Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Editors' Note: The following Larry Elder column contains strong language that readers may find offensive.

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, fearing an upcoming indictment on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice, launched into a tirade during a speech about the state of the city.

Kilpatrick, a married man, allegedly had an affair with his married chief of staff. The city fired a police officer and the deputy police chief involved in investigating wrongdoing by the mayor's security team. During the wrongful termination trial, the mayor and his chief of staff, under oath, denied having a romantic or intimate affair.

Unfortunately for the pair, a local newspaper obtained some 14,000 text messages to and from the mayor and the aide, in which they discuss, in graphic details, their affair. The mayor, resorting to the time-honored tradition of blaming everything and everybody but global warming and the Loch Ness monster, said, "In the past 30 days, I've been called a nigger more than any time in my entire life." He then talked about receiving death threats, and blamed the media for its unfair focus on his activities and for the scrutiny's impact on his family. "In the past three days, I've received more death threats than I have in my entire administration. … I don't believe that a Nielsen rating is worth the life of my children or your children."

Please, pass the Kleenex. A victim of white racism? Perhaps the good mayor might want to take a look at my mailbag.

The following is a sampling of e-mail -- grammatical errors and all -- I recently received while promoting my new book, "Stupid Black Men: How to Play the Race Card -- and Lose." The book makes the point, among other things, that white racism no longer poses a significant hurdle to black progress and achievement. Apparently, many blacks disagree:

"f--- you and you book n---er"

"eat s--- an die n---er"

"Your STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"MR. ELDERS, YOUR BOOK "STUPID BLACK MEN" I WOULD THINK THAT A PERSON WITH YOUR EDUCATION COULD COME UP WITH A BETTER TITLE THAN THAT. … YOU DON'T SEEM TO LIKE BLACK PEOPLE TO MUCH!!!!!!!!!"

"you are paid to critize the marginal citizens … further your paternal allegience to the president even thought he has made collosul mistakes"

"Mr N---er how much white a-- can you kiss at one time. You think cause white people let you make a little money you have arrived. Let me tell you one thing if your a-- kisssing self step out of line for one min. you are through. You see n---ers like you where the Africans catching other Africans, it is in your DNA. You are that one n---er that abused your brother in slavery. The things some n---ers will do for money."

"You are no better than Foxnews. You are black folks worst nightmare. It is not white folk who slay us it is uncle Toms like you."

"Why do you hate Obama so much? Is it because you had to whore yourself or forget where you came from and who you are (a black man in a country run by rich white people) to get where you are (or want to be), and he did not? … You're simply a HATER/IDIOT/N---ER!!! … Or, maybe your rhetoric is the only way your Uncle Tom a-- can make money -- trashing successful black people who cannot/refuse to whore themselves for white America like you do."

"STUPID BLACK MEN VS. A SMART A-- D--- SUCKING N---ER."

"You are a f---ing Uncle Tom Bitch."

"Please the next time you take a s--- remember to 'smell it.' Then you might understand what is at stake here as Mr. Obama and the rest of us move America forward, there is no room for you in the universe ahead."

"You are an absolute disgrace to your race -- a pathetic self-serving idiot. I usually applaud people of accomplishment but your book and your show is a sell-out. When I see you I think of all the 'n---ers' that participated in the slave trade. … I think that it is 'n---ers' like you that have held black America back."

"ITS APPARENT THAT YOU ARE A PUPPET, A INDIVIDUAL THAT I WOULD GUESS IS MARRIED TO A WHITE WOMEN, HAD VERY FEW FRIENDS GROWING UP, AND A GOOD PART OF THOSE CHASED YOU HOME AND SOME HOW YOU START ACCEPTING THE ROLE OF UNCLE TOM YEARS AGO. … YOU ARE A JOKE, YOU REALLY HAVE NO PLACE IN OUR SOCIETY, YOU SHOULD BE REMOVED FOR GOOD."

In fairness, I received at least one note without expletives, and with proper spelling and grammar:

"You are so filthy and disgusting that being dead would be punishment for the dead! Why don't you hang yourself from a burning cross!"

So, Mayor Kilpatrick, I feel your pain. But so far, at least in my case, no indictment appears forthcoming.

Don't any of these people
know about the book "Stupid White Men"? Apparently white people can call other white people "stupid white people" and it's just fine, but if a black man calls other black people "stupid black people" they're race traitors. Keep fighting the good fight, Larry.

Holy Cow!
My sympathies, Larry.

The recent Obama/wright flap has really opened my eyes to racial divide that exists in these united states. It seems there is a large population folks of African descent who refuse to accept the founding principles and just go about their lives as Americans. This is very sad.

As for those who demand reparations, my solution is to offer something like $2000.00 and whatever they have after selling what they own. They can take this nest egg and with a government provided one-way ticket to the country of their choice leave forever. I am certain they will live in perpetual bliss in their new country.

By the way, the USA's doors will remain open to Jamaicans, Nigerians, Kenyans and others who wish to come and join their fellow immigrants to this racist h#llhole

It's Not Just Larry
Michelle Malkin gets the same treatment. She is regularly savaged and called all sorts of wonderful names by our compassionate liberal friends. Nothing worse to a caring, understanding liberal than someone of color not marching in goose-step fashion to the liberal agenda.

And I believe it would be a mistake to think all the quotes in this column are by blacks. White liberals will say anything to a conservative, no matter what the race.

Larry, go ahead and publish the email addresses of these quotes. Michelle Malkin did this in a recent book and it added additional impact.

LARRY!!
"But so far, at least in my case, no indictment appears forthcoming."

Well, Larry, if it'll make you feel any better, I hereby indict you for having a very nasty column. Yes, I know we were all warned at the top. I thought I could handle it. Boy was I wrong!

I don't think you needed to show *quite* so many of your letters to demonstrate your point!

You are now "indicted". So there!

Wow!
Words fail me. (But at least I now know what is meant by the term "hate" mail.)

Congratulations........
You, Mr. Elder, are the epitome of grace under fire.

Godspeed my friend.

Unca Alby
Did you intend sarcasm, or humor, in your post?

If not, I cannot, for the life of me, understand your "indictment" of Larry Elder for the content of his column.

He has every right to air the responses he received. Apparently many in the black community lean toward the Democratic Party. The opinions Mr. Elder made note of obviously came from the liberal camp.

I can only hope many of those who identify themselves as black will agree with him.

Your Mailbag
Unlike those of other species human brains over the millennia have come up with everything from the wheel to all that we currently enjoy as humans living in 2008. Our use of symbolic language be it verbal, mathematical, musical or perhaps something else has allowed human brains to understand and enjoy the world and surrounding universe as never before. But amidst all this progress in understanding and enjoyment it must always be remembered that each individual human brain winds up being a unique entity built by human DNA and modified by a ton of experience, and it seems we’re all forever stuck with putting up with name calling and other attempts of verbal ridicule from those human brains who for reasons of their own have come to understand things differently and refuse to accept our version of reality. But as long as it’s just words and not bullets or airplanes flying into skyscrapers I guess we can all learn to live with such nonsense.

Wow
I had no idea. Keep the faith, Larry. We need people like you willing to fight for the truth.

Dave

I'm-a-victim routine
- so popular among those caught victimizing others.

Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick joins the I-can't-stop-talking-about-how great-I-am Barack Obama in the quick-step dance to avoid responsibility when caught doing something wrong. The tricky turn is from what I'm doing wrong to what others did wrong to me, even if I have to go back to when I was three years old. If you can't find something, distort something ordinary or make it up. People do it all the time.

So the Detroit Mayor claims to have been called the n... word in the last 30 days. Since whites aren't allowed to use that word or they lose their jobs and reputation, I bet it's his black disillusioned voters who are throwing that term at him.

Don't Grow Weary Larry
You are a couragist man with the mettle and spirit to withstand the onslaught of little minds. Warriors are men and women who stand their ground against the hordes of twisted minds who hold all that is good to be evil.

