Will Congress pass Obamacare by the end of the year?

Eric Holder, the new U.S. attorney general, says we're cowards. He's right, but his reasons are all wrong.

In a recent speech marking Black History Month, Holder said, "Though race-related issues continue to occupy a significant portion of our political discussion, and though there remain many unresolved racial issues in this nation, we, average Americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about things racial."

Holder really should start listening more. We gab about race all the time -- mostly debating supposed controversies ginned up by self-appointed "civil-rights leaders" such as Al Sharpton. I stopped taking Sharpton seriously somewhere between him refusing to apologize for his role in the Tawana Brawley hoax and the deaths at Freddy's Fashion Mart. We'd be better off if everyone followed my lead on that point.

As it happens, Holder's speech came a day after I sat in front of a young black man who liberally peppered a 15-minute phone conversation with the n-word. Five minutes into the young man's phone call, a slightly older black man stopped his own phone conversation, walked over and told the young man, gently and respectfully, that he should cease using foul language. The younger man was chastened, and he changed his tone (for a bit anyway). Pundits and attorney generals can -- and do, and will -- talk endlessly about race; guys on the commute home, the words they use and the moves they make are the game-changers.

At some point, Americans are going to want something other than talk from this administration.

Holder's speech could be forgettable if it weren't such a wasted opportunity. True, courage is needed, but race isn't the elephant in the room that we're refusing to discuss. The issue that makes cowards of us all is this war we're in, and it's a subject that we need to be honest about, for ourselves and for the people fighting in it. Headlines have gone from calling the conflict "Bush's War" to "Obama's War," but altering the title doesn't change the fact that we're all missing the point. Continued...

So let's talk about it Kathryn
Cowardice is standing in line behind a black person being treated like a second-class citizen and not speaking up. Cowardice is using color to advance a political agenda to silence opposition to the political agenda. Cowardice is giving money to banks, agencies, companies and democrat organizations instead of investigating and prosecuting the people who caused the problems we are swimming in. Cowardice is throwing money at problems instead of solving them. Cowardice is saying that only government can solve problems instead of having faith in the individual and little things like Constitutionally guaranteed rights and freedoms. The entire Obama approach is ingenuous and fatally flawed. The direction we are taking under Obama is fatally flawed because it doesn't solve anything except inflate the incomes of select democrats. The newly proposed big-spending bill that Obama is going to use to cut the national debt in half, has 8,600 pork earmarks in it. Famouws last words. Obama said, "I will not sign bills cointaining earmarks." Such is the nature of Obama change. I hope that $13 tax cut he has given 95% of the taxpayers will replace your lost job to Malaysia or China, or your savings account, or your incredibly shrinking 401K, or the shrinking eq1uity in the home YOU have to pay for while paying for other peoples' homes when they continue to fail to pay for their homes, and on and on. Obama is a dangerous fraud, a snake-oil saleman. We aren't having this conversation because no one on TV or radio will address the problem except conservative talk-show hosts. Say what you will about Rush, but at least he is talking about the problem and solutions. You want evidence he is talking about these things, just listen to the thunderous liberal outcry.

Based on statistics (crime, education, etc) I really want to get away from the "black" neighborhoods. I want my children to be where the schools perform better, the people actually take effective measures to improve their community, and they are not forced to think that it's okay to rely on the government to solve all their problems. I can completely understand why people would have a fear of (or general preference to avoid) the black community.

So much can be said about other races, religions, etc, but when you talk about blacks...you better tread lightly. Otherwise, you'll be labeled as hate-mongering, racist, and maybe even likened to Hitler. People are people, and while race does have a factor in determining what types of illnesses your family may be more prone to getting, it should have nothing to do with our ability to work together (and get along) in the land of the free.
