seatbuffers permission, because I will NEVER ask for it!)

Happy Thanksgiving to ALL!

Michael
I'm with you in hoping that the media starts asking 'That one' the tough questions. However, I'm wondering if anyone of them actually does, will they find themselves literally kicked off the plane like during his campaign.

First rule of communism; take control of the press and stifle your opposition. Comrade hussein knows that rule well.

Continued lies from the left.
Gorgegirl2,
Ask someone to tell you about the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977.
Ask someone to explain bubba's orders to eliminate qualifications for loans so as to attain 67.5% home ownership for "de po' foke".
At that time, 1999, it was at the nationally historic norm of 60%.
Historic growth? Sure, of semen on a black dress.

Backbone
Some news person with credibility needs to step and ask the real questions and no softball questions. If the format dictates, questions needs to be prefaced with conditionality. This is to be recorded at press conferences for public record. The press needs to treat the press sec. and president like he treated the sheepy voters.

growth
The only "historic growth" during the Clinton administration was the growth of the National Debt.

re: Teflon Candidate -Don
Don--Subject: Teflon Candidate
"BHO was the Teflon candidate, why wouldn't he be a Teflon president. The "covering up" of his inadequacies has already begun, and he hasn't even been sworn in yet."

I want to nail his Jello to the wall and see if it really sticks. That may happen when he doesn't have water to float on. Someone in the whitehouse news corps who can step up and refuse to be left off the plane who is bold, with fresh ideas needs to keep forcing the questions to be answered. Stir this guy up or his press secretary stooge.

Teflon Candidate
BHO was the teflon candidate, why wouldn't he be a teflon president. The "covering up" of his inadequacies has already begun, and he hasn't even been sworn in yet.

and
Why don't they take credit for Katrina. New Orleans had a Democratic mayor and Louisiana had a Democratic governor. In fact, there was a caravan of over 50 school buses sent from Lafayette to rescue the people that was turned around before they got to N.O. I bet you didn't hear about that. Only Bush got the blame when it wasn't the feds responsibility to rescue people.

Happy Thanksgiving all.
The truth of the matter is that the government which consists of republicans, democrats, the judiciary, some non-partisan appointed ones and the bureaucrats, and a few others are all human and they all screw up. They are a big disfunctional family most of the time, which may be entertaining but it isn't that good for the country after a point. The politicians themselves push the envelope of blame only so far because just about everybody in it has their hand in the till and couldn't bear much scrutiny. So they have developed a culture of blame, but they only go so far because they know they too will soon be the target of the blame so they don't dish out too much. Anybody who has the attitude we are always right and they are always wrong has to look at things just a little more critically. I never knew about Glass-Steagall, so I learned something. My observation is, being a politician means never having to say you are sorry and it means you are rarely held accountable. The fact that the republicans don't defend themselves sends the wrong message though, so come on stop making people like Larry Elder carry your water. Defend your positions!

Glass-Steagall Act ...
At last, something has a name... I very much recall the controversy over the repeal of this act and I do recall some commentators warning to whose advantage that would be and what the final result would be. They were like prophets,
absolutely correct.
Why would anyone want to listen to reason if you are at the front of the line and have the bucks to make the sale?

Hey Cincy
Why do the Democrats not take credit for the high price of gas a few months ago when they have opposed every supply issue for 40 years? Why don't they take credit for the Community Reinvestment Act that was been a big part of this financial meltdown? Why don't the Democrats take credit for Kelo?

Larry Plays the Victocrat Constantly
Larry always blames the media instead of his precious Neo-Cons who've run the country into the ditch and he's incapable of taking responsibility for all the failed policies he's advocated. If you listened to him out here in L.A. you'd marvel his contortions in explaining/glossing the Dubya years. Incredible.

MESSAGE FROM THE FRONT
The media can have a love affair with the President-elect all they want and I’m sure they will. That’s why we need to unite and send a message to the media that we’re not buying what their selling. Boycott the bias mainstream media. Add your voice at:

If you think his understanding is soooo dismal, why don't you give examples of how he is wrong instead of just mouthing off about it.

MSM
One thing I have noticed with the MSM is that whenever the stock market goes up these days it is because of something that Obama has said according to the news reporters. I agree with your statement that anything that goes wrong in the next 4 years (8 if he is reelected) will be Bush's fault and anything good Obama will get credit for it.