Heroes are those who go beyond the call of duty and persevere when others fail.

You Sir, are an American Hero!

refatsew
Jeez, you could have just said "sticks and stones will break my bones..." or something to that effect.

Godspeed Larry
This behavior is common with many within the U.S.A. If you make a stand, have the courage of your convictions, individuals who disagree will play the ad hom game.

Illiterates often play the race game, especially enabling, illiterate parents, regardless of race.

It is sad
I am 64 year old, white man, reading your book. You call it like it is, today. That sure isn't what it was.

I was raised in a steel town. My neighborhood was integrated with: "Colored" people, Slavs, Greeks, Puerto Ricans, Italians, Polish, and others. We were all poor. We were all Americans.

We went to school together, played sports together, showered together, drank out of the same water bucket, and were friends.

Most of us went to church, believed in God, and graduated from high school. Your book details where we are today. It saddens me to see what has happened to blacks, in particular. Rap music, drugs, hate, and the attitude of victimization seem to prevail.

Who influences these losers: Democrats, Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson.

We love you, Larry
I and I don't just mean us honkey's, crackers and rednecks either.

I was loading in LA one afternoon and as was my custom, had the doors of my truck opened so I could listen to talk radio. It was tuned to the "Sage of South Central," Mr. Elder who I never missed when I was in SoCal, before he went national. One of the warehousemen, a black man, heard Larry's show emanating from my radio and launched into a tirade which could have easily made the list of above emails.

I just looked at him for a moment and started laughing to his face, which diverted his attention to me. Then I asked him if Mr. Elder was such a sell out, an Uncle Tom - why was most of his show talking about solutions to black problems?

Then I asked him a few questions which made him wonder about his firmly held political affiliations - like how welfare had destroyed the black family, or coddling criminals causes there to be more victims.

As it turns out, being married, w/children, trying to isolate his family from the rot of his community, he was actually a conservative Christian in most of his beliefs, which when I pointed this out came as quite a surprise to him. He even admitted that a lot of his friends thought similarly to the way he did. We actually didn't find much politics in common to discuss since his views were founded in half-truths and prejudice - the stock in trade of dhimmicrats - but we did find fellowship in Christ.

I feel we parted as friends, with myself promising to pray for him and his family and him agreeing to listen to Mr. Elder and try to get a clue. I never loaded there again, as is the nature of trucking, but I hope I at least planted a seed with this otherwise decent man, to put aside his preset notions and listen with a different ear.

One person at a time, if that's what it takes.

Typical Liberal Response...
... to those with whom they disagree. Constructive dialogue? Intelligent, thought-provoking debate in the issues? From LIBERALS? Puuuu-LEEEEEEEEEZE!

Thanks, Larry!
Larry,

I love your columns because you talk simple common sense and decency; the way the people of this country believed was normal 50 years ago.

Then, the radicals and elitists decided to "improve" our society. Now we've got a soft, whining, unrealistic younger generation and a growing underclass of black, white, and Hispanic people thanks to hand-outs and victimization talk.

I've noticed that all my liberal-spouting, "non-judgmental" old widowed friends are most proud to brag about their solid, hard-working children and achieving grandchildren who are living, if not preaching, conservative values! Or, if they are complaining or asking for prayers, it's that those who are living "liberal" lives stop that behavior and behave conservatively! They don't see the hypocrisy even when I point it out.

Hey Kwame & Larry's Mailbag
How are we ever going to achieve E Pluribus Unum (Out of many, One), equal opportunity, get equal justice - when we constantly allow the practice of DOUBLE STANDARDS? A recent stark example: Biden catches hell for saying Obama is articulate; yet Obama gets a free pass, excused like a 2-yr-old child, when he throws his own grandmother under the bus comparing her to the black values, black nationalist, hate speech of Rev. Wright, & later Obama says granny was just a "typical white person." A boy will never become a man, unless he is forced to grow up. White Guilt (Shelby Steele's excellent book) & liberalism are allowing too many blacks (& other minorities) to practice double standards & victimhood, & prevents them from growing up & taking responsibilty for their own actions: Kilpatrick, OJ Simpson, Wm Jefferson, Ray Nagan & Marion Barry to name a few recent examples. Grow up Kwame & stop blaming Whitey.

Incredible vitriol!
Nobody should be so verbally pummeled like this. Where is the so-called "tolerance" for viewpoints at odds with one's own? This is spewing hatred, pure and simple. Despite all that the country has been through in the past several decades, it floors me that anyone can treat his fellow man in this way. I shouldn't be surprised, but I am.

Wow
Wow, thanks for making me really sad this morning. How disheartening. I guess the truth just hurts. I work in Detroit and think the mayor is a total disgrace. The lawsuit cost the taxpayers of the city (Me) $9 million - could have torn down alot of really bad looking buildings with that money. Instead, mayor acts like we are all supposed to just forget what a liar and a cheat he is. Forget the $9 million - he is worth it? What is true, right and just, will always be true, right and just! A man that cheats on his wife will cheat at anything. I am sorry that you have to endure such rantings. I am proud to be your supporter and I hope mayor k sees the light and steps down (he should be in jail).

The real common denominator: Liberals!

Reading the emails sent to Mr. Elder's are reprehensible, but I'm beyond feeling sorry for such ignorant, pathetic people.

Bernie Goldberg said, after his book, "100 People Who Are Screwing Up America (and Al Franken Is #37)" was published, that while he expected some backlash, he was totally unprepared for what he actually got.

Goldberg was deluged with voicemail and email messages from the left.. all being the most vile, reprehensible, abhorrent comments one could imagine. In fact, he said that after 30 years in the "news business" even HE was shocked.

Since Goldberg listed a few Conservatives in his book, he also received a few messages from Conservatives. However, without exception, EACH and EVERY message from Conservatives was at least polite and on point, and in the cases of emails, the spelling and grammar were correct.

Dennis Miller said the same thing about emails he's received. At least the Conservatives are polite and they can spell.

Getting the point here?

If not, take a look at Glenn Beck's site. He sometimes posts emails from the left. Vile and reprehensible almost covers it.

This is NOT a black vs white issue. This is a liberal issue!!!!

And oh yeah, I think I have figured out that I actually do have a prejudice! It's liberals.

No, wait... it's not a preconceived, irrational feeling... The liberals have earned the distain they get from rational, reasonable people....

race in America
In an ideal America there are no hyphenated Americans, only Americans. An Obama presidency would accelerate our collectivization without closing the racial divide. On the contrary, it would only exacerbate it.

What an eye opener...Thanks, Larry!
What vile, disgusting hate speech. Those e-mails contained the most racist, virulent attacks I have read. Where is the outrage from our white Liberal friends?

roadmaster
"One person at a time, if that what it takes"

Methinks it will

Thanks

Larry, please keep the faith!
Unfortunateley, it is to be expected as political correctness has placed racist blacks in charge of educating black children (so that they will have a black mentor to look up to) that indoctrinates these children with the bias of Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. It is just like the Islamic schools that indoctrinate hate of Jews and any other "infidel" and that it is OK to kill any unbeliever.

You and Dr. Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, Bill Cosby and others too numerous to name are heroes that speak the truth. Unfortunately, most people don't want to hear the truth and as the line from "A few good men", they "can't handle the truth"!

As for the mayor, the sooner he is convicted and in jail, the better!

Larry Elder,Statesman
Mr.Elder...I have read your columns and seen you on talk shows and have much respect for you.

You are not politically correct, though, and that is your problem. You do not spare anyone who you think needs criticism. That is a no-no.

It is fine when liberals criticize, conservatives,Republicans, and most of all Christians. They are all fair game and need to be destroyed. They are ,after all, ruining this country!

It is clear that there are three classes of folks that it is poision to criticize. They are : Blacks, homosexuals and Muslims.

Keep up the good work.Hit them where it hurts, but most of all...WATCH YOUR BACK!!!

Patriots
This column has elicited some of the best posts I have read at TH.

Anne, Anastasia, roadmster,Doro, C, Yooper, Liberator, Dutch, Nick et al - You are Patriots!

The reason most liberals have avoided this article like the plague - it is indefensible with the usual platitudes, moral relativity and twisted logic that are their only armaments.

God Bless America!!

Dear Mr. Elder
I'm sorry you have to get such horrible mail. However, the "good" mail has to outnumber the nasty 100 to 1. Keep up the good work.

I'm guessing this is just a small ...
sampling of what one gets when they dare step off the liberal democrat plantation. Mr. Elder, you've always had my respect and admiration. Now you will have my specific prayers for protection from elements that may consider physical retribution.

Not Surprised
Fore!!! Hit. Par for the course.

See PDF File at Thomas More Law Center for the wonderful e-mails from "admirers" to OK Rep. Sally Kern who dared to assail the homosexual agenda.

Keep up the good fight Larry!

Mr. Elder
I hope this hatred does not deter you from the good fight.

Perhaps some liberals will show up here, and try to defend the indefensible. That would make my day!

God has blessed you, indeed!!!

;-)

Toleration?
That's putting up with something harmful, and is not the same as acceptance.

Our problem is that we both accept and tolerate such speech. The Scriptures warn us what fires the tongue can start. It's time to stop tolerating such speech by shaming those who speak like that and removing them from our midst.

Oh, yes, we have the First Amendment, but we are not required to give platforms and audiences to those who sow seeds of discord and hatred among us. Words DO hurt us, because they engender anti-social attitudes and promote bad behavior.

The nursery rhyme is decidedly wrong.

In case it isn't clear to the lefties, I'm talking about not about censorship, but exposing, shunning, and refusing to have discussions and relationships with anyone who talks like that.

We start with our children and their uncivilized music lyrics, and publicly condemn at every turn the Farrakhans, Jacksons, Wrights, and Byrds, as well as the reporters who want Justice Thomas's wife to feed him high-cholesterol foods until he dies.

When all cultures are equal, there is no culture.

Mr. Elders Hate Mail
OBVIOUSLY came from Tolerant, Diversity Sensitive, Open Minded, Liberals like MoronDog, BeastialityBoy, Hal Drunkahue, Wobbie, Will and other geniuses.

Larry
Confirmation from God you're doing the right thing. Keep it up!

More people need to see this stuff
I see some of you have been enlightened. That is progress. I knew of some of this but never realized how bad it really is. My first lesson was when I moved from Denver to Boston. I assumed Boston was a liberal melting pot full of tolerance. What a joke that turned out to be. Liberal yes, tolerant, not even close. I've also seem my share of black on black treatment that isn't exactly pretty - though nothing like the email Larry has.

Kudos to all who woke up and learned something new today. Sometimes you have to be exposed to the filth to really believed it.

Reminds me a little of the reaction to Saving Private Ryan. So many said, wow, war is really horrific. No kidding.

5 stars Larry

If hate sppech were a crime

If hate sppech were a crime, Mr Elders could fill up all the jails for 500 miles around.

Packrat writes: "If hate speech were

a crime..."

How right you are!!!

Seems that Mr. Elder, and others like him, such as Justice Thomas, Dr. Sowell, Bill Cosby, Armstrong Williams, to name just a few, ALL seem to bring out the "best" the bigoted, limited liberals have to offer.

Ignorance and hate!!!

I would send them back
with corrections in red pen to their grammar, capitalization, punctuation and spelling. No other comment.

It would drive them crazy.

Roadmaster
I can't explain how inspiring your post was, so I'll just say thank you.

My thoughts
As a conservative American that happens to be black, I understand the trials Mr. Elder endures at the hands of the collectivist angry liberals. It made him a stronger person, just as it has me. Fortunately for all of us, strong people realize at an early age the benefits of standing on one's own and using one's talents to better their own situation. Others though never discover their own strength and are forced to substitute something else. Collectivism seems to be what many choose. This is demonstrated by their insisting on the notion that by banding together their situation will somehow be better, all the while settling for a poor life. By the time they reach maturity it is too late to learn what they could do. So attacks or things perceived as attacks on themselves, or the collective they consider themselves members of, elicit the type of ignorant ravings they consider to be meaningful commentary.

I have always used these types of comments to educate my children, and now my grandchildren, on who their competition is in the economy. Knowing the mindset of who they are up against benefits them immensely even though they sometimes have to work with or live next to collectivists. The greatest benefit is their mobility. My kids and grandkids can choose to go somewhere else or live somewhere else or associate with someone else. Those who authored the notes to Mr. Elder are forever trapped in the collective. I thank you Larry for going to bat for the young people that still have a chance to make a difference for themselves.

Audi
Haha! Classic.

Twinkie girl
"She (meaning Michelle Malkin is regularly savaged and called all sorts of wonderful names by our compassionate liberal friends."

And rightfully so.

Yes and let's just go back to the Chinese Hillary donation issue shall we? She said the whole thing smelled as bad as "stinky tofu" (chou dofu)which is quite tasty actually. Now let's say instead of poor Chinese we had been talking about poor blacks and she had said it smells as bad as burnt fried chicken and rotten watermelons--do you think she would have gotten away with this? Don't you think it a bit odd she used this term?

Sorry Larry
Sorry Larry, what else do you expect from LIBERALS??????????????

We've got presidential candidates who
don't believe in the Constitution, and Akagi's reminding us that the tofu doesn't taste as bad as it smells. Is this true for Obama and Hillary, too?

Akagi is kidding right
How painfully innocuous. Regardless, unless it was Jane Fonda saying it, people calling MM a G**k C*** was probably a bit extreme, even for a liberal. And who likes rotten watermelon anyway?

RichD & JR: Helloooo, it's Akagi...

Akagi is ALWAYS kidding... right? LOL

(Psst, he really is always kidding, isn't he?? Whoa... never occurred to me that he might be **serious**. Now THAT'S a scary thought!)

A Question
Where are all the libs????

As usual they hide from the truth and by their silence defend the indefensible.

Not only does this prove Jonah Goldberg's book about fascist liberals, it also proves who truly is the party of racists....Democrats!

Don't worry Mr.Elders we have your back.

Its a shame but..
I think the anger from a lot of people in the African-American community towards you Mr. Elder is that you market this book on platforms that aren't representive of the community. Specifically, platforms involving white analysts and hosts. To me its sort of like someone going around and talking bad about my family to other people who aren't part of my family. You can tell my family about itself to our face, but don't do it in the company of those who aren't one of us.

Also I would like to say that as a successful african american, I agree with you that White Racism is not a significant force in what is holding back the black community. Have I been faced with racism? yes, Have I been pre-judged because of my skin in the past? yes. But the wonderful thing about this country is that I am still able to make something of myself even in the face of those obsticals. My theory, is that we didn't we didn't have to go through what those in the civil rights era went through. So we aren't owed an apology by those who were not in that era either. what we must focus on, is appreciating that era, and using the opportunities afforded by us to make the most of our selves. Nothing is perfect by any means, but as we continue to push the envelope as a country, we will continue to make progress in that direction.

Akagi
Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder perhaps taste buds are the same.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe MM hates stinky tofu? Besides she was referencing the smell not the taste, hence the name stinky tofu!

I hate it as well.

Twinkie Girl
I would say calling her a GC is extreme, making the point she seems to have issues with being in her own skin is fair comment.

No one likes it I suppose--the point is that she went out of her way to inject race into the issue when the issue had nothing to do with it...something MM does over and over again.

And Anne unless I say otherwise, I am always serious.

Hatred
Leave it to Akaqi to bring up fried chicken and watermelons....sterotypes,anyone?

Dofu
Rich:

Most Dofu doesn't have a smell at all, but Chou dofu does--it smells as the name says it smells--stinky, but it tastes good--I like mine with A1 sauce. It is not easily found in the US I might add.

Rowly
That is EXACTLY THE POINT!!!! You moron!

The sterotype among black diets is the joke about fried chicken and watermelon, now would TG have gotten away with her comments if she had been talking about claims of poor blacks giving to Hillary--in amounts they could assume would not have been able to afford and used the phrase fried chicken and watermelon, but she gets a pass for using a Chinese one? It is the same exact thing. Or are you too stupid to understand this?

The Sage Knows!!
Great commentary, Sage.

My guess, as with your hate mail, Mr. Kirkpatrick's hate mail is mostly blacks using the word "n-----".

Interestingly, most whites have dropped it from their vocabulary, but somehow manage to get all the credit for its use. I am an old-timer that works and lives around white people of all ages and stripes, but never hear the term, anymore, except from the occasional black.

I figure when Mr. Kirkpatrick offers that he has never been called a "n-----" so many times, he is exploiting the Liberal assumption that it is coming from whites, hoping to get him Liberal sympathies. Unfortunately, it will probably work - maybe even another tour in office.

A1 Sauce?!
Isn't that for peopple who can't cook and make their own sauces? Or have to disguise the taste of their cooking failures?

Well, Anne, now you know...it's like using name-calling to disguise intellectual blandness.

Akaqi
You brought up fried chicken and watermelon. Was that supposed to be negative? Why did you bring it up ,then? Michell didn't.

Living in the south,I probably eat more fried chicken and watermelon that most blacks, since I grow the melons. What is your problem?

As for the 'moron'comment,I consider the source and expect no better.

When ignorance attacks ....
Larry - you KNOW you are speaking the truth and on the right track when ignorance attacks you.

You, Bill Cosby, and other courageous voices of the African-American community are shining examples to ALL Americans (black, white, purple..).

Thank you and keep up the good work!

RichD: YIKES! Akagi says he's cereal??

Unless he says otherwise.....

YUP, now we know!!!!!!

Somehow it was easier to "take him seriously" when we weren't sure.

(Sorry, now that we know HE takes himself quite seriously, it's going to be even harder to read his posts without at least a chuckle!)

Hey Rowly: You a moron?? I had no clue!

Probably because your posts have pretty much been spot on, intelligent, and sometimes pretty funny too!

Oh well... LOL

Larry's e-mails
I'm betting those e-mails come from lilly's credentialed teachers in California. That tone seems to compare to the product they develop.

P.S. Akagi. 8 years in Asian countries and I dislike any tofu. But I am Black, eat fried chicken, watermelon, and crawdads.

Bludgeoned by Truth
Likely a good portion of the letters to Mr. Elder come from those mentored into the "Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Louis Farakhan, Jeremiah Wright" race baiters mold...like "the Obama", who's reached maturity & is ready to continue the "victimization" tradition on a national scale. Thank you Mr. Elder, perhaps this righteous sledgehammer of truth will open some eyes.

Anne
First time for that one.Been called a lot of things,though...For a little comic relief..check out..[ Boo got shot on youtube]...Let me know how you like it.

Amazing ...
One Liberal shows up and wants to change the subject of commenting on the article to talking about another writer's article. I used to tell my kids that I appreciated their answer to a question I did not ask.

Akagi, we were talking about Mr. Elder's article on how abused he is for telling the truth. Somehow commenting on Michelle Malkin makes no sense ... so thanks for talking about something we were not discussing. And, you are the real moron, until you the whole set of comments were on focus. Takes a Liberal to try to divert attention from the real issue.

Trying to have intelligent conversations here amid all of the liberal trolls reminds me of being stuck at an upperclass cocktail party given by a harmless philanthropist matron that we all love and trying to fend her untrained dogs who keep "socializing" our wives legs. We are too polite to say anything to her or leave the party early, but no matter how many times we rap the dogs on the nose, they fail to get the message.

[I shared this on another thread, but the problem here is the same. Rich]

Rowly: Oh gee, I've been called a moron

a lot of times, and yes, some other choice things.

Heck, Akagi has called me more than a few choice things (obviously he has no sense of humor.)

And, yes that was a pretty funny video... LOL

Anne, Rowley
Akagi is not a citizen. He assumes he is a philosopher, historian (Far Eastern history, primarily), and legal expert. He speaks of the citizens of our country in the third person and, recently, said he views our country with "apathy". I have started scrolling past his rants on his dissatifaction with every thing American and in America.

Akagi: How do you say "Take a hike" in your language and dialect? Don't tell me, just stand in front of a mirror and repeat it until you faint. When you get back to your feet, repeat the process.

wow - the level of hate is unbelievable
Dear Mr. Elder:
I had no idea your mail from liberals was so hateful. Your only consolation, I guess, is that their clearly stupid mistakes in grammar, etc. show how ignorant they are. Or how unhinged with hate. Or both.

Either way, my congratulations to you for continuing to speak the truth in spite of harassment, vilification and racial slurs. Your maturity and perseverance look even better next to their childish and bigoted vitriol.

Thank you for your always well-written columns. Keep up the good fight, sir.

I'm Trying to Figure how Food
-- got into the discussion.

But since we're talking about food now, for what it's worth, chittlin's is NASTY, both in smell AND taste.

The really scary thing about chitterlings is, knowing what it's made from, then hearing people say how they hate buying it in from butchers in the big city, because those city folk "clean all the flavor out."

Ewwwwwww

Akagi
All due respect, but you do know that "Twinkie" is a(nother) racial slur, right? Am not sure whether you want to continue to be known as a bigot on these boards. Please stop the anti-Asian (or in Michelle's case, anti-Filipino) invective.

Speaking in terms of _your_ own interests, perhaps you would get more people to read your posts (I stopped at "Twinkie" because I don't read the opinions of people who are clearly bigots) if you'd lay off the slurs. Thanks.

Unca Alby
Well I hate pecan pie. And anchovies. And garbanzo beans. So there!!

Courage
I thought it took courage to put a Bush bumper sticker on my car during the last election. I live in Taxachusetts.

Courage is being a black conservative. Thank you for your courage, Mr. Elder. I plan to read the book.

I was Valedictorian of my high school class last century, so I can read. I've noticed that in this century people are taught to write (spelling, grammar optional) rather than to read.

I got away with one in the liberal PA
I had a special bumper sticker made with photos of both Gore and Edwards on it. The text read:

DON'T FORGET
FLUSH THE JOHNS

Rich D.
If you haven't seen it yet..check out[[ John Edwards ,I feel pretty on youtube....]] Funny stuff.

Hey Larry, check my spelling
Larry,

Anecdotal examples pale when contrasted by consistent, systemic facts which, not surprisingly, are missing from your article. Thus it behooves me to ask: What’s your point? What exactly are you trying to prove by supplying readers with unverifiable “evidence” of black racism/ignorance?

Certainly, I hope it is not your narrative’s goal, via these bleak anecdotes, to somehow illustrate proof that the only racism plaguing America and Americans is that promulgated by this nation’s comparatively powerless African-American citizens. If so, there is little that can be conveyed to someone whose eyes are “wide shut” (you) by those of us whose eyes are wide open, about just how ludicrously off-kilter that position is.

The grim specter of self-loathing, blatantly evident in your book’s title, Mr. Elder, says it all: you seem to subscribe to the position that the race problem in this country is the result of millions of misguided African-Americans who, in their unbridle ignorance; fail to realize that there is no race problem in this country.

It goes without saying how utterly foolish a premise this is. Nonetheless, it remains a tidy, self-serving fantasy on which to hang your apparently convoluted sense of self-pride, Mr. Elder. And, having such a premise come from the mind of an apparent “black” man helplessly locked in denial about the true state of African-Americans in this country, this fantasy goes a long way toward assuaging the wholly justified white guilt likely experienced by many, if not all of the obsequious sycophants who read your columns.

Beyond that however, the point of your article seems to be epitomized by its basic pointlessness.

Controversy Sells...
dont be fooled by Mr. L. Elder, because he knows exactly what he is doing. He is straight from the mold of the people he claims to dispise and calls "race hustlers" (jackson/sharpton). the only difference is he does it in reverse against his own people by posing as a "black conservative" and saying witty things like:

"The book makes the point, among other things, that white racism no longer poses a significant hurdle to black progress and achievement. Apparently many blacks disagree."

yeah right Larry D. as if you didnt know that in the first place? get real dude...

larry d. knows that white repub/cons eat this kind of stuff up with their charges blacks/minorites "being the lazy, no account, babymaking, criminal minded begging for a handout lot they are", particulary when it comes from a one of their own kind, black man.

and like his peers such as Ann Coulter, he knows
"a sucker is born everyday"...so yeah repubs/cons run out and buy his book, while
mr. l. elder lays back and counts the big bucks$$$$ coming his way ...the irony being that you white repubs/cons just got conned by that very person you so detest: a black race hustler.

btw: those comments from the blacks who read his book, he deserved evey bit of the derision he recieves for very obviou reasons $$$$$$$$$$$ he IS traitor to his race and above all a sellout.

violet
That is just sick and wrong. ; )

A Dirty Little Secret...

Law Enforcement has asked the Mayor of Detroit to give them the evidence... so they can prosecute.

No Way ?

The Mayor's "Mail-bag" of N-words come from Whites and Blacks alike in Detoit. And these folks "Are Not" Republicans!

If the Mayor were to show this "Hate-Mail", he would dispell the "Myths" that Republicans are Racists.

Blacks would have to question their allegiance to the Mayor, and realize for once in their lives...

Democrats are the real "Uncle Toms".

It's a game
Left Angle,

You are right. Elder knows exactly what he is doing. And so do I. It's called "pimping the Uncle Tom game."

It's a quite lucrative, albeit souless, endeavor for which Mr. Elder finds himself perfectly suited.

non_prophet
Wow, look at the brain on you! All those 75 cent words to show how you misread Larry's words.

LobaAzul
You are right. Due to the bush recession, what used to be $2 dollar words are now worth just about 75 cents.

But why not help raise the value of my words by telling me how I misread "Larry's words."

lilly, robert, beastie boy
Where are you? Where is your defense of the indefensible slander uttered against Larry Elder by your liberal compatriots?

Some day, perhaps in the next life, many liberals will finally realize that they have done more to intellectually and economically enslave blacks and minorities than anyone since the post-resconstruction southern state governments (i.e, the Jim Crow era). Then there will be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth.

LobaAzul
LobaAzul writes: Thursday, April, 03, 2008 3:49 PM : "violet - That is just sick and wrong. ; )"

non-prophet can't see a thing
You write: Beyond that however, the point of your article seems to be epitomized by its basic pointlessness.

My response: Your inability to understand the common sense writings of Mr. Elder speaks much more about you that it does about him.

Left Angle
And what other race would be better at critiqing destructive black behavior? Then, you would be here screaming "Racist!", "Biggot!" Give it a rest.

Just got back over here
Still glad to see all the enlightenment going on. The longer this race goes on the more innocent liberals learn they are tied to the party of racists. Mrs. Clinton, you must carry this race to it's logical conclusion. Don't even thing about quiting

chibilink,
You said, " But the wonderful thing about this country is that I am still able to make something of myself even in the face of those obsticals..."

First off, the word is "obstacles."

Secondly, EVERYONE, regardless of race, is ALWAYS being judged by someone for something whether it be weight, height, acne, hair style/color, clothing, and on and on and on....it never ends. EVERYONE can rise above it and make something of themselves. Personally I have no respect or empathy for those who play into the victim role or use whatever they have been judged about as as excuse to complain about not being treated (according to them anyway) fairly.

Sigh!!
THRadio,

The article is pointless. Period. Just get over it.

I could spend half the day compiling anecdotal examples of ignorant statements by whites, but in doing so, I'd never be able prove to you that whites as a group are ignorant racists.

Elder does the opposite, and you call it "common sense."

Soooo, what does that say about you?

Ken,
"Takes a Liberal to try to divert attention from the real issue."

Exactly like Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick!

zedsmon: a question
doesnt it strike you odd that when repubs/cons talk about "handouts and free stuff liberal entitlement programs" the absolutely NEVER mention poor whites..its always blacks/hispanics etc...why dont you guys ever criticize them?

oh i know.. "its that ratio to the population thing..right?

btw: i bet you bought a copy of Larry E's book

Now, I'm going to read a good book. I'm re-reading "Small Gods" by Terry Pratchett. He also makes lots of $$$$$$$ writing good books.

Rich,

Your right. Please don't "pet" me. Just rebut me. If you can.

I'm not here trolling. Elder's article is pointless and it take someone like me to point that out to you. If you feel otherwise, fire away with your rebuttal.

Otherwise......

NancyM: i have nothing against$$$$
hey I'm a capitalist without a doubt...

I was just pointing out the finer points of
"race hustling" to the praisers of "black conservative" Mr. Larry L-Dog..it's a two way street and it amuses me that they dont know they are getting conned by a reverse "race hustler". lol

non-prophet, yes but . . .
the point is that if whites say these things, then they are denounced, pummeled and forced to grovel for "forgiveness" at the feet of imbeciles such as Al Sharpton (i.e., Don Imus). But blacks and "enlightened" liberals can say whatever they want and they get a free pass.

Here is the common sense I was referring to. The real problems facing the black community are: 70% illegitimacy, substance abuse, crime against each other, and a severe bias against education. NONE of these problems are the result of racism. ALL of these problems come from a lack of leadership (in families, neighborhoods, communities and nation). When Bill Cosby "reveals" this common sense, he is dismissed. When Larry Elder does the same, he is reviled. Why? Because personal accountability is the tough medicine that few want to swallow. Perpetual victimhood is so much easier. Thus, blacks immigrating from Africa today can figure out the American dream and send their kids to Harvard is just one or two generations. But blacks who have been here for many, many generations languish under the failed policies of democrats and liberals.

non_intelligent: Well, how about you

referring to Mr. Elder as an "uncle Tom."

I think you proved his point... and certainly verified that there really are vile, vitriolic, offensive, ignorant people out there who would, in fact, email exactly what Elder posted in his column.

Just a little obvious when you and left angle and other ignorant people single out those who have done so well for themselves as traitors to their "own kind."

Thank you so much.

How good of you and your ilk... rather than be encouraging and want everyone to prosper, it's obvious that you would rather have people you can look down on... and pity...

non_prophet
Mr.Elder is being castigated by other blacks because he is "not stayin'down on the farm".He is not supposed to stray and for God's sake he is not supposed to criticize his own race!!

He is treated just like all blacks who have lifted themselves up ,all by themselves, and he has pride in his success. Therefore,he is the enemy.

Bill Cosby has tried it.He was funny, and loved, until he tried to show his compadres where they were going wrong. Now he is the mortal enemy.

All some people want is a pat on the back and another hand-out. There are some whites who live the same way, true. They are low-class,trash and if they are able to work, they should. There is SOMETHING almost everyone can do,if they will just do it.

Anne: I call em like I see em..
and its funny i never heare you criticize poor whites like you dont beleive they exist..how IGNORANT of you..

Non_prophet, please proof read
Since you asked, and I'm sure Larry has better things to do, I checked your spelling.

"in their unbridle ignorance" s/b "unbridled"

The rest of your post, and that of your "yeah, what he said!" liberal buddies, does not warrant comment.

jr: a question
whats your opinion on poor whites?

do you agree that they are beholding to the republican party for "handouts and free stuff"?

"Poor Whites?"

There are "Poor White" Democrats and "Poor White" Republicans.

I have learned how to tell them apart...

The Republicans are generaly Happy, smiling, and content. They are comfortable with their own mortality. And never feel "entitled" to take another's property or cheat a friend.

The Democrats rarely smile (unless the boss comes by). Are unusually vain in their belief that the opposite sex finds them attractive. And they regularly show their middle finger in the rear-view mirror after cutting off an innocent motorist (faded Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker is a good hint).

You demand "systemic facts" and yet, your own conclusions are based on nothing of the sort:

"Certainly, I hope it is not your narrative’s goal, via these bleak anecdotes, to somehow illustrate proof that the only racism plaguing America and Americans is that promulgated by this nation’s comparatively powerless African-American citizens."

"the only racism"?? Where did he say that?

"If so, there is little that can be conveyed to someone whose eyes are “wide shut” (you) by those of us whose eyes are wide open, about just how ludicrously off-kilter that position is."

No evidence of his eyes being "wide shut". Also, no evidence of your eyes being "wide open". (Well, aren't you uber-enlighted!)

"The grim specter of self-loathing, blatantly evident in your book’s title, Mr. Elder,"

This is more likely a bit of projection on your part. There is no evidence of self-loathing by Mr. Elder.

"says it all: you seem to subscribe ... that there is no race problem in this country."

Nowhere does Mr. Elder indicate that he believes there is no race problem in this country.

"... your apparently convoluted sense of self-pride, Mr. Elder."

Huh? Didn't you just say he was self-loathing? Can you point to where he expressed pride in this column?

"an apparent “black” man helplessly locked in denial about the true state of African-Americans in this country"

Black Americans aren't a monolithic group in many areas like education, political affiliation, economic success, etc. Isn't the "true state" of any individual subjective? Why would your view be any more valid than his?

The truth is, there are blacks who strive to succeed and there are blacks who prefer to remain victims.

Based on what you've written here today, I suspect your reasoning skills are underdeveloped.

THE PROBLEM WITH WHITE FOLKS

....White folks have been conditioned, for the last fifty year, by white Liberal Socialist educators, to feel guilty just for being white ...white folks, like Pavlov's dogs, break into a cold sweat when accused of racism ...

.....White folks are blamed for all the ills of the World, from Global Warming to Aids in Africa, and they just take it and feel guilty about it ...such wimps ...

.....White History, as opposed to Black History, catalogues all of the evil things that can be attributed to whites, but none of the good things ...no wonder we have so many White Liberals on guilt trips ...

.....If it is racist to feel pride in your race then why is there a Black History Month, why not Asian History Month, European History etc. etc.
...if a White group held a White Pride Day, would that be racist ...to not be proud of your own race is a denial of self ...everyone should be proud of their own race without being called a racist ...

.....White folks ought to ball up and stop being cowed by the race hustlers ...white folks have borne this stigmata long enough .....COLOSSUS

Non-prophet and his errant semicolon
"you seem to subscribe to the position that the race problem in this country is the result of millions of misguided African-Americans who, in their unbridle ignorance; fail to realize that there is no race problem in this country."

I hate to pile on, but I am afraid spelling might be the least of your worries. As my grammar says, "the semicolon is an effective mark of punctuation if it is used sparingly." Please, use a semicolon only to separate independent clauses. Rule: if you can't find a subject, don't use a semicolon.

grammar, spelling and punctuation
Please y'all, this stuff isn't supposed to be an example of perfect English. We all make errors but only when it obscures the intended message, is it a problem.

Give it a rest.

Nothing personal
Sorry Loba, but it wasn't personal. I have a problem with semicolon abuse. And, besides, he asked.

bravo Larry Elder!
On a recent talk show he made the following comment about racism; "This is no longer our father's or grandfather's America." What a brave man!

Mr elder
Im sorry that the animals on the left are so personal and low blowing on the emails and attacks on you.

Its very little surprise that this is how the left works. and makes successful blacks wonder why there no longer accepted in there old areas of living. Unless your coming to give a " i feel guilt for working hard and making the american dream true for me " tax to the local church that will take the check and that very sunday call those who give uncle toms. Whitey's house N and so on as seen on his emails posted .

The left seriously needs to be minimalized to a much smaller group or this great country is in trouble.

Peter O

Hate Mail
Anyone who is in the public eye is subjected to hate mail (and probably a lot of crazy mail too!) To trot it out like Kwame did to stir the pot is unforgivable.

LobaAzul,
For obvious reasons, I'll avoid responding to each of your responses. I'll simply focus on your conclusion that you find my reasoning skills "underdeveloped."

Fair enough.

But I'd ask you to read it again. Elder is saying absolutely nothing. Detroit's mayor complains about the hate mail he gets and Elder's response is to post a sort if "tit-for-tat" article complaining about the hate mail HE gets -- complete with excerpts.

All pundits get hate mail, including black ones.

To be clear, my evaluation of Elder's motivations spring from the sheer pointlessness of his piece. Considering how deeply fatuous an article it is, what choice is there?

Clearly Elder's objective here is to offer anecdotal examples of hate mail he gets from fellow African-Americans to imply that blacks hate the concept of self-reliance promoted by Elder. By doing so, he also assists in furthering the stereotypical image of blacks as unwilling to work hard but all to willing to use the mythical "race card."

Who cares about Kwame Kilpatrick? Certainly not the majority of Detroit's black community which wants to see him go. Yet Elder presents the Kilpatrick's idiotic behavior, including hate mail complaints, as if it represents the prototype for the behavior of blacks in general.

Does the fact that Larry Elder receives hate mail from fellow blacks due to a provocatively titled book infested with simplistic and stereotypical thinking relate in any way to the behavior of Kwame Kilpatrick? Nope.

And, is Kwame Kilpatrick's actions reflective of the standard for behavior one might expect from black Americans? Of course not. It's the kind of behavior one will find in a percentage of the population of any racial group in this country. Some people are just screw-ups, period.

That's why Elder's column is pointless.

datruf
hanks for the grammar lesson. I'm man enough to say that I stand corrected and certainly will do so right now.

(And props to Shattah206, who found the typo, too)

I'm wondering though. Other than an errant semi-colon and a "d" which is missing in action, what is the REAL problem you have with my point?

If that's all you've got, then I guess you agree with me.

BTW

LobaAzul: Thanks for the comment about "giving it a rest." ;)

BTW
Anne: "non_intelligent" I LOVED that one. A real knee-slapper. Seriously.

But I don't believe I actually CALLED Elder an Uncle Tom. I did, however, say that he was pimping the Uncle Tom game by making a whole lot of moolah off folks like you by giving speeches and pitching books and articles which are clearly designed to make black people angry and white people feel gooooood!

THSRadio: I really respect you for your response even though we clearly disagree. I think that we both agree about the problems affecting the black community that you mentioned. However, where we veer off is on the issue of the reasons and solutions. You believe that NONE of these problems stem from racism. I get the impression that you hold that view not because you are anti-black or anything, but perhaps because your knowledge base unfortunately doesn't include the kinds of difficulties with which many decent, hardworking, law-abiding blacks much contend not only from those within our race, but from whites as well.

ROWLEY: To be perfectly honest with you, I really couldn't understand your point. But the part about Elder "lifting himself up" thus being castigated by fellow blacks kind of jumps out at me particularly when Elder's means of "lifting himself up" has been by writing books and articles and giving speeches for which the main point is to relentlessly castigate blacks. I think anyone subjected to the manner of criticism employed by Elder is justified in expressing a spirited rebuttal. Plus, Elder is a big boy both physically and, I assume, emotionally. He can handle being castigated on the way to the bank.

I'm calling it night.

Ciao!

Left Angle -- Poor Whites
"doesnt it strike you odd that when repubs/cons talk about "handouts and free stuff liberal entitlement programs" the absolutely NEVER mention poor whites..its always blacks/hispanics etc...why dont you guys ever criticize them?"

Tell you what --

When the topic of welfare or liberal entitlement programs come up, and mainstream media STOP seeking out the likes of Jackson, Sharpton, and Mfume to stick microphones in their faces, pumping them for their take about how blacks are impacted by these programs or lack thereof -- THEN you can complain about conservatives complaining about it.

This is not a Democrat/Republican thing. Liberals (Socialists) want entitlements for everybody. Conservatives want entitlements for nobody. But no matter who brings the subject up, whether it's a conservative columnist on Townhall or a liberal commentator on the mainstream media, the discussion *ALWAYS* assumes we're talking about minorities.

Don't blame us. The New York Times is the one who sets the nationwide agenda. Show me the New York Times article about entitlements that doesn't prop up some poor suffering blacks and/or Hispanics as a means to generate sympathy.

Left Angle -- Evidence Please
"larry d. knows that white repub/cons eat this kind of stuff up with their charges blacks/minorites "being the lazy, no account, babymaking, criminal minded begging for a handout lot they are", particulary when it comes from a one of their own kind, black man."

Show me these charges.

non_prophet --
"Due to the bush recession,"

A "recession" is defined as three successive quarters of negative growth. Using that definition, THERE IS NO RECESSION, "bush" or otherwise.

Kindly take your Bush-bashing rhetoric back to Daily Koz, where you'll find an audience more appreciative of baseless charges.

non_prophet -- pointlessness
NP: "All pundits get hate mail, including black ones."

I'll remind you of a couple lines from the column:

LE: "Please, pass the Kleenex. A victim of white racism?"

I.e., the good mayor is playing the "race card" -- badly.

LE: "But so far, at least in my case, no indictment appears forthcoming."

I.e., the good mayor is playing the "race card" in an attempt to wiggle out of the consequences of his actions -- badly.

Thus -- the point of the column. Obvious enough to anyone who's toes haven't been tagged.

I will agree with one thing, which I've already stated; Larry certainly didn't need to show *so much* of his hate mail.

As an Asian,
let me tell you, Akagi is an idiot. As for Left Angle and nonprophet, their view of racism depends on whether the victim is a (D) or an (R). Racism if the victim is a (D). If the victim is an (R), it was somehow their fault. Narrow minded (racist) pinheads.

Not a prophet, and humorless, too -1
Don't worry, I don't pet strange dogs, and don't want your fleas. Do you want your non-sense rebutted?

First, there is no recession, so you get an "F" in Econ 101. That statement just showed you irrelevant bias.

Now that we've established your ignorance on one subject, and the fact that you hate Bush, let's move on.

Hey Larry, check my spelling
Larry,

Anecdotal examples pale when contrasted by consistent, systemic facts which, not surprisingly, are missing from your article.

Systemic or systematic? Either way, the sentence fails to make sense. One also contrasts "with", not "by".

"Thus it behooves me to ask: What’s your point? What exactly are you trying to prove by supplying readers with unverifiable “evidence” of black racism/ignorance?"

Ah, you didn't get the contrast, did you? Also, if you are going to call the evidence "unverifiable", you need not put the word evidence in quotes - that's redundant.

Not a prophet, and humorless, too -2
"Certainly, I hope it is not your narrative’s goal, via these bleak anecdotes, to somehow illustrate proof that the only racism plaguing America and Americans is that promulgated by this nation’s comparatively powerless African-American citizens."

Where do we start? The "pale" anecdotes have morphed to "bleak", which means you now accept them as depressing.

"If so, there is little that can be conveyed to someone whose eyes are “wide shut” (you) by those of us whose eyes are wide open, about just how ludicrously off-kilter that position is."

As "wide shut" was not in the article, you are guilty of misquoting, lying, or ignorant of the proper use of quotation marks. Using the editorial "we" to refer to your brilliant self means that you are attempting to argue from superior numbers, a logical fallacy. Now, your conclusion is that anyone who cites depressing examples of ignorance is himself so ignorant that even you and your army can't teach him anything. I'm not sure that you can see the error in drawing such a conclusion - perhaps the rest of your army can help. Furthermore, his examples do not represent his position. You need help with premises, logic, rhetoric, evidence, and proof.

Not a prophet, and humorless, too -3
"The grim specter of self-loathing, blatantly evident in your book’s title, Mr. Elder, says it all:"

My gosh - pale, bleak, grim specters - Hamlet would be astonished! Self-loathing - a conclusion based on a description of others? How is a guy who chooses a self-denigrating screen handle justified making such unverifiable allegations of another over a book title?

"...you seem to subscribe to the position that the race problem in this country is the result of millions of misguided African-Americans who, in their unbridle [sic] ignorance; [sic] fail to realize that there is no race problem in this country. It goes without saying how utterly foolish a premise this is."

What goes without saying is how foolish it is to postulate such an inane premise based on thin air, as nothing in the article stated that.

"Nonetheless, it remains a tidy, self-serving fantasy on which to hang your apparently convoluted sense of self-pride, Mr. Elder."

A non sequitur, as the fantasy is in your head only.

"And, having such a premise come from the mind of an apparent “black” man helplessly locked in denial about the true state of African-Americans in this country, this fantasy goes a long way toward assuaging the wholly justified white guilt likely experienced by many, if not all of the obsequious sycophants who read your columns."

There you go again - the fantasy is in your mind, so you must be the apparent "black" man in denial.

Not a prophet, and humorless, too -4
"Beyond that however, the point of your article seems to be epitomized by its basic pointlessness."

The point is epitomized by its pointlessness?

I think that I have figured you out - at the dentist's the other day, you read a 1976 Reader's Digest "It Pays to Increase Your Word Power" article, and told yourself that you were going to use every new word in the next few days. Right?

BTW, I apologize for insulting your intelligence by treating your rant as though you really believe what you wrote.

Sorry.

Epilogue
I say “to-may-to,” you say to-mah-to. I say “Missou-ree,” you say “Missou-ruh.” The bottom line? We both understand what the other is saying.

So, to all the ex-School Marms and Grammar Class Teachers’ Pets out there, I acknowledge that while you are absolutely fabulous at pointing out grammatical errors, etc., you are also woefully lacking in the area of rebuttal.

It’s interesting that the focus of my criticism of Elder is on grammar, not content. Perhaps amongst Townies, valid criticism of poor grammar de-legitimizes valid arguments about the subject or topic at hand.

Don’t get me wrong. I do not object to valid criticism and, quite frankly, some of the grammatical criticism directed my way is legit. That said I’m sitting here hoping that if one of you Townies scratches your head long enough, after you decipher through the poor grammar you will figure out a way to rebut my premises, which are:

1. That Elder’s article, which consists of a list of ugly anecdotes involving hate mail that he, like any pundit or public figure receives, is both a pointless and simple-minded endeavor
2. That support for his viewpoints he receives from whites in particular, is based on the “feel good” characteristic that simple-minded criticism of blacks brings to certain segments of society
3. That Elder serves as a sort of reverse race hustler -- the conservative movement’s version of Al Sharpton, if you will.
4. That Elder is pimping the Uncle Tom game and that those who buy into his game are, quite frankly, his best whores.

Now, my positions may, indeed be fully refutable, but until one of you Townies climbs off the Grammar Wagon and hops aboard the Content Train, I guess we will never find out.

BTW

To Rich: I don’t buy your “dentist office” point for a minute. You sound like you’re impressed. As far as “insulting my intelligence,” that would be quite difficult for you to do. Remember, it takes intelligence to evaluate intelligence.

no profit
My critique was on your lack of logic, sense, eisegesis, and misquotations the author. Your response is content-free and nothing more than a restatement of your original assertions, many of which are opinion and name-calling, and therefore not debatable. That does not constitute an argument, and name-calling takes no intelligence.

Profitless and prophetless
Last time (for me, anyway):

"1. That Elder’s article, which consists of a list of ugly anecdotes involving hate mail that he, like any pundit or public figure receives, is both a pointless and simple-minded endeavor"

No debate possible. This is pure opinion and implies that the author had no purpose, when the contrast to another public figure was clearly given. You lose.

"2. That support for his viewpoints he receives from whites in particular, is based on the “feel good” characteristic that simple-minded criticism of blacks brings to certain segments of society"

Unsubstantiated, and requires prophetic knowledge of support that wasn't reported in the article and knowledge of the mindset of his supporters, if any. This is not a premise, nor even opinion, but pure speculation. You lose.

"3. That Elder serves as a sort of reverse race hustler -- the conservative movement’s version of Al Sharpton, if you will."

I won't. Unsubstianted, and not evident from anything reported in the article. Notinh in the article referenced Sharpton. If you want this treated as a premise, then you need to state it as such and provide evidence of the characteristics and roles of both, and not under this article's banner. You lose.

"4. That Elder is pimping the Uncle Tom game and that those who buy into his game are, quite frankly, his best whores."

Pure personal attacks and name-calling, disallowed in polite debate as intellectually dishonest. Poisoning the well, ad hominem, straw men, and regarding the article topic, a non sequitur. Inflammatory speech. Also implies special knowledge of his supporters, if any. See last remark for Item 3 above. You lose.

Score: zero.

Rich D
Apparently, you are not very familiar with Mr. Elder's entire body of work. Do yourself a favor and research comments he's made about his (and my) fellow blacks.

The same types of comments coming from a white person would be considered racist.

The same types of comments made by a black person about whites would be considered racist.

But for those of your ilk, any disparaging statements made about blacks in general, particularly coming from a "black" man seems to be acceptable.

Sorry Rich. I won't tolerate such ridiculously racist commentary regardless of who makes them or to whom they are directed. And I will continue to assert my right to criticize such remarks until such time as individuals like you cease to function as the enablers for transparent race-hustlers like Elder, who’s main goal seems to be to enrich himself by functioning as some kind of racial agent provocateur.

As for your demand for full point-by-point explanations of the reasons for my assertions, I'm sure you are aware that this forum is not the place for that. Do a little background checking of Elder, and you will better understand my points.

"...like Elder, whose main goal..."

look both ways before talking
1. That Elder’s article, which consists of a list of ugly anecdotes involving hate mail that he, like any pundit or public figure receives, is both a pointless and simple-minded endeavor
Comment: Please provide a list of pundits or public figures that have received this type of hate mail & several samples of it to validate this point.
2. That support for his viewpoints he receives from whites in particular, is based on the “feel good” characteristic that simple-minded criticism of blacks brings to certain segments of society
Comment: Please comment how you might know what motivates people to support his views. This is your opinion only, your speculation...which liberals always seem to mistake for facts.
3. That Elder serves as a sort of reverse race hustler -- the conservative movement’s version of Al Sharpton, if you will.
Comment: Your opinion again, not fact; my opinion is Elder's mission is to improve the black community; but I can't claim that as fact either.
4. That Elder is pimping the Uncle Tom game and that those who buy into his game are, quite frankly, his best whores.
Comment: You might choose to call people who support what many of us honestly believe is the cause of helping black people as "whores". That's your choice, but what should we call the supporters of Sharpton, Jackson, Wright & Farrakhan.

"...Elder, whose main goal..."

Kudos to you Mr Elders!
I have a lot of respect for you.

I was born and raised in Detroit and still live in the area. Kwame Kilpatrick is a younger version of Coleman Young. Race relations became worse under their leadership.

Little publicized fact - Kwame was losing in the polls by a significant margin to Freeman Hendrix who was deputy mayor to Dennis Archer (the finest mayor Detroit had in my lifetime).

Just before the election Rosa Parks died, then Kwame received all the photo ops from the visiting dignitaries. This, in my humble estimation, is why Kwame was reelected. I'm sure many voters regret not electing Freeman Hendrix.

Kwame's pride and arrogance will not allow him to do the right thing and step down and spare Detroit further embarrassment. Christine Beatty quickly fell on her sword.

Rich D. doesn't need to do any more research of Mr. Elder's work than whatever he may have already done. I have. I have listened to his radio show and purchased some of his books. I plan to purchase more as time and money permit.

Rich's analysis is spot on. His posting was a much better rebuttal to yours than I was able to think of. Good show, Rich.

non_prophet's score, to paraphrase Rich D., remains at zero.

np: "The same types of comments coming from a white person would be considered racist."

This is part of Elder's message, a part you apparently missed in your quest to completely dismiss everything he's said, probably because it hits too close to home. Anybody who dares speak this kind of truth about the state of race relations in this country will be branded. Only the "PC" side is accepted without question.

If the person is white, he'll be branded a racist. If the person is black, he'll be branded a self-hater, an uncle tom, a house negro, a sell-out.

np: "I won't tolerate such ridiculously racist commentary"

I should like to hear some rationale of what makes this commentary racist.

Kwame Didn't Have Sex With That Woman
Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick pulled a Bill Clinton, an unusual role for a black republican, then again, Clinton is the first black President so Kwame felt a bipartisan kinship of sorts. Both women Bill's girlfriend and Kwame's married girlfriend were government employees. How hot is that. Sultry text messages, sperm on black dresses, lurid sexy stuff.
However, Kwame had to play the race card, didn't he, just like your book title says Larry and he will lose this one.
If you notice he said he was called the n-word the most times in his life in the last 30 days, but stopped short of saying whom specifically called him names.
And to think all those lurid text messages on a non-secured line, how smart are we?

Larry Elder and Kwame
People would rather die than admit that they share responsibility for their condition. I have listened to Larry Elder many times and have never heard him deny the existence of bigotry. His point is that people will overcome racism by the power of their own efforts not by depending on others. Wasn't that thesis shared by Elijah Mohammed? Hasn't Louis Farrakhan said much the same when exhorting Black people to transform their circumstances?
It seems to me that when you boil down the different styles of rhetoric there is a common theme. On the subject of getting ahead Elder and the others are not preaching satanism. They are preaching self-sufficiency.

Well, I did just that and you liked the tune so much that you simply danced away into the night:

"As for your demand for full point-by-point explanations of the reasons for my assertions, I'm sure you are aware that this forum is not the place for that."

Obviously, as it just exposed the emptiness of your positions and your hypocrisy in asking for content, but not wanting to give any in return. Didn't your mommy tell you to be careful what you ask for?

Unca Alby, thanks.

You hit the nail on the head - the eyes and ears of many are closed to the truth, especially when it puts responsibility on them for their decisions. For some, the dogs never stop eating their homework. Even when bailed out (of a bad marriage, economic difficulty, or addiction), they revert to the patterns that got them there in the first place. We've all seen it in our families and in others. The wife of a friend of mine is an alcoholic, and evertime she dries out and swears of the stuff, she's back on it again, blaming and attacking him and wanting to strangle the dog and take an axe to his piano.

Most of the difference between successful and unsucessful people can be traced to the their continual bad decisions, and not to talent lack and circumstance. Personaly responsibility would send trial lawyers to the poor house. We don't seem to teach or require it.

Sigh.

Mr. Elder, i apologize
for the statements made by some members of my race. I am a member of the human race.

I feel for you Larry
With all the ignorami accusing you of selling out and "betraying your race", you earn every dime that you make.

I wonder how much hate mail from these self-righteous folks is sent to filthball rappers that glorify drugs, violence and abusing women?

Keep up the good fight.

Questions
What the heck is a kwame ? Why can't people just be an American without the hyphonI think Pogo said it best about iner-city blacks..."We have met the enemy and he is us."

Mr. Elders, U certainly are an Uncle Tom
Its funny to me that all your supporters happen to be white ppl ( with a sprinkle of sell-outs like yourself.
